Merged: Andre Johnson asking for a Trade?

56 posts in this topic

I figure Andre is a big enough player to warrant his own thread and not get lost in the Free Agency thread.

According to Ian Rapoport, Andre has told the Texans he wants to play elsewhere and that 4 teams are interested.

Let the rumors spin on that and guess who those four players would be.

It all comes down to money. What I've read about how the money would work - without the Texans eating a big junk - the Browns are the ones with the money to make it happen. That wouldn't exactly satisfy Johnson's desire to go to a contender.

We'll see - but I think he's out of our price range.

Is that where you want him to go too?

I have to be honest, if Ozzie wouldn't have signed Steve Smith, this would be a typical Ozzie move during the Summer to improve the team. But again, it comes to the money that we don't have. Cleveland has the money but as we saw in the Draft, their concern of their receiver need wasn't that important so I don't see why it would change if they didn't even want a young 10+ year receiver.

Possible solution as far as money:

I have a family friend that has been a ref at the teams OTA's and minicamps and was one of the replacement refs during that fiasco.. He was telling me that he was talking with coaches at the castle and the rumor going around was that Jacoby was not impressing everyone and he was actually has been playing borderline lazily..

SO:

I wouldn't be surprised if Jacoby was cut to free up some cap room. Wether or not that would be to assist a trade for Andre, i don't know BUT it could happen.

I love Jacoby but 14.5 million over three years is too much for a KR/PR that catches MAYBE 30 passes a year..

Anyway back to topic, just a possibility to free up space for a potential AJ trade

From a player standpoint it's not hard to see why he wants to leave Houston. I think they've only had 2 winning/playoff seasons in the 11 years Johnson has been there, and he knows that they'll be plenty of teams with a better shot at a SB willing to take him. If we hadn't already signed Steve Smith I'd love to have him.

There's no way the texans can trade him. The dead money they would get hit with is astronomical. He's out of luck.

This is just now becoming news??

Actually they would save money against the cap while the team that takes him on would take care of the base salary but it is a lot of dead money but only for a year.

Keep dreaming.  It would cost us more money to cut Jacoby than it would to keep him.

It would cost an extra $1.625 million this season to cut him.  Won't happen.

The Texans would save $2.68 million this season if they traded him.

Which is nothing to the Texans since the cap went up this year. The cap is expected to go up again next year when they can save $9.1 million if they cut him next year.

coming in at number 6 is the Ravens.

"The natural connection between Johnson and new Ravens coordinator Gary Kubiak makes Baltimore a logical landing spot. The team's passing attack was a snoozefest last season, but the combined powers of Torrey Smith, Steve Smith and Johnson would turn the Ravens into one of the AFC's more dynamic air attacks"

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Andre Johnson has told the Texans "he wants to play for another team."

There's no way we get him, but it would be so amazing if we did.

There is not a chance unless we send them Ngata in return. If that's the case, pull the trigger.

We just drafted a bunch of run stuffing DTs. He may be one of the best in the game in that regard but Andre-Torrey-Steve with a TE combo of Pitta and Daniels would give us the WR corps needed to compete for a title. But we can only do it with Ngata involved. Not to mention a Watt-Nix-Ngata line would be hard to deal with.

Ngata, Marlon Brown, 4th rounder for Andre? We'd lose a lot but it'd give us a two year window for a title

"One of"? Who's gonna beat Flacco to Torrey, Steve Smith, Dennis Pitta and Andre Johnson? Just admit we could be the best at something! We're even the most logical choice for Andre since we have all his old teammates and coaches, but they won't even let us in the top 5 at that.

I think I'd cry if he went to NE. He says he'll restructure his contract but not take a pay cut. I would love the trio or Andre/Steve/Torrey. Andre & Steve would just bring so much to the table.

Don't think it will happen but I'd love to see it.

This article talks about how Johnson going to NE is unlikely because of the Patriots' tight cap situation. However, though Johnson is not willing to take a pay cut with a team that trades for him, he is ready to restructure his contract.

They would get hit with 11 some mil dead money.

It's after June 1st so that early offseason number is no longer accurate.  I'm not entirely sure what that number is now, but it's not $11M for this year.  It'd be split into next season as well.

Even if it's split. What value is there for them to pay 11 mil to NOT have Johnson?

It all depends.  How much is it worth to not have a disgruntled player?  What would they get in return for him?  I don't see the value for the Texans personally, but they could certainly think it's worth it.

Maybe it could be the pats if they are really interested in mallett. Or maybe the redskins as a dark horse with Kirk cousins to offer. Maybe Ozzie can Jedi mind trick them into trading for tyrod

the kitchen sink? The state of Texas? My entire Guitar collection).

Again. Ngata is the only one id consider trading for him cause it'd be a win win. We become instant SB contenders. We get an UNSTOPPABLE WR corps of Andre-Torrey-Steve in the slot along with Pitta and Daniels at TE. If the rumors are true and Ray rice returns to form or Pierce breaks out. We have a loaded offense.

We lose a stud DT, but over the past 3 drafts we've spent 5 picks on Dlinemen. So we have the depth to compensate. They'll never be as good as Ngata but they won't be so bad that they'll falter.

They'd have one of the better front sevens in football.

Ngata-Nix-Watt

Clowney-Mays-Cushing-Whitney M

As compensation we could throw in a Marlon Brown, so that way Hopkins isn't the only one there. But all in all, it would be a win win.

Ngata and Marlon Brown for Andre and a late rounder

It's what I'd do. It's not happening. With my scenario we can't afford it but my gut tells me NE
