Predict the Week One Roster - Merged

Yeah, I wasn't saying that he's a let down to the organization. I'm sure they still have hopes for him. He's definitely a project, though I'm just not sure his upside is that big. What frustrates me about Simon is he has a lot of potential and I really liked him coming out of the draft, but unlike other prospects, he hasn't really shown me improvements from year one to two. That's what bothers me. His pass rush moves still seem limited. I'm going to be focusing on him a lot in the final preseason game.

Yeah I agree with that. I think he may pan out like Kruger did, but with the benefit of not changing positions what seemed like 100 times. Someone suggested MMA training and I'd agree, he's got great athleticism but limited pass rush moves right now. Good thing with our depth at LB though, we can continue to put time into his progression.

So, how did everyone do in the Pick the Team contest?

I missed 3, so not too shabby.  Definitely won't win it though.

Had John Simon, missed Zach Orr

Had AQ Shipley, missed James Hurst

Had Dominique Franks, missed Deonte Thompson

Yeah I won't win either. I had Cox, Franks, Simon and then they keep Aiken, Orr and someone else not sure who at the moment. Maybe Cody

Hurst had an awesome game the other night. He's steadily improved each game. I know he had a poor camp but you could contribute that to starting slow after the injury. I wouldn't be surprised to see him make this football team. I think he's got a good chance to sneak onto the roster.

I do think the team likes Orr, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him make the team.

We also typically have a guy who surprises people and makes the team. Orr could be that guy. If we trade Bynes, he could be the replacement. We are insanely deep at ILB.

When it comes to Shipley, I'm still not convinced he'll stick around.

Finally, as for John "Let Down" Simon, we recently cut bait with a fourth round pick the year after drafting them. His name was Christian Thompson and he had a terrible preseason and camp as well, IIRC. Of course, I believe he was also suspended the year before but that's another story. I just see no value in Simon.

Not to toot my own horn, but...

I abbreviated, of course. The original post was too long to quote.

Juice & Crockett better do what they were drafted for: #1 to BLOCK!

Both of them has been incredibly sloppy blocking players and way too eager to catch passes.

How the Ravens 53 were Built

Certainly this will change in the coming weeks as the Ravens tweak the roster. What is interesting about the current roster -- and telling of how the draft is a series of educated guesses -- is that the Ravens have more undrafted free agents and 7th round picks on offense and defense than they do 1st & 2nd round picks. Only 11 players were not home-grown.

1st Round: Joe Flacco QB, Eugene Monroe T, Terrell Suggs OLB, Haloti Ngata DT, Jimmy Smith CB, Matt Elam S, CJ Mosley ILB

2nd Round: Ray Rice RB, Torrey Smith WR, Kelechi Osemele G, Daryl Smith ILB, Courtney Upshaw OLB, Art Brown ILB, Tim Jernigan DT.

3rd Round: Steve Smith WR, Jacoby Jones WR, Marshall Yanda G, Jeremy Zuttah C, Jah Reid T, Bernard Pierce RB, Crockett Gilmore TE, Ladarius Webb CB, Brandon Williams DT, Terry Brooks S.

4th Round: Dennis Pitta TE, Owen Daniels TE, Gino Gradkowski C, Kyle Juszczyk FB, Chris Canty DE, Elvis Dumervil OLB.

5th Round: Rick Wagner T, Pernell McPhee OLB, Chykie Brown CB, Asa Jackson CB.

6th Round: John Urschel G, Sam Kock P

7th Round: Tyrod Taylor QB, Justin Forsett RB, Mike Campanaroo WR, DeAngelo Tyson DT.

UdFA: Jim Hurst T, Deonte Thompson WR, Marlon Brown WR, Josh Bynes ILB, Albert McClellan ILB, Zack Orr ILB, Jerome Miles S, Anthony Levine S, Will Hill S, Brynden Trawick S, Darian Stewart S, Justin Tucker K, Morgan Cox LS.

Highlighted players are imports.

Nice analysis. Never thought of breaking out down that way but I like it. Really thought out as well. Some of them I feel like they don't matter as we're mostly talking one year rentals. It does show that we augment our roster with veteran depth to act as a temporary stop gap until rookies develop.

We've also been wildly successful in the 5th round and at drafting DL in general. I think that's a combination of great scouting, great coaching, and great veteran leadership.

Interesting how few "imports" we have.  That's impressive to see how much talent that we draft and/or develop.

Who will be on the field for the first snap of the game? Doesn't mean there are necessarily our rock-solid "starters for the year. We know the obvious in QB, OL, Torrey and Pitta. The three others might be interchangeable. For our first snap, I'm gonna guess it's Forsett, Juice and Gilmore, just to be different. Defense has fewer wildcards for snap one, so not as fun to guess.
