Ravens dream duo (all time)

He went 5-2 on the TD-INT ratio as a backup to McNair in 2006, so he was clearly capable.

in addition to that Flacco never gets hurt so Boller would not even be on the field.

I'm not putting Jimmy on McCalister's level yet. Jimmy finally had a somewhat breakout season after being a borderline bust the first 2 years. He had flashes of greatness followed by periods of terribleness. I haven't forgotten the previous year where he was riding the bench and playing special teams. We lost Webb to injury but he couldn't beat out Carey Williams or Correy Graham.  And Chykie Brown was even starting over him in spots, at least till the Super Bowl when he locked down Crabtree.

He wasn't a borderline bust. He was injured for his first two years.

He hadn't beaten out Cary Williams due to a lockout in his rookie season, followed by surgery, which is a way to stunt any rookie cornerbacks growth, a position that usually takes a solid one or two years of starting or extensive time to really master. Jimmy actually as the starter over Graham and Chykie in year two when Webb went down, but again, injuries derailed him and he was shut down until the playoffs. The coaching staff wanted to ease him along, and once Chykie started slipping up, the coaching staff felt they couldn't rest him any longer.

Then, he's finally healthy for an entire year and tears it up for 12, 13 weeks and shuts down some of the best receivers in the game.

Just thought I'd clear up some of the fallacies in your post.

Jamal Lewis w/ Vonta Leach would have been awesome to watch that pair together just batter defenses.

Either him or Lorenzo Neal with jam would have been fun to watch especially in short yardage situations

Sam Gash was our FB with Jamal.  He was just as tough and big as Leach or Neal.  Just didn't do it for as long as Neal.

Reed and Woodson and it's not even close.  Two Hall of Famers both can contend for the position of greatest safety ever.

Ray Rice and Jamal Lewis would have been good, but only one would have been a feature back and it would have been Jamal especially early in his career. They wouldn't have split carries evenly.

bouleware and suggs would have been nice to see.

somewhat breakout? he had a massive breakout season, look at his resume from last year, brandon marshall nearly ripped his own facemask off out of frustration from jimmy, we all know how megatron played against jimmy, aj green was embarrassed by jimmy in 2 seperate games, josh gordon could produce against anyone except for jimmy, andre johnson, just a long list of top flight top tier receivers that were absolutely shut down by jimmy last year. i wouldnt call it "somewhat" of a breakout lol

he wasn't seriously injured his first season. He had some groin problems for about 2 weeks of the season.

He hadn't beaten out Cary Williams no need to add qualifiers.

Lets not pretend there weren't games where he wasn't lit up. Remember San Diego? He had a solid year last season. But lets not have selective memory of his first two years. Don't make me go dig up links to fans, analysts and pundits questioning Jimmy when he was healthy. Some games he was solid others he looked like a fish out of water his first two seasons.  He finally had a consistent season last year. I haven't forgotten when he deactivated his twitter because all the griefs dicks were giving him.

Jimmy had the start over Chykie of course, till the playoffs really. We didn't pick up Correy till later in the season.

He suffered a high ankle sprain on the opening kick off of the first game of the season in addition to having groin issues in the preseason. His rookie season he was eased in for the most part and it was almost a red shirt year with everything that went on. Lock out, preseason injuries, and a regular season injury on his first play ever will hurt his chances to start or contribute big. I remember San Diego. Most of that damage was done in the first half. Still, he allowed 5 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown, but considering most of that came in the first half, I'm not terribly disappointed with his first full time start.

Second season he's struggling with some groin and abdominal issues in preseason. Turns out those abdominal issues carried into the season and he was eventually shut down so he could have surgery. Comes back and shows what he can do in the playoffs (did the both years). Finally is healthy and not hampered by injuries for the first time in his career. Shows his potential.

He did start over Chykie, who has started one career game, and took over for Webb when Webb went down. Also, Corey Graham was an off season pick up to help the special teams (picked up March 23rd), he was just fourth corner on the roster behind Webb, Williams, and Jimmy.

He's still going to get better. You can't call a cornerback a bust after two years, especially given the lockout and injuries to Jimmy. Can't take your arguments seriously when you're making easy errors or leaving out very important details

This may be premature because he still has lots to prove but I  think  Matt Elam  and Ed Reed could be a dangerous duo.

1. hes a cb, the learning curve is tough enough already

2. offseason lockout his rookie year

3. high ankle sprain on the first play of his career(still riddles me why harbs puts our first round rookie on kickoff coverage)

4. injury riddled season even after he recovers from the ankle

5. year 2 also injury riddled

6. still plays solid in the playoffs

7. makes the game saving pass defense in the super bowl

8. confidence goes through the roof, which allows his teachings to finally click

9. plays lights out in year 3 shutting down multiple superstar receivers(those 6'5" guys that every team wants)

10. plays consistently throughout year 3, looks like the player we hoped for when we drafted him

11. somehow ravens fans bring up numbers 1 through 5 to bash the guy as if it is a valid argument.

cb isnt a position that is mastered from the time you first step on the field, it takes an extensive snap count to reach full potential. patrick peterson played full time from the same draft class, without missing as much time as jimmy due to injuries, and if you put return duties aside and talk about pure man coverage cb, jimmy may be the better cb, with a much lower snap count. put his past aside and look at what he has matured into, a top flight, physical, man-press coverage CB.

Boldin and Steve Smith, nasty...

I also think Jimmy Smith/Chris McCalister would be an insanely physical cb duo, would love to have seen them play together in their prime.

Flacco and Heap in his prime. Heap had the potential to be a Gronk if he had a good QB. That would've been fun to watch

I agree. He does have the injury history

To pick ones that haven't really been brought up:
Steve Smith and Mason.

Vinny Testaverde and Todd Heap

Priest Holmes and Ray Rice

Torrey and Qadry.

Joe would love having 2 legit deep threats (Jacoby's been mainly used as a KR)

Michael Jackson and Marlon Brown (our own BMarsh & Alshon, lol)

Ngata & Siragusa (no one would run on us)
