Rolando McClain traded to Dallas Cowboys

120 posts in this topic

Don't forget that Rolando will be heading back to the 4-3 D in Dallas, where he doesn't really fit.

Agreed. So I guess this means he wants to resume his career, but not with us. I find that... interesting.

I think he realized that he'd actually have to try here, and he was probably having second thoughts about coming back, but us drafting Mosley ruined all of his chances of playing here.  In Dallas, he's got a wide open shot at the starting job.

So if he decides he wants to retire again before the season starts, is that 6th round pick protected?

We traded the rights to his contract and the Cowboys officially picked it up, so I'd assume so.

my thinking is that it must be. Or maybe we'd get our 7th round pick back in that case. I can't see agreement happening unless it's one of the two.

What if Oz, using his Alabama connections, told him to do something good for us and act like he's interested in playing again? :P

lol more like great trade for us and AWFUL trade for Dallas. The odds are higher of Lebron playing in China next year than Rolando salvaging his NFL career at this point. We all saw first hand what a mental case this kid is, between the off field issues and mental issues he's proven himself to be one of the least reliable and unstable players you could possibly sign to your team much less trade for.

Absolute desperation move by Dallas to try to compensate for Sean Lee. Rolando at any given time could just decide he's not feeling football right now and he's done, if those are the kinds of players you would invest valuable future draft picks in then your not a very good NFL GM.

The cowboys are giving up a late-round pick and taking on a 700k contract. That is very little risk to take a chance on a player that could potentially help fill a huge hole. They need all the LB's they can get as they are extremely thin there and honestly the chances of that late round pick making an impact for them aren't that much greater than McClain doing so IMO. Also they wouldn't have done the deal if they don't think he'll play. Either way I don't get how this is an "AWFUL" trade with the very little risk it brings.

With this trade, we have...

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

5th (To Tampa Bay for Jeremy Zuttah)

6th (to Cleveland for 7th - Michael Campanaro)

6th (via Dallas for Rolando McClain)

7th (to Cowboys for Rolando McClain)

7th (via Dolphins for Bryant McKinnie)

So trade Gino for 5th to another sucker?

I don't see how any team would want to deal with this guy, let alone trade for him but I'm glad we got something in return. I don't know how Ozzie continues to do it, but to get a 6th for this guy is great. I'll definitely be on the look out for what or who that pick will turn in to.

I'll gladly take it.  We managed to get something out of a guy that clearly wasn't in our plans.  That's always a win.

I'm ecstatic to get a 6th rounder. Shucks wish we could swap a 6th and him for a 5th lol.

I think Ozzie shoulda put a performance clause in. Like if he starts 50% of games, reaches 70 tackles pick escalates to a 5th. ( that way if the kid does actually play we could luck up )

Trading a retired player for a sixth round pick.

Ozzie amazes me yet again.

of course its a win. I'm just amazed at how Ozzie continues to do it. We give up a 7th for a 6th and a guy we neither want nor need. We are almost assured to get a couple Comp picks between Graham, Digg and Art. I'm sure Steward will cancel one of those picks out but we should still get at least 2. So maybe we'll 4th and 5th or 6th. Right now I'm not sure what positions will be deep in next years draft but I'll definitely follow that 6th round pick we just got.

Oher too, so we should get 3.  I'd be happy with 9 total picks.

Dallas Cowboys are run by idiots buff said.

Good riddance. Rolando squandered all my good will toward him after the second retirement. It's kind of a joke at this point

Jerry Jones trading with Ozzie Newsome is like Kwame Brown playing basketball against Lebron James. Bad idea.

To be fair, as much as I like to laugh at Dallas expense, they were desperate for this trade ever since Sean Lee went down, than again Lee has a history with injury, so it shouldn't have come to them as a surprise. I'm just glad, we managed to get rip of all that added drama that comes with McClain. We had enough of that already.

WOW it's crazy how quickly I've forgotten about Oher. I was actually a fan of the guy, but I will not miss his inconsistency.

Yea 9 picks would be great, it'd give us enough flexibility to move around if needed. Of course you can't trade the comps, but we have more then enough tradable picks imo. I love how the Ravens put so much value on the late round picks and I think with the switch to the new offense, we'll start to see some late round offensive players blossom like we typically see with defensive guys.

I wonder if other fan bases get excited about a 6th round pick as much as we do?

I was perusing the Cowboys board out of curiosity, and some absolutely love the move.  They're more than alright with giving up the pick because they feel that 6th round picks typically amount to nothing.  I'm glad we have Ozzie.  I wish he would be a bit more flexible in terms of moving up in the draft sometimes, but Ozzie knows the correct way to build a team.  Moves like this are nothing but positive.  A lot of us questioned why we put him back on the reserve/retire list, and now we know why.  There was no harm in doing so.

Boy are they misguided. Mcclain was out of shape, unimpressive, and non-comittal. And thats a guy who wasnt good to begin with. Good luck to them. Id much prefer a 6th rounder who wanted to play.

Just Google Dallas Cowboys message board. First result. It's a mix of people. Some have some sense and realize that it's stupid to give up something for a guy that might not even want to play. Others are all on board.

I actually just laughed at the fact that in their main Cowboys discussion section, there is a sub section just for Tony Romo. Now that I know the Cowboys have a message board, I think I found my amusement for this season.

The one post I liked was "He just needs the right guys around him". Hm... wait what? So if he can't get motivated to play for a team coming off a Super Bowl victory where he would have had the right players around him, what makes them think he'll be motivated to play for them?

Lmao the cowboys are a joke! How in gods name do you manage to trade a draft pick for a retired player. I'm laughing so hard at this right now.

Talk about being desperate for help at ILB. If McClain doesn't show up they might bring in Mike Singletary. This is really shocking, how can you give up anything for a guy like McClain who tried to return multiple times before quitting on a team again multiple times, saying he's done with the game. Oh well, I'm just happy we're getting something out of nothing really.

Maybe we should trade Derrick Mason to the Cowboys for a 3rd while we're at it.

It was essentially the POTENTIAL of McClain AND a 7th for a 6th. Great move for the Ravens, but swapping picks (what it really amounts to) for the gamble of what could be a good LB at some point in the next 3-4 years isnt all that crazy. Calm down, everyone.

McClain wants to play football if he can just show up and go through the motions doing as little work as possible. Therefore the Cowboys are the perfect fit.
