Didn't want to jinx anything but that was a great win by the Hokies, Foster got to their young QB's head and that was the key

smh UCLA...

My guess(since I don't have the PAC 12 network so I couldn't watch the game) is that UCLA probably overlooked Memphis in anticipation of a certain week 3 match up but at least they got the win. I am curious to see them against Texas.

Also from the UTSA - Arizona game Thursday night I finally saw a GIF for it, HUGE block

I can't tell if Virginia Tech pass rush is really good or Buckeyes OL just plain sucks. Liked how Brewer played, seems smart guy.

Just getting to this I know but I have to say it was neither really. Bud Foster just called a REALLY good game plan. For starters, he matched his corners up 1 on 1 on the outside and stacked the box. The Hokies can do this as they have 2 good CBs and it worked very well as the secondary only let up 2 big plays. Kendall Fuller had a great night as well on the outside. Then Foster used a 3 man front(which is crazy to see as VT is generally a 4-3 team). Then Foster stacked the box and used some very exotic looks to confuse both the QB and the young O-line. As you can tell, it worked very well and this could be a popular strategy now against Ohio State. I would be shocked if Michigan State doesn't do something similar.

One other thing Foster did which was touched upon was he had a very deep safety on 3rd and long who just read the QB, it resulted in 2 big interceptions. Also Brewer looked really poised in the game and has nice toughness. I don't see him becoming a great QB but he does what he has to do and is smart so with our defense, that is all we really need from him. So far I am impressed with what I have seen from the Hokies, hopefully they keep it up.

I may as well pick out my current 4 playoff teams if the season ended today. I will probably go into a couple other teams and how I think on them as well in terms of playoff chances. I don't really have them in any particular order as of now but that might change later in the year as things become clearer.

In right now:

Florida State: I have to roll with the defending champs right now even though they weren't terribly impressive in the opener against OK State. I feel like OK State played them well and I think that in the ACC, they should have it relatively easy in terms of getting to the playoffs if they stay focused. They are on a bye this week but I am going to be curious to see how they perform against Clemson.

Oregon: How can I not have them in after the win against Michigan State? They still have a tough PAC 12 schedule and I think that game against UCLA will prove to be HUGE but right now they have to be in based on that performance. Only real concern with them in these next couple of weeks is falling into a trap game and Wyoming has done well on defense so far.

Texas A&M: This one might get a bit of controversy but the SEC has Alabama, UGA, LSU, A&M, and Auburn who all have a very realistic chance of getting in the playoffs. Until they start knocking each other out, I am probably just going to have to roll with the hot hand here. Right now that is A&M as we saw that that offense wasn't necessarily about Manziel or Evans but maybe a bit of Kevin Sumlin. The defense looks improved as well so it should be wide open in the SEC this year.

Baylor: I could easily pick Oklahoma for this last spot but I am going to go with Baylor here as I haven't seen Oklahoma in action yet and I have seen Baylor who has looked impressive. Baylor hasn't played anyone of note either but it looks like the offense is still going strong and the aggressive defense looks good as well. And that new stadium is just too nice so for now I am going to stick with Baylor.

Out but could be in next week:

Oklahoma: They will play Tennessee tomorrow night which I will pay attention to so they can earn that spot in my rankings if they look good. Also Tennessee is the first semi tough opponent either Oklahoma or Baylor has played so far so it is a big opportunity.

Georgia: They get South Carolina this week in Columbia. If they look good in that game, they can probably leap frog A&M and get some love next week. This should be an entertaining game to watch as well.

Out but they can get in at some point:

UCLA: They play Texas tomorrow which should be a fun forum battle on here, I haven't seen them dominate an opponent yet but they have kept winning. If they look good against Texas, it will go a long way towards getting into that top 4 in anticipation of the Oregon game in a few weeks. Arizona State coming up could be telling as well.

Alabama: They didn't look great against West Virginia and they don't play anyone of note this week but they will have plenty of opportunity to go up in the rankings once they play some conference opponents.

Auburn: They haven't played anyone of real note yet but they will at some point and will also be able to earn their way into the top 4.

LSU: They squeaked by Wisconsin which was big but it wasn't terribly impressive. Either way, they will also play the big SEC teams and get their shot.

Michigan State: This might be a bit of a surprise coming off the loss but they played well against Oregon in a hostile environment and an early loss like that can be forgiven if chaos ensues later on in the year. I think they can run the tables in the BIG which might just give them an edge although it would be close.

Notre Dame: Coming off of a big win against Michigan, I am curious to see them against some of the higher ranked teams and they will have plenty of opportunity to showcase their stuff with some big games on the schedule.

USC: Yes they are coming off of a big win against Stanford but I feel it was more Stanford losing as opposed to USC winning that game. They also have some big depth problems with the penalties. I just don't see them getting through the PAC without at least 1 loss so that is why they are so low but they could get in if they keep winning.

Still plenty of other teams out there who have a good shot of making the playoffs who I didn't talk about but those are the big guys for now so I think that will do for now.

That was a bit of surprise, to put it mildly. East Carolina?

That tells you more about Ohio State than anything else, If I thought VT had a chance of making the playoffs or anything, I would have included them in my breakdown ;) Still should compete in the Coastal division and as long as we get a winning record this year I will be happy but East Carolina has looked good as well. I wouldn't mind us getting Williams whenever he comes out, looks like a future NT in the pros.

Lmao. What a good day

See? UCLA has some fight in them ;) if they can shore up that O-line a bit they could make some big noise if Hundley comes back

It's probably a hyper extension.... And then a bye week is next. So he's got time. Had Hundley stayed in the whole time UCLA would've probably crushed them
