Ravens to sign CBs Dominique Franks and Aaron Ross

I'd still like some vet depth, but this is encouraging...

John Harbaugh says the third CB is expected to be an incumbent Raven-meaning Chykie Brown or Asa Jackson.

I'd bet on Asa. Brown has been very underwhelming

Wow, sorry to hear about that for Ross. On the backside of his career with two super bowl rings already, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires.

Yeah, there's an article on the main page where Harbs said Ross was competing for the 4th or 5th CB. So they must be alright with Chykie and Asa. I would expect to add another CB late in TC after cuts.

That sucks for him but I felt like we wanted to feature Brown more. If he wins the job then I'll have my suspicions confirmed. I like Jackson much more than Brown but I feel we'll try to feature Brown more in order to make him look good to get a decent compensatory pick next off-season. Key word there is try.

Sucks for Ross.

Franks reportedly failed his conditioning test. And I've heard nothing good about Asa so it looks like Chykie's gonna be the 3rd corner. I have nothing against the guy personally but I just don't think he's ready. If it's possible to trade for someone I'd do it immediately. But hey, I'm not a GM.

I agree, I think that was the plan. I honestly have a ton of faith in Chykie Brown. In his limited action he has shown me a ton of promise. He's worked hard, learned our system, stayed healthy and progressed. I feel he could shine this year.

I knew Ross was done. He was never going to survive a season at his age with his injury history.

I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst with Ross' health.

That's why I was also hoping that Drayton still had 1 more year left in him. but guess not.

And apparently while Upshaw passed the test, Franks somehow failed it.

This is not what anyone would have ever expected.

I don't think Upshaw and Franks have the same requirements to pass the conditioning test. I could be wrong though.

You're right, it's timed intervals and CBs have a faster time than LBs

Just heard on the Ravens app TC show they signed FS Will Hill

Just to follow up, you may remember stories about this guy earlier this off-season, he is VERY troubled or perhaps an out of control partier. He's been suspended  times by the NFL included the first 6 games this year for substance abuse.

He's supposedly extremely talented but keeps getting into trouble and, thus, is unreliable.

If this is confirmed, this could be a very underrated signing. He was excellent last year.

The star of the team according to Pro Football Focus was undoubtedly Will Hill, who's +15.7 not only is tops on the team as whole, but ranks second in the entire league for safeties. Opposing quarterbacks only had a 62.0 rating throwing at him as he allowed only 186 yards in coverage. He hit hard and he hit often. He was not a liability in any way shape or form, whether it be covering the deep ball, playing shallow rover, or while in run defense. A true star in the making.

Ugh!

After entering the 2011 NFL Draft, Hill was not selected. Hill was later assigned to the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League (AFL).[5]

On May 14, 2012, Hill was signed by the New York Giants. On October 8, 2012, the NFL suspended Hill for using Adderall. He was able to return to the Giants active roster on November 5, the day after the Giants played the Pittsburgh Steelers.[6] Hill was eventually activated to the active roster.[7] Hill was suspended a second time for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse. His ban ended on September 30.[8]

On December 21, 2013, Hill was arrested in New Jersey on a warrant for outstanding child support payments.[9] Despite the arrest, Hill still played that Sunday against the Detroit Lions. During the game he intercepted a pass thrown by Matthew Stafford in the fourth quarter and scored on a 38 yard touchdown to tie the game and force overtime. In overtime, the Giants would go on to win the game 23-20.

On May 30, 2014, Hill was suspended for the first six games of the 2014 season for violations of the league's substance abuse policy.[10]

On June 2, 2014, Hill was waived by the Giants.[11]

On June 3, 2014, Hill was activated from the other league exempt list by the Rattlers.

Not a very good PR move in my opinion!

Yeah, I know the requirements are different. You're right about that.

I just wouldn't expect a young CB who's been running around the field in OTA's chasing receivers and (I would assume) also working on the ST coverage unit to be out of shape.

So, Will Hill is now a Raven

Really hope this doesn't blow up in our faces...

Franks has apparently failed the test for a 2nd time, as he was not practicing again today.

It's a horrible Pr move. But with all the arrests this offseason, I think we stopped caring about PR and are hoping for a football move. It should be a solid football move as Hill is young and a good FS

Once the season gets going, winning is the best PR anyway.

Amen to that brother. Plus, rookie defensive backs usually don't play so well to begin with. We were actually lucky Elam was decent last year. Will is great in coverage and compliments Elam well. And both will deck you if you throw it near them.

All we are missing is a slot CB.

Oh, and it's a one year deal. If he screws up again, we cut him. It's like a better Rolando McClain signing

It's insurance as well.  He may never end up actually playing for the team, even if he keeps his act clean.  If it comes to week 7 and there's no roster spot for him, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't just sever ties so long as Stewart/Brooks are playing adequately.  There's really no risk other than PR, and really, can that get any lower at this point?

Don't say it! You know what's going to happen now.

Webb can play slot or outside so we're probably just hoping for one of the other guys to be viable at either then Webb can swing wherever.

Because free saftey is one of the more important positions for this team and Hill would be an upgrade adaquate or not?

As for Pr. This. Our team is a bunch of thugs. It doesn't get worse than this..... But who cares at this point?

True, and Brooks is also capable of playing slot CB, and if Hill is as good as they says he is and (barring he stays clean) we can sign him to a long term deal, Brooks might make a permenate move to slot CB? Idk. It might be terrible but it's just a thought.
