Maybe if it was the Notre Dame Fighting Whiteskins you'd be on to something equivalent.

Anti-white/Caucasian sentiment doesn't have the same history and connotation as it does with other ethnicities, but you have a point.

If the Redskins have to change their name then the Chiefs, Braves and all other teams named after Native Americans must be changed for equality for all. Just saying.

Yeah, I think the difference is some of those words are references to specific Native American culture, while one's a slang applied in the 1930s (hardly a golden era for people of First Nation descent, I'm sure we can all agree). Going back to my other example, Chiefs is fine, Brownskins isn't.

You're not wrong, but thats an entirely different discussion.

On the other hand it might be a golden opportunity to start selling NFL apparel without actually having to pay the NFL for the right to do so. Of course, it's risky, but that's how it goes.

-Truth- explained this very eloquently on the first page. Alot of things have gone/went on for a long time, but that does not justify them.

Thank you.

But on the business side it would be smart for Snyder to change the name. I hope he doesn't budge.

problem being it seems Snyder is more of a man of money as opposed to principle.

I've tried to put myself in the affected groups shoes and I still can't get upset about it.I fail to see how the term "redskin" is a slur. When has it ever been used as a slur?It seems like they're praising indian heritage to me.I highly doubt George Preston Marshall had any malicious intent when he created the team.He was probably trying to honor the history of the people who once lived in the area where his team was founded. If the team was named the brownskins and had tough looking mascot like Mr.T or something I honestly wouldn't care.I think the percentage of people who do care only care because the media is telling them to care.

I had a feeling my post would be deleted. That's what I'm talking about. Nothing offensive or against the rules. Ridiculous.

This site does not allow discussion of political and/or social issues as those are too polarizing. We're here to unite fans, not drive a wedge between them. This thread has been borderline from the start and is now finished.
