Ray Rice Suspended 2 Games

Yeah "sources". I could say a lot of things and back it up by saying "I have word from sources" or "A few sources just told me". Doesn't make it anymore true, just because they added they got it from sources. Hasn't there been many tweets an articles from reporters claiming they know or heard something from sources, and it ended up being not true?

To me, an article has no credibility if there isn't anything concrete. and to me, this article has nothing concrete. Unless an article has a direct link or quote from a direct link, I take it with a grain of salt.

Aaron Wilson, LaCanfora, and Schefter are the best reporters in the NFL and routinely cite "sources." Your point is invalid.

The reporter here is from the New York Post. Not as prestigious as the NYT, but guys from big, respected papers like that don't make stuff up. They just don't.

Lemme ask a question. For what reason would a reporter just make something up, with his/her credibility and therefore his/her job on the line?

More clicks? Obvious answer, why anyone in media would do almost anything.

It's been over a month since the guy said "significant... 4-6 games... maybe more" and we haven't gotten anything yet. We'll see if his prognostication is correct.

If you think reporters are in journalism for clicks than you're just kidding yourself. Sorry but that's simply not true. If it was a blogger or columnist you could make the argument, but this is a reporter. Do you know what a reporter is?

It's stuff like this that makes me think the American education system should require a Media Literacy class.

Ok, without the thinly veiled and unwarranted insults: "reporters" have made up things in the past.

It is also pertinent to point out that Bart Hubbuch is a columnist, not necessarily a reporter. Columnists, in particular a certain local columnist, have been known to fabricate in order to get their point across, make a story more interesting, and get clicks.

Anywho...

The reason I think it's taking this long is because the league is also torn on what to do. They want to set a precedent, but does someone with a previously good reputation deserve a lengthy suspension? It's not an easy decision. They might also be have having conversations with Ravens brass to come up with a way to address the situation that benefits both sides.

That's not an excuse to wait until to July to act on an incident that happened in February.

I don't think so either, and I'm not excusing them. Just saying it's a possible explanation.

Also add in how many OTHER players have been suspended during that time period. OT Lane Johnson of the Eagles just got his suspension announced just now. Yet the NFL has yet to rule any suspension or no suspension for Rice.

PED related suspension. Precedent already set. Easier punishment to decide.

Fox News says hello!!!!!! Lol!!!! They have single handedly stupefied the media.

But he does have a point. How could an "inside source" say that the suspension will be significant if the decision hasn't been made yet? That report came out 3 or 4 weeks ago, there is no way Goodell is just sitting on it for that long after the punishment has already been settled.

Well yeah, lol. Fox News is the outlier.

And Idk. The situation is fluid, In the NFL, nothing makes sense, and things change every day. The inside source may have been right at the time, but the league decided to take more time after the fact.

Have you ever read an article online? There are tons of article online with false headings to make you think something, only for it to be completely different. I remember an article on NFL.com where the link stated something to the effect of "green bay won't retire favre's jersey, only to click on it and the actual article say they won't retire his jersey in 2014. It was a perfect am example of reporters skewing things to get clicks.

What should it matter if we don't believe it or not? Some people just like to look at factual evidence or concrete info. Just because we don't trust a so called "source" doesn't mean we need a school course on Media Literacy. Do you believe everything you read?

I read plenty of articles online. It's part of my job.

I don't believe everything I read, but I know that the New York Post is a reputable source of information... When you're dealing with this kinda stuff, you do have to consider the source.

Look, if you want to have a talk about journalism and media theory, inbox me. This thread is about Rice.

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefterFollow

NFL is suspending Ravens RB Ray Rice for the first two games this season, per sources. The suspension is expected to be announced today.

Yeah, just saw it on sportscenter. So much for that "significant 4-6 games" that was talked about so much. Glad we have some closure. It just sucks that it's the Bengals and Squeelers. Losing one or both of those games could be tough as far as the division goes.

I'm very surprised that Rice only got a 2 game suspension.  I was expecting at least 4.

#Mili

He did get things patched up with his "victim", which probably shaved of a day or two. Big Ben got a 6 game suspension for his sexual assault charges, so the 2 game ban seems fair by comparison.

Not only did he get things "patched up", but he married his fiance' as was planned...  AND he met with Gooddell.  That had to have a huge affect on it.

Yes I would agree. And his history of a "good guy" image had to help as well.

There's gonna be alot of pot smokers really furious out there about how short that ban ends up being, when Gordon has to sit out a whole season.

Not to get too off-topic, but the NFL really needs to fix their rules when it comes to drug testing.  If its not performance enhancing, they shouldn't care at all.  Ridiculous how it is right now.

Gordon got busted for marijuana again last night. That's the 100th time this off season. If he was busted once and got a year long suspension I would understand, but eventually it gets to the point where you can't even defend the guy.And this is coming from a pot smoker.
