Ray Rice Suspended 2 Games

Who cares? After the way he played last year and his retirement comments he is lucky to be on the roster

Another great post.

The more and more this drags on without an answer, and considering this is his first offense, I'm thinking he gets no suspension. A fine yes but no suspension what so ever. It won't be popular among other fans but I'm thinking Rice will be playing in week one against the Bengals.

So who gets suspended first? Rice or Greg Hardy?

I have no clue but seeing  what Hardy was found guilty of is quite scary.

Yeah for sure. Be interesting to see how it works out for Rice. If the NFL really wants to make a statement they can bring the banhammer down in a big way with Hardy, which could either help Rice's cause or make the suspension worse. But I agree the similarities don't go far beyond being under the same kind of umbrella.

I think Hardy will get a larger suspension than Rice. For one he was already found guilty in court after the girl pressed charges. Ray and Janay went to talk to Goodell together. She never pressed charges and the only reason such a big deal was made of it is the leaked video footage. In no way does that make what Ray did OK, but to this day we don't actually know what happened.

The NFL probably is looking for a scapegoat, but according to how things have happened, Hardy seems more likely to be that guy who receives a major suspension.

You'd love this, but 2 games is what it'll be.

2 games is what I've stuck with. Anything more wouldn't be consistent with past 1st time offenders but you never know, it would be our luck Goodall picks rice to set a new bar for such offenses

This won't be popular, but the NFL has set a horrible precedent with players being arrested. They put it completely on teams trying to win to punish their players and hand down limited suspensions for REAL offenses. Hell, they should ban players for life should they break the law and consider some sort of compensation to the teams.

So every nfl player to ever be arrested should be banned? I think that would eliminate half the league. I thought people were entitled to atleast one mistake. After all the things that Rays done for the community I'm willing to forgive him for a drunken fight with his wife. (I've heard reports that she hit him and then he hit her twice and she fell onto a railing. Don't quote me on that).

I specifically said only serious offenses.  And an outright ban was only the extreme.  At a minimum teams should not be penalized cap space for cutting a player convicted of a crime.  Coaches jobs are to make their team better and the NFL puts all the pressure on them of deciding what to do with players who commit crimes.

Rice doesn't get a pass.  You don't hit a women.  This guy is an NFL Runningback.  I'm sure whatever she was dishing out was nothing to what he is used to.  Just leave the situation.  She hits you, you walk away, you don't tee off on a women.

Doesn't matter who hit first or hit second. A grown man doesn't strike a women, period. Plus the fact that he knocked her out cold is just unacceptable.

I understand he took responsibility for his actions and 4 games would be ideal punishment.

I've witnessed angry drunks push the wrong buttons on sane people and cause them to flip. Abuse is abuse. Defense is defense. Woman or not. The minute you strike a person, be prepared to get hit back. I would never hit a woman and I don't condone

hitting anyone. However, have been pushed to the brink before, and if I was not in a proper state of mind at the time I could have hurt them.

I entirely agree. Many expect Rice to be the example against domestic violence in the NFL but I see Hardy being a more realistic candidate. What he did was pretty extreme and he hasn't shown the remorse Rice has. Not that remorse is an excuse for leniency but it shows an effort to improve whereas Hardy hasn't shown the same effort.

I expect Hardy to receive at least a six game suspension.

It will either be 2-4 games. I am guessing as hope Ray and his new bride will both get some help. And some counseling. Will leave it at that.

Were you always such an optimist?? Or shall I say dreamer?

Not familiar with suspensions.  If/when RR gets suspended, can he still practice with the team?

He'll be able to until the regular season and then he's barred from the team for however long the suspension is.

So, about that suspension...

Something tells me they decide on Hardy and Aldon Smith before Rice to set the precedent and use that as the bar for Rice.

It would just kind of be nice to know before training camp begins to see if more first team reps should go to Pierce/Forsett/Taliaferro.

And I completely agree, and it makes me mad that the NFL is dragging their feet on this, but I don't think we'll know soon

I really don't think it's that big of a deal to the team.  I'm sure they pretty much know the range of games (likely between 2-6) that Rice is going to be suspended and have planned accordingly.  They've likely already planned TC and PS games with that in mind.

I would expect the announcement soon.  Who knows, maybe even today.
