Ray Rice Suspended 2 Games

886 posts in this topic

He is in great physical shape about 15-20 lighter. About 210...should be fast and jukey again. He will after dust settles likely get 2 games.

I think his suspension should be one game less than whatever they gave to Coach Tomlin for stepping in front of Jacoby..!

Hi guys, Pack fan here. Just curious as to who besides Pierce or Forsette might get the nod at RB. (I need a back for a REALLY deep fantasy league, and I'm desperate)

As for the Roethlisberger comparison, that doesn't hold up. His issues were he said/she said, and he never admitted to anything, and he was never found guilty. Rice is on camera. I think he'll get 6, but I hope it's less because I have him as one of my fantasy backs.

Anyway, can anyone give me a sleeper on the team to steal carries early? Someone took Pierce before I had a chance.

Pierce is the safe pick at RB, but keep an eye on him. He was hurt last year and reportedly still feeling the effects.

Personally, I think it would be wise to take a late flyer on Taliaferro. He's good in pass pro and will see some time for that reason alone. If Pierce struggles at all, Taliaferro will probably get a good bit of work.

But if you want a real good sleeper pick, go get either Andre Williams from NYG or Ka'Deem Cary from CHI. Williams will help you right away. Cary is more a play for next year, but is a great handcuff for Forte

Maybe Rice won't get suspended lol.

There are still 4-6 players in NFL that needs a statement on their suspension.   Last one was handed down 2 weeks ago.   Unfortunately, i don't see that happening.

I heard they said they'd have the decision made before traing camp. Goodell is on a 2 week vacation. Lol.

I know it's hard to tell on the internet but it was a joke. Hence the "lol"

Honestly, the longer it takes, the more nervous I become about its duration.

We just saw guys getting suspended for the entire season for substance abuse. Yes, it was not their first offense - but given the league taking criticism for being light on players getting charged with domestic abuse - I'm just nervous.

This won't be popular, but the NFL has set a horrible precedent with players being arrested.  They put it completely on teams trying to win to punish their players and hand down limited suspensions for REAL offenses.  Hell, they should ban players for life should they break the law and consider some sort of compensation to the teams.

It's insane what these guys get away with.  Obviously there are some dumb offenses but the serious ones should hold more repercussions.

Ray Rice hit his wife.  Really let that sink in.  We may not know the seriousness of the situation or what is true or not, but if Rice really did what he is accused of I don't want him on this team.  Trade him or something.  Yes, it would be a huge loss but if he really punched his wife...that is just horrible.

With our cap situation we'd pretty much have to cut someone else if we wanted to cut Rice, which would be unfair that other player. And obviously for a trade to work you need a trade partner. Who would want Rice right now?

I think part of the reason it's taking so long is because Goodell wants to set a precedent regarding domestic violence. A lot of people have pointed out how drug offenses have been more harshly punished than violent crimes. Goodell won't like that, and will probably make an example of Rice. Which I honestly have no problem with.

Which is exactly why the NFL has done a horrible job of this.  Teams are punished by trying to get rid of a player.  While you may not be able to legally insert a clause in a players contract that voids them of their money, teams should at least be allowed to get back the cap space they would lose.

Would that be so terrible?  Why should teams be forced to keep players who commit crimes and punished for getting rid of them.  It's insane.

No more than 2 games.... If the things were "alleged" to have happened are indeed factual.

Lets see..... Two drunk people. One beat on the other. Then the other got the business. Both go to jail....hmmmm?? ....Methinks if Janay was a man, I'm

not so sure Ray Rice would face a suspension at all.

Rice wife hit him  and he hit her back. Of course she  got the  worse of it  because he's more physically stronger but either way they were both  out of line.I am so totally over this   situation and everybody deserves second chances .The concept that he punched his wife is  not clear but all I know is  she hit him and he hit her back. She disrespected him first and he disrespected her second. Rice is not going anywhere any time soon(no trade is going to happen)  and it's a good thing that him and his wife are  attending counseling.  Obviously when two couples result to violence it  must mean there is a problem and not every child growing up  is blessed with the moral teachings to not hit the opposite sex.

I hope his suspension isn't too long but if it is then so be it.  Hopefully Pierce can stay healthy and hopefully Rice can have a good season.

Actually, he hit his girlfriend who is now his wife. She married him afterwards so that fact should get some consideration. How ever it plays out I would imagine that being home with her during the suspension could add stress and tension to the marriage.

I've pondered the question, whether it would be best to take her away on a nice Caribbean Vacation or remain in town to workout and be ready for the return to football? I like the idea of a far away vacation better than the tension produced by sitting at home and watching games.

Doesn't matter who hit first or hit second. A grown man doesn't strike a women, period. Plus the fact that he knocked her out cold is just unacceptable.

I understand he took responsibility for his actions and 4 games would be ideal punishment.

So him knocking her out/hitting her is some how excusing what she did?  If that's true then that's sad smh. I don't know if it's true but I seen reports that she spit on him   then attacked him. What she did was very disrespectful and same for him. No couple  should have to result to violence  against each other. No woman that claims to love her man  should feel like it's ok  for her to attack her man but I guess some do because we men suppose to stick to this don't hit a woman code. No man should feel like it's ok to hit a woman he loves but anyway like I  said  before but it's a good thing that they  are in  counseling because it should help their relationship/marriage(hopefully).

If he's suspended for four games that's fine by me.Please do not think i'm giving Ray Rice a pass for his actions because I'm not. I'm just seeing the situation for what it was and it was basically two people disrespecting each other due to violence whom claim to be in a relationship. Of course Ray Rice get's the bigger blame for his actions because he's a man and he supposedly knock her out but I'm over it now lol. Im ready to move on from it all and hope their marriage stay strong and blessed

Let's not re-try the case or I might have to whip out one of my favorite Billick quotes lol.

Roger's sitting on this one for sure, I think 2 games is a probable outcome - I had said 4 which would be reduced to 2, at worst - but something in my gut tells me Ray Rice gets off with nothing (maybe a fine) given the outcome of the case.

Yeah this should be about the suspension and nothing more lol.

When I posted this thread, it was reported that the suspension would be coming down "real soon - maybe in a couple of days."  Such liars.

I agree with you Berad...  I think it's minimal.  I think he is waiting to see how everything pans out... and with the marriage and everything, I am not so sure it becomes all that serious...  if at all.

In regards to the length of the suspension, I see no way it's not at least 4 games (not including a possible appeal).  This was a serious hit to the NFL.  With video evidence, I don't see that there's anyway that he gets off of this.  The NFL has apparently seen the video of the actual altercation that the public has never seen.  That's grounds enough to give him a significant suspension.  Add in the fact that it's been widely reported that the NFL wants to use this case to set a precedent, and I think Ray will be on the sidelines for quite awhile.

Who cares? After the way he played last year and his retirement comments he is lucky to be on the roster

That's a lot of sports reporting these days, grasp at a straw and hope it's a good one.

The 'first-time' thing has to have an impact in terms of a suspension. Of course, being such a star could bite him in terms of the negative publicity it caused, it was front page news across some national outlets.

Of course, we're still waiting on some Irsay discipline and, since the higher up the chain you go, the higher the standard is, it should be significant. NFL office needs to get a move on.

Irsay got a 6 game suspension (Oops, just checked "expecting a 6 game suspension)....  That punishment has been handed down already...  that's why I am not so sure.  The NFL Front Office doesn't usually wait  THIS long.  AND he actually DID get his drivers license suspended for one year.

I'm guessing that the punishment gets handed down on Friday.  No clue why.  Just a hunch.
