Deleted Posts Counting towards Overall post Count

5 posts in this topic

If someone makes a post that they later delete, for whatever reason, does that deleted post still count towards that persons' overall post count?

This isn't extremely important, but personally I don't think it should, because that post is no longer active. Can a moderator please help clear this up for me? Thanks.

Couldn't that be a problem, because people could just make a ton of posts and delete them in order to inflate their counts?

The software does what the software does. BUT, nothing is ever actually deleted; it's just "hidden". In all our years, we've only ever had an issue with someone doing that once (it was pretty apparent to us mods). That person's post count was then reset by an Admin.

Some one did that last year so we are discussing that being a 6 month benching, along with resetting the post count. This person also figured out the 'flood control' aka as many posts as one person can make in a row which is in place to help prevent spamming. I just did some checking-- it looks like posts drop off after 2 years yet you still get post count for them. The board automatically archives posts after 2 years to a read only status.
