Next Quarterback to Get a Mega-Deal?

52 posts in this topic

I really wonder how Andrew Luck would do if he was in Wilson's situation. He's just got the best station for a quarterback.

The Seahawks, on average, ran the ball 7 more times than they passed, ranking 2nd in rush attempts per game and 31st in pass attempts. Indy passed the ball around 10 times due to incompetence in the run game.

Luck would dominate with Seattle

Spotrac has Newton, Luck, RGKnee and Wilson becoming UFAs not during the next offseason, but the one after. Unless the extra year isn't exercised for Luck or RGMe, you'd back Cam or RW3 to get the next one.

I don't think we'll see another extension this offseason with the players probably being a bit sketchy after the Kap deal. Next offseason is anyone's guess, but you'd think the Seahawks keep their run of extending their guys going and try to get something done.

Biggest in four years' time, I wouldn't bet against Luck. Especially if his agent's smart enough to mail a bottle of bourbon to Irsay's office.

Could it be that you don't like this Robert guy?

I don't mind him, but I do think he's overrated and won't be a huge presence in the league come a few years. Also seems to have a bit of the Kaepernick effect going - where he comes off as a bit of a diva without really achieving anything.

And of course those names are fun to say. :P

So I'd totally forgotten about this thread. Who foresaw Lolton getting the money?

I could see Alex Smith being the guy honestly, nothing elite but I could see 15+ per year a minimum for him.

I won't pay him that. The Chiefs missed their shot at a good, cheap replacement when they passed on Bridgewater in the draft.

You can always draft Mariota next year. That 2015 QB draft class is actually pretty good. Mariota, Winston, Hundley. I think all 3 of these dudes could be franchise guys, even if I'm skeptic about Winston and think he's kinda overrated (product of his loaded team). The 2016 draft class includes Christian Hackenberg from PennState, who shapes up to be a can't-miss-Andrew-Luck-type. Waiting for a season or two might be better than signing Smith, who never was more than average after all these years.

And Braxton Miller's no slouch.

My point is, there are options. I am buying into the Hackenberg hype actually. If I were responsible for the Chiefs organisation, I would do my best to get my hands on him 2016. The Chiefs are about regress anyway. And Christian is the truth. The problem is, that the way they are and with Reid as HC, the Chiefs will be average. Kinda hard to get the 1st over all pick with this team. And you'll need that for Hackenberg.

In a memo the NFL sent teams today, it informed them that Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, eligible for a new deal after this season, is changing agents, per sources.
Another source said that Wilson is likely to go with his baseball agent, Mark Rodgers. Wilson did speak recently with his former NFL agent Bus Cook, and praised Cook but wanted to keep all his business with one agent, thus the change.
A source close to Wilson said Cook was not fired, but simply the quarterback was making a change.

Looks like someone is getting ready to cash in

Everyone has already mentioned Cam, Russell, and Luck as the obvious, though Cam is giving reason for concern.

I'll throw Tannehill's name in the ring after this year. He's at least proven he's their guy for the future, and franchise QBs get paid, like it or not, Miami.

There is news on this front as well according to this.

Obviously it would be a big contract but considering Dalton is getting paid 4 mil per year more, that isn't too bad of a deal and it looks like there will be incentives. QB has just become such an expensive position now.

Yet another deal to put Joe's contract into perspective.

Exactly.  Romo, Dalton, Kaepernick and Ryan have all received big contracts since Joe.  Tannehill's could max out at over $100M also.  These 5 QBs combined don't reach Joe's playoff win column and none of them have played as consistently elite in the playoffs as Joe has since 2010 (24 TDs and 4 INTs).  At this point, it's safe to safe we got a good deal from Joe.

Agreed, now go forth and convince the masses.

Good luck with that, it'll be a tough ask considering there were people a couple of years ago who thought Tyrod was better value.

Go on the Ravens facebook page and read the comment there.  You'll still find the "We need a new QB" posts and every now and then you'll see the rare, bushy tailed, "start Tyrod, he's the bestest!!!111!" people pop up

It used to be you paid a QB big money if he was really good. Now you draft one and if he's still around 2 years later, he gets a $100 million extension.

Nice job

My guess for the next one is going to be Wilson although it could be Luck as well. Either way, those guys are going to see some cash coming their way soon enough

Seems to me Wilson wants to be a 2 sport athlete and has legit interest in playing Baseball with The Rangers. Not sure if Seattle would go for that as most Front Offices want a guy, especially at the QB position to be 100% committed to playing Football. Luck in my opinion will get a deal before Wilson does.

That just screams negotiation tactic to me more than anything.
