Top 25 Breakout Players: Jimmy Smith.

39 posts in this topic

Jimmy Smith has been playing good ball.  A "breakout" year from him will not get the Raven's into the playoffs.

The Ravens will need 10 additional "breakout" players to contend.

Those humbling defeats to the Broncos and Patriots were not mirages.

Those were straight up beat downs brah!  They still got my head spinning man!  Smh!

Yeah ok i recall MT torching him BUT dropping most of the balls...Like another posting said lets see what AJ Green does to him week one.

he didnt shadow him the whole game, there were also several snaps where he drops the coverage for the safety to pick him up so he can hold down a zone.

i think he got beat on man coverage against megatron maybe once the whole game, and that was the play where ihedigbo popped him in the ribs down the sideline.

he was playing press-man on megatron for a large portion of that game, and in those snaps, he got beaten once or twice. that is impressive for any corner, hell, even if he gave up a TD to him it would still be impressive if thats all he allowed. megatron is a rare type of monster.

Big payday for Jimmy though and he's totally deserved it if he does break out....

PS: I just can't forget his saving TD on the last play of the 49whiners in 2013 SB.....I think that last play literally determined his success far and beyond........If he failed that last play, I don't know we will see Jimmy as today.....

I saw a tweet that he allowed one play in man coverage. The big plays came in zone when Ihedigbo didn't pick up the pass off correctly

yea i knew for a fact he gave up one, but i thought i was being overly generous saying he only gave up one without knowing for sure, guess it wasnt being generous lol.

jimmy had an incredible second half of the season, if he plays a full season like that, he will be the best corner in the league hands down. he is a better press corner than any of those household names, the megatrons and marshalls and jeffreys and AJ greens are helpless against the guy because of his physicality, his reach, and his ability to just shadow guys.

he is a little large and struggles against those quick shifty slot receivers, but thats a job for a different player anyway.

I'm excited to see if Jimmy can live up to his billing in this coming season. He's going to have every opportunity to prove he's one of the best and I'm sure he welcomes the challenge.

I think Asa Jackson is going to surprise a lot of people this year. Nothing solid just a hunch lol

If he beats Chykie for the #3, he will.

Asa has down better during preseason games, but he also messed up and cost himself some playing time in the past. If he pulls off some good interceptions during this coming preseason, I can see the coaches giving him a chance at being the nickleback.
