who will be the biggest sleeper draft pick?

the whole football world knows we took CJ mosley 17th, what they dont realize is the talent we got in the later rounds. who do you see becoming that crucial player that decides the difference between mediocrity and excellence?

im personally going to take terrence brooks. assuming he pans out and is that FS starter, that moves elam to SS, we all know this, and we all know that means elam gets to shine. what i think people dont realize, is exactly how important that would be, i personally see elam being the face of this defense, and establishing our identity, sort of how troy did for pitt, as they are very similar players. brooks would also be the very definition of sleeper, as he isnt likely to rack up big int numbers because of a lack of good hands, but his coverage skills will keep qb's looking away from him, he would allow elam to read and react, blitz, do what he does best, he would make our weaker cb's look better when he gives them that top support on a majority of the snaps since jimmy wont need much help, all the while we have webb and elam causing chaos up close to the line or in the slot, as they are both sneaky, explosive, and very talented against the run and when blitzing.

he may even end up helping us get a nicer comp pick next year, as i think he is going to make our 3rd cb(chykie?) look much better than he really is in a contract year, so he can take a payday elsewhere(ahem cleveland, san diego) and fall off the face of the earth while we walk away with a 5th rounder comp pick. btw i like chykie alot, but thats just how i see his contract year playing out.

the pick has gone largely unnoticed, the player will likely fly under the radar, but if he pans out, he is the missing ingredient that seperates our defense from being middle of the pack, to an elite, cohesive unit for years to come.

It should be interesting to see what happens with Wenning. Taylor's contract is up after this year and Flacco will not start every game forever.

What we do with him primarily depends on how he plays compared to Tyrod.

Crockett Gillmore - Size and Strong Hands. He's in the perfect situation to develop. Pitta and Daniels are our starters, but we're only tied to Daniels for the year. It's the perfect situation for a guy with the upside he has to develop in a TE friendly scheme with Kubiak at the helm.

I've read some great things about Urban. He's got perfect size, like Watt. Has a lot of upside, I think he'll become one of those late round gems in a a few years like Adalius Thomas and Jarret Johnson.

I don't consider Brooks a sleeper pick. That would be between Urschel, Wenning, Taliafero, Gilmore, Urban and Campanaro. For me, it's Gilmore. After watching him play and see his combine I think he could be a Dwayne Allen for us. I see him having an impact on the run game as well. That's got this year though. Overall, I'd say it's Urschel.

I'm putting my hat in with Urschel. But Gillmore's a candidate given the reaction his selection picked up around here.

im gonna say Brent Urban he's gonna be a beast watch.  once he learns how to use his hands better he can be JJ watt. but very poor mans JJ watt right now though.

Watch out for Taliaferro. I don't think he starts but he should carve out a substaintial role.

It was really interesting to hear Eric Decosta talking about Michael Campanaro in an interview a week or so ago. He was saying that Campanaro is similar to a guy that the Ravens were interested in during free agency, and he said Campanaro could be that guy in a few years.

If that's turns out to be the case, Campanaro could become a very productive player for us. Not necessarily flashy or dominant in any way, but just productive. I'm excited to watch him.

I'll always wonder how close we were to Julian Edelmen.

I think Gilmore has the best bet of being the sleeper pick. However, if Campanaro has a ton of potential and a good slot receiver is always useful in a west coast style offense.

In that same quote, I believe DeCosta said that we almost paid $5M a year for a similar player, which we all know is Edelman at this point.  He ultimately signed for $4.25M per year.  I'd imagine he'd be in Baltimore had Steve Smith not been cut and signed here.

he certainly isn't a sleeper among our fanbase, but after the first 2 rounds a lot of the football world just pays no attention to other teams drafts, I don't feel the brooks pick is one of those picks that has the league thinking "we better watch out for that guy".

and yea I wasn't huge on the Gilmore pick at first, but thinking more and more about it, I think he could be a dangerous possession guy, wont be flashy but he seems like the type that's just gonna come in and work hard and produce.

and yes I am all but certain urschel is gonna either replace yanda or zuttah when their time is up with us.

although if I had to go with someone other than brooks because he isn't considered "sleeper" enough, id go with Taliaferro, I think hes gonna turn some heads, probably wont be churning out 1000 yard seasons, but I think hes gonna move some chains and punch in some goal line runs, i see him sort of like a leron mcclain in joes rookie year.

I'm going to go with Campanaro. I think learning under Steve Smith Sr. is going to do a lot for him when he gets his opportunity to start because of the similar size.

Gonna go Taliaferro, I think Rice could be suspended a couple games and Pierce has not overly impressed when asked to be the primary guy, and that is if he is healthy. A bit risky but that is the whole point of a sleeper

During the State of the Ravens conference, Ozzie talked about a type of receiver they had in mind. What's the bet Julian Edelman was the guy he and Harbaugh both named. It sounds like they wanted him in FA and they go after a younger version of him in the draft.

I wonder what they think of our WR1 situation. Aside from having the heart of a lion.

I'd add great body control to that list. Watching some video on him he's made some outstanding catches adjusting on the fly snatching some poorly thrown balls. It may not be this season but I'm very excited on what we'll see in the future from this guy.

If I were a betting man, I would bet that Mellette and Campanaro are going to be IR'ed this year.

Maybe Mellette will be IR'ed, but I could see Campanaro earning that 5th receiver spot behind Torrey, Steve, Marlon, and Jacoby. But if they both end up on IR, I wouldn't surprised.

Im not sure Smith and Campanero compare much. Smith was blazing fast, Campanero is shifty and not really fast. Smith is ox-strong - Camp is strong, but slight. Also, Campanero is quick, but not Welker quick. He is Edelman quick. He's a poor mans Welker.

Way to take something out of context and over analyze something. I just said "size" as in short.... Nothing about copmaring quickness, hands, being strong, etc...

Gilmore. considering he was a reach, but I actually think he'll be a good player

Can we actually call him a reach if he plays well and produces?

Yep. A reach is when you draft a guy way before anyone else would have considered taking him. Doesn't matter how he plays, just matters that you could have gotten him later on.

But sometimes it is good to reach on a guy, if you think he will have a big positive impact.
