Grading the 2011 Draft

44 posts in this topic

So, Bleacher Report draft expert Matt Miller graded the 2011 draft. I wasn't expecting anything higher than a C because he's not that high on Jimmy (after his B.S. cornerback ranking) and only Torrey Smith was another high impact player.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see those grades. He's really come around on Jimmy and admitted in some recent articles that Jimmy played well, just had to be more consistent yearly. I was also surprised to see an A for McPhee, who I'm guessing he thinks will start for Art Jones, and a C for Jah Ried, but I'm guessing that has to do with Ried actually having started games at one point.

Your thoughts?

Not an attack on you, but don't most people claim Miller is a clueless hack? I happened to see that earlier today and was going to post it, but was too lazy. I think that draft turned out alright. Got key pieces on both sides of the ball and helpful role players. I think when we look back, the 12 and 13 drafts could be something like that as well.

As a scout of rookies, I think Miller is one of the best in the media.

I hate when Miller tries to scout the NFL as a whole, but he's one of the best talent evaluators for college players. He's not always right, but he's made some good calls that GM's missed (Allen, Jeffrey). He's also had some misses himself, like JJ Watt not being able to play the 3-4, if I remember correctly

Agreed. That's the only time of year I follow him on twitter haha

Why are you reading bleacherreport?

"Expert" Matt Miller

He's probably one of the best talent evaluators of the draft around. Bleacher Report as a whole may be bad, but there are a few good writers

Can we try to stay on track here and stop acting like everything to come from BR.com is bad? That's not the point of the thread

NFL Draft expert, not NFL expert

He does top 100 ranking and such. He thinks he's an NFL expert.

He may think that, but he's only good when it comes to the draft, which he actually is good at

Can we please save "BR.com" for this site?

I mean, we can, but it's the shortened version of both, so it may just be easier to say BaltimoreRavens.com and BleacherReport.com to avoid confusion at any given point.

Matt Miller is just a dude with a platform. I think he does an OK job, but he's not an expert by any stretch. In fact I don't think such a thing exists. The closest would be former scouts like Jeremiah.

D seems low for Tyrod considering Mallett got a B- and has done equally nothing but be a backup by default.

Doesn't seem fair to rate TT as an 'D'. After all, was Aaron Rodgers a 'D' also when he was riding the pine those years?

I think Jah Reid grade should be a D- not a C. I read that earlier. Also I'd give McPhee B not an A. Because his rookie year set the bar ( at A status) since then injuries and this odd positional change has lead to less production.

yea imo dj and mayock are clearly the top two. You also have cosell as well. Mayock doesn't have his own twitter and on nfln you sometimes get the feeling he won't ever say anything bad about someone. Thats his only flaw

I wish Charlie Casserly would do mock drafts and such. That guy knows football and players better than all these "mock draft experts" put together

Nah, miller is good. he's not the best by a long stretch, but Bleacher report is almost complete trash and he is one of the few bright spots.

2011 was a pretty good draft. Obviously we missed on Reid and Doss, but I think Chykie can contribute a little this year, Torrey and Jimmy are our young superstars, and McPhee is a great rotational guy.

I wish they had tried Doss returning punts earlier because he was phenomenal for a few weeks. Had to learn when to field it better, but he did well

Ross never felt comfortable, come could see it. It may have been pressure, very unfortunate though

you can always tell when Mayock doesn't really like a guy but tries to put a good spin on him

you can, I just wish he could be honest but you can understand why nfln won't let them criticse players
