2014 Injury Thread

You might really enjoy this. It's an informative piece about ACL tears, including how they happen, the latest on medical advances, the AP situation and how they can be reduced in the future.

That's a great article, thank you for posting it. Insane that it's the weakest ligament in the body.

It is all about torque on the knee.

That read made my uncomfortable and self conscious lol.

A lot of medical articles do that to me. I feel like I'll come apart if I get poked the wrong way.

What interested me was how everyone talks about AP being a tank and that ACL tears don't mean much long-term these days because of his precedent, but he also had a lot going right for him. The kind of thing that doesn't usually make the media because it's too complicated.

Also notice how sloppy tackling has got around the league as a whole? I think that is another casualty of the non-contact drills in the CBA. It just seems tackling can't be taught anymore due to the no contact thing and now they don't know how to wrap a guy up properly.

Wrap up form tackling has been a lost art for a long time. Too many players prefer the ram shoulder tackle. Doesn't even matter if the ball carrier is 50 lbs heavier and built like a..... you know what. Non contact drills tho is a waste of time and probally should just be dropped. Should just be a couple days of classroom. Adding some extra time to training camp would be better.

The Sean Lee injury imo is also devastating to the Cowboys let alone himself. As a fan of Penn St I'm sad to see this. So much potential. :(

Not exactly an injury, but wasn't sure it warrants its own thread.

David Quessenberry (OL, Texans) has been diagnosed with lymphoma and is now being placed on the non-football illness list. Keep him in your thoughts.

Best wishes to Quessenberry and I hope for a speedy recovery for him.  There are a lot more important things in life than football.

Sad for Weatherspoon since he was entering a contract year. Blow for Atlanta.

Saints should walk away with that division.  I'm guessing Tampa Bay is number 2.

I agree. I expect Tampa to be in the running for a wildcard.

Such a shame to see a young guy have to end his career before it could even get started. Packers RB Jonathon Franklin has announced a neck injury will force him to retire from the NFL.

Packers RB Johnathan Franklin confirms a neck injury has ended his NFL career - just like that.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey is out "at least 3 months" after undergoing hip surgery.  This puts him out for the first 3 games of the year most likely.  With him out week 1, the Dolphins will have 5 new starters on the offensive line for that game.

Wonder if thats a first. Modern day era.

Let's add to the Dolphins woes here. Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno will have knee surgery this week.

And...Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this week and miss four to five weeks, per ESPN sources.

And they were a complete joke with these guys. Pretty laughable to hear them mentioned as playoff contenders. Top 5 pick again for these cats.

Bills LB Kiko Alonso suffered a knee injury while working out. Early indications are that it may be significant.

First Sean Weatherspoon, then Sean Lee now Alonso. Put Mosley and Daryl Smith in bubble wrap, I don't like this growing trend of Linebackers getting injured.

Update, 9:54PM: Schefter has confirmed it is a torn ACL for Alonso.

Bills LB Kiko Alonso tore his ACL and is expected to miss season, per source. It’s considered a seven- to nine-month recovery. Blow for BUF.

One of our former players, Jameel McClain was carted off of the practice field today with an apparent left foot injury

https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/491655021956972545

Tom Coughlin confirmed the injury but downplayed it as ""around one of the metatarsals ... just a matter of a sore foot."

https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/491664995684712449

Just read that it is not a serious injury, Jameel will be ok

In an update, he is now expected to officially miss 2 months. He is expected to need 4 months to recover from his surgery, extending his rehab into late October, meaning if he misses the entire month of October he won't return to the field into Week 9 against the Chargers.
