Taliaferro Arrested in VA. Update: Charges Dropped

220 posts in this topic

Funny how those kind of things didnt happen that much when Ray Lewis was still with the team.

That says a lot about leadership

The guy who was hanging out with his friends whom stabbed and killed a guy? Every team in this league has idiots. While I do believe we lack leadership without Birk, Reed and Lewis. This isn't the reason why I think so.

If I were Ozzie, I'd cut Taliaferro. Make an example of him. 4 arrests in one offseason is a HUGE deal.

I'd make an example of either Jah Reid or Rice (or even both) if we were to go that route. I don't think we should be too hard on LT

I agree that someone needs to be made an example, but Taliaferro is not the one to cut, as Fly suggested. If you want to make someone an example and really make a point, the team needs to do something with Rice.

I don't want to make this a Rice thread, but I still think that the team should suspend him, whether or not the league does. I've been vocal in my support of Rice, and will always stick to that unless some damnening evidence comes to light, however; 1. regardless of my support for him, he is not without fault 2. The FO needs to drop the hammer and do something about the off field behavior of these guys and 3. a high profile target like Rice would send a powerful message.

Yeah, cutting a third string rookie or career backup sends no message to anyone. Cutting Rice certainly would. However, I'm not advocating to cut anyone for their off season problems

I don't think the Rice situation is nearly as bad as people make it, but I think the Ravens should negotiate with the NFL to suspend Rice themselves. That'd be bigger than just the NFL doing it

yeah exactly...the team handing out the suspension rather than the league makes a very clear statement. Even though I know our FO is not happy, it would still reassure me as a fan that we care about the product we are putting out there on the field

To be honest, I doubt the Ravens would suspend him

Not quite.

Besides, Deonte had weed in his gym bag. Who cares! Jah got a little too drunk. Ray and his fiance both got too drunk. Not a leadership issue whatsoever.

Your brain isn't fully developed til 25 and you cant legally drink til 21 so if he doesn't know his limits at 22 I think he should have a little bit of wigtle room with this argument. As someone else said we are all also human. You're never to old to make a mistake.

Has no one else here experienced the Herculean might of drunk strength?

Not sure where you got that from. In many studies using DTI and MR, the normal brain continues to develop in way of increased myelination (http://www.jneurosci.org/content/31/30/10937.full.pdf+html) and synaptic plasticity way past 25 years. Couple that with the amount of trauma a football player endures, particularly TBIs and often major concussions, who knows how much damage their prefrontal lobes (e.g. logic reasoning, inhibition, self control) have suffered. Plus, a number of studies have shown increased neurogenesis leading to misaligned recovery of fiber tracts in TBI patients that may cause decreased inhibition.

Anyway, the dude got wasted, shouted for a bit, showed his strength, and paid for the taxi windows. We all know Virginia cops are sticklers.

This team really does have issues. But then again, it doesn't shock me. Being educated and unaggressive doesnt mix well in the NFL. John Urcshel must feel like a square peg. Jacoby Jones is a moron, we all know there isnt much going on in that head. Let them end up in jail. Portland Jail Blazers 2002-2004 circa have nothing on us.

Does everyone on the team drink excessively besides Torrey smith?

Nothing really wrong at all happening here.. Just more drama in the nfl circle

How is that drama? They're trying to have fun, c'mon. Going to OC this weekend - hope to see Jacobes and the crew back at Seacrets

Uhh annnnd who are you? Learn some grammar before you call an NFL player a "moron."

All I can say is that I would not want to be this rookie when they get him in the office behind closed doors.

As a mom, I have raised a couple of kids myself, who are now 33 and 30, respectively....  This age group is a tough time for most.  The transition from kid to adult has to be the most difficult for both the kid and the parent.  (kid being the player, parent being the coaches and the team).  These guys are coming of age.  They still want to party, have fun, and aren't quite ready to settle down....  The NFL makes them do that, and it's not necessarily a bad thing.  These "kids" are in a situation where they have this enormous amount of talent, they have been "drafted" into a situation where they must shut it down, adhere to grown up rules, all the while with a crap ton of money that they cannot wait to get their hands on......  Sometimes it just takes a while.  Lorenzo will get it.....  Once he's at the Castle, he'll get it.

Not much happening in the video as I said but I believe getting kicked out of a bar qualifies as useable drama to media

Ha true that

Also hearing that they were just asked to leave. Nothing more than that.. So hopefully this just blows over and doesn't get added to other incidents and overdone like LT story

Books and other resources but some have stated a different age. I t was a common number I've seen but I'll take your word for it.

So, I guess this is the next thing we are all gonna overreact about huh? If you've ever been to Seacrets you'd know how much the security there loves their jobs. First time I'd been there they wouldn't even let me in because I was "too drunk" despite being the most sober one of my friends. Another time they threatened to kick me out for moving from one side of the bar to the other too many times. The GI Joe wannabes there probably saw Jacoby and crew as another feather in their cap. This is so much of a non-story it's ridiculous. Getting a parking ticket is a bigger damnation to one's character than this.

Like I said, he didn't hurt anyone, he didn't cause any lasting damage (he even took account for what he did and paid the damages), he didn't drag the Ravens' or the NFL's name through the mud and it doesn't affect how he plays the game.

I'm sorry, but if you were a GM your team would get pretty empty.

He was also not behind the wheel. That's my biggest take away. People making a big deal of this need to chill.

Not at all man.

However, let's be real, how many of us have ever gotten drunk? I can tell you that my early 20s....well, I don't remember much of it LOL. We have all went over the limit, and more than once (to the rare person who has not, I applaud you!)

He got drunk, but he did so responsibly...when I first saw the headline, my heart sunk. I thought he was in a drunk rage or something. But the big lug needs to learn not to grab freaking glass to maintain his balance when he gets plastered LOL. At least he didn't hurt himself, and he promptly paid restitution for the window he broke.

Point being, prior to all this, prior to getting drunk, it would have been a great idea to stop and think,,

"Hmmmmmm what positive and negative consiquences could possibly come from my getting drunk this evening ?"

Is the reward worth the risk ?  Some times yes some times no.  I would suggest as a rookie just entering the league I would think the reward of getting drunk is clearly not worth the risk of his NFL career.

BTW no body has answered me, has he actually been signed yet ?

That too. I'd rather he broke a taxi window (and paid for it afterward) than drive home. I can't believe people are actually making a big deal of it, like he should remain dry for his career or he should have been training on the Sunday night or something.
