The Flacco's Next Record To Break

516 posts in this topic

The 4,000-yards is almost a given.  He hit 3,900+ last year and that was, as you said, with lackluster O-Line, no running game, a depleted receiving corp - and 22 interceptions.

While the Ravens have yet to be a sub-.500 team during the Harbaugh era, and perhaps I'm being spoiled, last year was a little too close for comfort.  Once the schedule was released, I had us as a 12-4 team - two of those losses within our division.  Even if I'm off by 1 or 2 games and we finish with 10 wins, I'd be happy.

As for the old "10 and you're in" saying - just talk with the 2013 Cardinals, the 2008 Patriots or the 1985 Broncos.  Granted, it has only happened three times - but if our division is as tough as you're saying, we could miss the playoffs altogether or we could wind up like the AFC West last year - or the AFC North several years ago - with three teams in the playoffs.

Joe's TD/INT ratio is just something I'd like to see improved.  Last year was the first time in his career he had more INTs than TDs.  Hoping it's not a trend.  Also, it wouldn't hurt for him to "take that next step" as far as those stats go.  We know he can do it, but... consistency is going to be the key to both of those numbers.

the NFC is a much tougher division and the NFC West has been the best football in the land for the last 2 years. If we win 10 in this division, we get to the playoffs. I think Joe goes for 4,300ish yds, 28-33 TDs, 12-15 INTs, 10-12 wins.

Both West divisions (AFC & NFC) have been the best football.

And I can see those numbers being realistic, but I'm just wanting Flacco to take the next step. ;)

The Rams would have went to the playoffs in any AFC division, even the best (they were much better than the Chargers and probably even better than the Chiefs). AFC doesn't really compare well to the NFC anymore.

The real question is: how well would Flacco do in the NFC West?

The same as he does against the rest of the league good some days bad the others.

That's not always a good answer. The NFC West is without much doubt the best defensive division in the NFL. The worst defense in that division belongs to the Rams, and they are still in the top half of the league at #15.

The AFC North has always been a good division defensively, but the NFC West has us clearly beat now. Our sad group of WRs would hardly stand a chance against the Legion of Boom.

He's inconsistent vs Pitt

A team that has always had a top defense and it goes to the inconsistently that is joe.

So whether or not you like the answer is truly irrelevant its a hypothetical question that aside from pointing out his play vs sf in the Super Bowl and his play the year before on thanksgiving (again one meh game and one good one) using Pitt as a barometer as close to him playing all nfcw games as you'll get and it goes to show what I said is what most likely to happen.

Joe would be the same vs the nfcw as he always is

Flacco has done well enough against the 49ers, Rams, and Cardinals. Ravens beat those three every time they've played them with Flacco as quarterback. However, the only game the Ravens have had against the Seahawks in recent history, the Hawks stomped the Ravens.

Lots of INTs

I doubt it. The Browns, Steelers and Bengals had great defenses for a while now. That means that Joe played top10 defenses atleast 6 times for most of his carreer. In reality, the Ravens schedule tends to be so tough, that Joe actually faces top10 defenses around 10 times in a regular season.

I have to agree with TiZ. What gets Joe is his inconsistency. When he's on fire, he can pick apart Seattle for sure, when he isn't, he's going to struggle against the Raiders. There is nothing in between. Just re-watch the SB and see how Joe made one great play after the other and keep yourself from screaming "WHY CAN'T YOU DO THIS ALL THE TIME!!!" at the TV, I dare you. Being a Flacco fan is so frustrating sometimes :( .

If Kubiak's system fits and Gary can coach consistency into Flacco and the OL atleast goes back to being average, then we should do alright on offense actually (not as well as we could've done, if we would've spend more draft picks on offense, but whatever -_-).

High draft picks =/= success. What difference is a backup rookie or two going to make?

Flacco has actually played his best games against the best teams he's faced. Historically he and the team have fallen prey to the trap games. He has played lights out against steelers defenses which have been top five units.

Also I would say this view of the NFC west being head and shoulders above the rest is coming to an end. I suspect the 49ers are due for a lackluster season with a myriad of injuries and maturity concerns. Seattle has lost done good players from their defensive front. I suspect the NFC south with a saints defense on the rise and olive building a power in Tampa will be the best in the NFC.

I also suspect with both the ravens and steelers reloading will once again be powers and the patriots solidifying themselves along with the broncos. All 4 of those powers are just as good as anything the NFC is throwing up this year. Don't act like the Seahawks are some unstoppable 90s cowboys team. They are far from that.

Weakest link? RT. I agree maybe we should have taken a RT high, but thats about it. No room for a WR high.

In reading trap game I picture the jags game from 2011 we started that season by killing Pitt and we were looking like the team we expect from Baltimore fresh off a win we go to okay jax and it was expected to be easy. Nope worse offensive game I saw in a long time. It was disappointingly bad

For the record, more teams than that have missed the postseason with 10 wins. '03 Dolphins, '05 Chiefs, '07 Browns... Only two have ever missed at 11-5, and one since the current 12-team playoff format ('08 Pats). However, 10 wins is usually good enough.

Just to finish the list, both the Giants AND Bucs missed the playoffs at 10-6 in 2010, and the Bears missed in 2012.  I think that's all of them, at least since '92 and the current playoff format.

If you could just double-check and triple-check... that'd be great. :P

How many wins does Brady have in the 2010s? He probably won't play out the whole decade, so it doesn't matter much. I think Flacco has a good shot at it as long as the last two drafts turn out to be as good as I think they were. It would be nice to have the three rings (or more) by decade's end like Brady and Aikman.

The way Brady is protected, and the way the offensive is built around him, I could see him remaining healthy and in physical condition to play the game into his 40s.  Given his competitive nature, I could see him having that desire to continue playing into his 40s as well.  Barring some freak accident, or him winning 2 out of the next 3 Super Bowls or something, I think he'll play as long as Favre did.

That's a good point. That Pats OL has been consistently good for a long time and the refs protecting "the golden boy" of the NFL doesn't hurt either. Technically Joe could pull the same thing off considering his durablity (like beanfigger pointed out). Getting a franchise LT (Monroe) might have been a good first step. Can't believe we wasted JO's carreer on protecting all these clowns before Joe.

Lol, just imagine Joe playing into his 40s. Some of the Flacco haters around here would lose their minds. :D

well joe was like 8 years old back then so might of been hard to get him in the starting line up.  It would be easier to say, cant believe we drafted the players we did over certain players

First, a disclaimer:

If you are one of the anti-Flacco guys, you may want to cover your ears for this one, it isn't going to be pretty (not for you, anyway :) )

For the rest of us, we are well aware of the many NFL records The Flacco holds, not to mention many other team records. To recap (copy and pasted from baltimorebeatdown):

First rookie quarterback to start all sixteen games and make the playoffs.

First rookie quarterback to win two playoff games

Most starts by a quarterback in first season: 19

Most starts by a quarterback in first two seasons: 37

Most starts by a quarterback in first three seasons: 55

Most starts by a quarterback in first four seasons: 73

Most starts by a quarterback in first five seasons: 93

Most wins by a quarterback in first 80 consecutive starts: 54

Most combined regular and postseason wins in first three years as a quarterback: 36 (tied with Dan Marino)

Only quarterback to start and win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons

Most road playoff wins by a quarterback: 6

Most touchdowns in a postseason: 11 (tied with Joe Montana and Kurt Warner)

Most touchdowns without an interception in a postseason: 11 (tied with Joe Montana)

First quarterback to have a passer rating over 100 in all four games of a single postseason.

Most consecutive playoff games with three passing touchdowns: 3 (tied with Bernie Kosar, Kurt Warner, and Aaron Rodgers)

Note that after only five years Flacco already has more road playoff wins than any other QB in the history of the NFL.

So what's the next record to shatter for our Super Bowl 47 MVP?

How about this one, a little known, but crucial record -- Peyton Manning currently holds the record for the most wins in a decade (115 wins during the 2000s, Tom Brady is second with 97, and Troy Aikman is third at 94)

Now, a pre-emptive note for you guys who are going to whine that it's a team sport, blah blah blah. Can it, because this isn't a debate about your opinion on that matter. Besides, it's not a coincidence that three HOF QBs are on top of that list.

Currently, The Flacco is sitting at 42 wins in the 2010s. He is just a hair under Manning's pace, but above Brady's; at his current clip, Flacco will finish the decade with 105 wins.

What say you, purple brethren? Will The Flacco add another notch to his NFL record belt, or will he fall short?

You might want to cover your ears/eyes.... OP.

Hilarious how almost all of those "records" you listed were TEAM achievements.

Starting games.  So if the offensive line is soooooo bad, and Flacco has nooooo protection.  Then how is he able to stay healthy?  Is he that much more buff than every other QB in the league?  He's tall... so he should have further to fall to the ground, right?

Making playoffs and winning games.... pretty much a team achievement.

And if you still think Flacco was better than Jacoby Jones in the Super Bowl, there's no point in arguing.  Jacoby Jones was the obvious MVP.  Just that QB bias.

But to answer your question as to what record I hope he breaks?  I hope he puts up amazing numbers.  I hope he at least contends for leading the league in passing yards.  And I'd love to see him break the record for fewest intercetpions by a QB in a season.  Has a QB ever gone a whole season without throwing an interception?  I'm not going to look it up, but I sure wouldn't mind if Flacco did that.

As for  you not wasnting us to bring up that it's a team sport.... YOU can "can it."  BEcause you are trying to compare Flacco with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.  Those guys typically DOMINATED inferior teams when they played them(at least in their prime).   Peyton Manning pretty much runs the entire offense.  They have a superior knowledge of the game.  Let me know when you see Flacco disecting a defense instead of just making the first read that his coordinator drew up for him.  Flacco is nowhere near the football-intelligence level of MAnning or BRady.

You think Flacco "doesn't have enough weapons?"  Imagine switching the place of Flacco and either of those QBs...  You put BRady or Manning on the Ravens current roster and they are probably Super Bowl favorites.  You put Flacco on the Patriots or Broncos and they are most likely not even favorites to win their division.

And it's obvious that this is exactly the response you were hoping for by making a post pretty much saying "Flacco starts games and hasn't gotten injured... so he's obiously on Tom Brady and Peyton Manning's level!"
