Calling Manziel A Backup

105 posts in this topic

By all accounts Johnny has been a perfect teammate in practice and at their facilities. No one is saying you can't go have fun in you're free time but this kid, partially due to the media's meddling, has proven he shouldn't necessarily be trusted off the field yet, that's issue #1 for the Browns. Issue #2 is that he has to learn to change his playing style. I do think he has the tools to be successful in the NFL but he has to learn how to play in the NFL first and he isn't at that point yet and probably won't be until next year at the earliest. His schoolyard running will get him killed in the AFC North against 3 of the easily top 10 defenses in the NFL 2 times a year. A part of me wants to see the kid mature quickly and be a guy who can legitimately help the Browns but the bigger part of me still enjoys seeing the "Factory of Sadness" and hopes that continues for them, haha.

Apparently the Browns told Johnny to tone it down and stop being so immature with social media, and later at an event he said he wasn't changing who he was.

Let's see how long this lasts

I'd be looking forward to him getting pulverised in week one, but assuming he starts it'll be against the Steelers.

I don't see him starting until he can reign himself in

We can make this work - he gets pulverized and then Hoyer comes in and wins the game lol

Are there any innocent reasons to roll up a bill in a bathroom?

Something to pass the time while you go to the bathroom

Could easily be an OCD thing...

Growing up lots of classmates would play around with a dollar bill or so out of boredom and roll it..

There's really no reason to jump to conclusions I'm sure with the attention he has there's going to be lots more

Speculation going on as we go through the season

I highly, highly doubt it has a single thing to do with OCD. More like inflated ego.

Even then there's nothing wrong with him simply rolling it.

All you can do is only he is doing something wrong

He definitely has that, but I'm not sure that's directly tied to the drug use. If the league wasn't going to milk him for all the marketing money it can make off of him, he'd be getting a visit from the 'random' drug tester.

Just another example this kid still has the mentality of a junior high school kid. Who is going to follow him?

He makes newtons maturity level look like Peyton manning.

I had to find a place to vent...... But I'm am soooooo damn tired of hearing and seeing Johnny Foosball all over ESPN, he is a flagrant piece of work. Not an once of humbleness lives in his little framed body. I hope someone smashes him this season and takes him out. I'd imagine he's lighting up the bullseye on his back with his attitude and ignorant $ gestures. Poor example for kids..... What a clown!

He probably was a small ugly pimpled faced kid that got no love in school, and now it's all going to his head!

There are now reports saying Hoyer will indeed start week one against the Steelers. Though Mike Pettine said he doesn't intend to name a starter until before the third preseason game, it does look like Manziel will indeed be a backup. To at least start the season.

Hoyer deserves his chance, Johnny Football or no. Besides, on a more personal level, I believe the Browns have a better shot to beat the Steelers with Hoyer.

Its odd how I am sorta excited to see this cocky, immature kid crash and burn. Its almost destined to happen.

Apparently the Browns have grown increasingly alarmed with his off the field antics and have seen a regression from him

Honestly, Hoyer or Johnny I was still going to pick the Browns as my week one upset against the Steelers.

It's a good thing the Browns are realizing his antics and aren't just giving him the job because of who he is and the media drools all over him. With Manziel's antics, I can see the Browns giving Hoyer an extension to see if that makes Johnny concentrate more on football.

Yup, read that as well. Hilarious, cause the ENTIRE football world knew this about this kid 12 months ago...EXCEPT the Browns FO. Brilliant Browns, brilliant!

I think they knew about this, but thought they could fix him. That wasn't going to happen

Think they are trying to send a message to Johnny by praising the hell out of Hoyer?

The Brian Hoyer lovefest continued. GM Ray Farmer called him "phenomenal"..."a man's man"...and described him as "a pro" at least 3 times

Jimmy Haslam on Brian Hoyer: "We all want him to do well. He’s a quality guy and a class act, so we all want Brian to play well."

I am going way out on a limb here but I think "Johnny Football " is out of the NFL in five years or less.

Maybe they're trying to drum up trade interest in Hoyer?

Worked for Matt Flynn and Charlie Whitehurst why not Hoyer?

Or Cleveland just sucks as a franchise

Not odd. I think you are in the majority.

Naw!  Not me!  I love Johnny's confidence and spunk!  The NFL is already filled with bland and watered-down personalities.  I love those cats that have a healthy attitude about themselves and their gameplay!  Trash-talk!  I don't care...especially if you can back it up!  This is a competitive sport!  But, I must say; I can't wait for Suggs and Dumervil to tune him up a few times!  Lol!
