Ravens UDFA's 2014

Jabari Greer(just listing options)

I'd definitely take Jabari has a 3th CB. He is a little old, but if we feel Asa/Chykie can't do it, bring him in.  The guy we just signed out of Oregen looks pretty solid (though he is a bit short).

Asante Samuel or Terrell thomas(medical?)

The Ravens usually like for their third cornerback to be able to play on special teams. Should be interesting to see how these udfa cornerbacks fair.

Watch for Jackson/Chykie to play #3 CB this year, but we do need more depth for injuries/rest breaks.

I don't think ST is going to play a huge bearing on our 3rd CB.  We have plenty of guys that can play ST if need be.  I'm sure we'll look for a guy that is able to play some ST, but it's not a deal breaker.

It can vary.  Most get 3 year deals but that's more of just a placeholder more than anything.  Bonuses typically don't exceed $12,500, so that's all the dead money there is.  If they actually make the team, I believe the contract essentially voids since they have a year of service time and thus, require the higher salary mandated by the league.

Really?

Three year deals hunh?

I am surprised.  I mean we start TC with what ?  90 some players and then cut that down to 53, many of those cut had three year deals ?

I am not doubting you it just surprised me.

I mean this guy comes on the roster and he really doesnt have a shot but they are giving him a chance any way. He gets a three year.

So they cut him after TC all he gets is what he got in TC ? ( unless there is an "injury settlement " which I am familiar with )

With Forsett, we may be set at RB.

You really think so? Better to bring in more competition and have them battle it out for 3rd or 4th RB position.

True, but remember, its a fight for #4 RB. I think experience wins.

The current CBA really restricts on field time. It's like all these football players are 20 hr a week part-time workers; very difficult for coaches to evaluate them against other nfl quality talent. The cba doesn't help the hopefuls but protects the vets.

It's really no risk.  It's just extra team control if you do find a guy that you like to where you don't have to renew contracts every single year.

However, usually 1 of 2 things happens:

1.  The player gets cut.  The team accounts for the very little amount of bonus money and the 3 year deal doesn't even matter.

2.  If the player does make the team, the Ravens would own their rights for 3 years pending they weren't cut, re-signed at some point over that 3 years.

The Vets were the players at the CBA negotiations, of course it like that lol.

They took West, Crowell, and Desir right before us.

We could also pick Johnny as a backup QB if they didn't steal him, too.

Why not? tyrod could use some competition.

By a 3 year deal, I'm pretty sure you meant a 3 month deal. These UDFAs make next to nothing until they actually make the team.

Nope, 3 years.

Sorry, but that makes no sense to give 37 guys that won't make the team a long-term contract.

Very little guaranteed.  The bonus money they get is usually no more than $12,500.00.  Cut them under a 1 day contract, a 1 year contract, or a 10 year contact, it'll all be the same cap hit.
