Ravens UDFA's 2014

Does anybody know anything about Avery Patterson that we signed from Oregon? He seem to have some impressive numbers and came from a decent school. Any other info on him? Looks like he could be a steal.

So from the original list that we've compiled...

Guys we signed but didn't know about:

DT Levi Brown, CB Tramain Jacobs, CB Deji Olatoye, CB Avery Patterson

Guys we didn't sign that we thought we did (who may be tryouts):

LB Terrance Bullitt, TE Jake Sinkovec, C Ryan Jones (who failed his physical)

Guys that are definitely tryout basis only for now:

DB Dustin Wharton, WR Jerry Rice Jr., DE DJ Roberts, DE Jeremiah Taylor

Cool. Glad we have 3 more CBs.

CB Avery Patterson ... I know nothing about this kid other than what I read on the front page. But his production at a big school like Oregon certainly speaks for itself. At a position of need, he maybe has some potential.

Avery Patterson will be the one I keep my eye on. I didn't watch too many games, but he showed some soft hands on the interceptions I saw and was good with reading the quarterbacks eyes in zone coverage. He's listed as a free safety, but he covered man to man quite a bit. He'll need to improve his quickness when changing direction, but he looked like he could be good depth while he learns.

Looks to be pretty well relegated to the slot, but that's not a big deal.  I prefer size to slide Webb into the slot, but Webb is more than capable of handling the outside as well.

I like Patterson a lot.  Quality player and he was a leader on that Oregon defense.

The size is the one thing that worries me about him. Will that 5'8" size hold him back? He was really solid with tackling, working through traffic, aggressive making plays in the run game and against screens. Could get better with coverage, he's could be a good developmental player.

Realistically he's probably not much more than a nickel CB in the NFL, but that has value.  Tiny little Nickell Robey in Buffalo has proven that.  Still, Patterson is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

I'll take a nickel corner. They play probably close to 50% of the snaps, and if he were able to contribute that as an UDFA, I'd take it. I think him and Seamster make the team. Oregon has produced some solid defensive backs.

Anyone know if we still got Jeremiah Taylor still? Yesterday we had him, now I don't see his name on this list. Check his highlights... He's pretty good! And we could use more pass rushers

Probably just in on a tryout basis.  A lot of reported signings end up being tryouts only.

So here is why we don't have Terrance Bullitt...

He started as a CB and converted to FS his sophomore year. His size/physicality is a little bit of a question mark but has pretty good ball skills.

Some of these guys we saw via Wilson's tweeter and are not signed as UDFAs might still be in on workout invitations.

I have a question.
The front page on BR.com says we signed 17 UDFA's.

Generally what do those contracts look like.

I mean I am sure its the usual legal document 8.5 X 14 but how are they structured.

One year rookie minimum ?  Six months?  Any incentives to speak of ?

It can vary.  Most get 3 year deals but that's more of just a placeholder more than anything.  Bonuses typically don't exceed $12,500, so that's all the dead money there is.  If they actually make the team, I believe the contract essentially voids since they have a year of service time and thus, require the higher salary mandated by the league.

Never understood this, how can a guy that's injured, like Lewis moore for example, or hurst with a recently broke leg pass medicals, yet this guy with a bad shoulder?

I'm sure it's a matter of a long term thing or not.  It could be that they think Bullitt's problem will be a long term issue, not just something that needs to heal.  Alternatively, guys like KLM and Marlon Brown were signed with the understanding that they'd start on the PUP.  It could be that they just didn't like how something looked with Bullitt, despite him claiming to be 100% healthy.

It's shame that injuries can ruin a chance at someone's lifelong dream. I wish Bullitt the best of luck

I have faith but four CBs in today's NFL is ridiculous.
