Ravens UDFA's 2014

634 posts in this topic

I love how many UDFA's chose the Seahawks or 49ers. Do they realize those are the 2 hardest rosters to make in the NFL? Did someone explain to these kids that their goal is to just make an NFL roster? Playing front runner isn't how you do that for the vast majority of them. Even if they play well in camp the odds are they won't make the 53 man roster and will get picked up on waivers by a team they have no control over.

Some of these kids just don't get it, they see an offer from the Seahawks and go "yeah SB Champions here I come" when there is basically no shot at cracking their 53.

Have you seen the Seahawks little brochure they sent to UDFAs? I'd lean there. They give their UDFAs the most overall playing time in the preseason, which can help them make an impression on other teams if not the Seahawks.

How can they offer the most playing time in pre-season when they have no control over how much other teams play their UDFA's? lol. Sounds like a good sales pitch though, I would personally rather go to a team that desperately needs a player at my position and that I would want to play for. One of these kids is thinking they're going to shine in Seattle and make that crowded roster when in reality they will play good enough to get picked up by the Jaguars off waivers and regret not choosing a team they want to play for and who's roster they could've realistically made to begin with.

Statistics show that they do lol. I'm not going to verify any of the numbers they provided, but their brochure sales pitch was very convincing. They had tons of other stats in there as well.

Yeah that makes a lot more sense if it's based on stats from previous years. I though they were just using that as a sales pitch to see who bites. Definitely a good marketing strategy on their part to use those stats to draw interest.

I'd like to see the brochure.

I'm on mobile but I know the PDF is floating around the Twitter world. I'm sure a google search would bring it up too.

What UDFAs are you referring to when you say they choose the Seahawks and Niners over us or other teams? Just curious because I only saw Bailey, Jeffcoat and Skov as notable names on those rosters, and Bailey isn't that impressive to me, Jeffcoat has potential, and Skov is just okay IMO.

Sometimes it's better for them to go to a team with a better coaching staff than one they are more likely to make, which are often times the ones with worse coaches. It's a hard decision to make, but it can benefit them a lot in the long run when they get other tryouts. Yes, It can be hard for some to get tryouts, but they will be better players. For some its the right choice.

Interesting, in that brochure they brag that they have released the second most amount of draft picks since 2010.  We are tied for least. Up until last year we had none released the year they were drafted since 2010.

Seems like the character issues may be too big.

Vontaza Burfict was a UDFA who had character issues. It's never too big. It only becomes too big when it's time to pay them after their rookie contracts!

Not saying I disagree, but we don't take chances on those types of guys too often.  I imagine the same holds true in Purifoy's case.

We've sighed one solitary CB after the draft? It beats me. I understand that there are 31 other teams recruiting, but is it such a hard sell to land a CB to such a CB needy team such as ours? I wouldn't think so. Why then are we losing recruits to other less needy teams??

The main problem with him was his attitude and work ethic. I don't think he had any major legal problem. The Florida CB has major legal problems. He's a police informant now for crying out loud after striking a deal to avoid jail.

I guess we don't have much interesting in the top undrafted cornerbacks or maybe we did show interest but they decided to pick another team over ours.
