[News] Eisenberg: League Drafts Offense, Ravens Draft Defense

312 posts in this topic

I got a feeling Eric Watson and Ed Reed may be heading to Baltimore after this draft. I'm not saying the draft wasn't good, because it was, but we still have holes that should be filled with veteran depth.

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said the team could acquire another offensive lineman through free agency, or could pick up a player another team cuts

can you help me understand why we're ignoring right tackle? right tackle is kind of important.

and in a year or 2 when Smith is retired and Daniels is gone, we will once again, need more pass catchers. And that's assuming nothing happens to them this season.

I honestly don't know... but my guess would be that the Ravens FO likes what we have currently (with Wagner and/or possibly Osemele or a FA) more than what they liked in the 2nd round and later of the draft, which is completely reasonable. I think if we win the coin toss with Dallas, we are having a completely different discussion, as I have no doubt the Ravens sprint to the podium to draft Zack Martin, but there's really not much we can do about that.

What I would be extremly disappointed in the Ravens FO is if they drafted a RT in the 2nd or 3rd round that they didn't feel like was a good player. That would be foolish on any teams part.

I'm far less confused about us not drafting a RT and far more confused about us not really getting a pass catcher until the late rounds, but all that really tells me is that the FO has much more faith in Brown and Mellette than I do and more than I thought they did.

Overall, if I had to do the draft over again, I certainly would have done it differently, but then again, I'm a fan and I'm not paid to construct a team and have not been successful at doing so. I would have taken Clinton-Dix in the first round, and beyond that, I might have done things a little differently. But as I said before... I'm not in the business of evaluating talent.

I'm sure five years from now, if Clinton-Dix and Pryor turn out to be nothing more than mediocre or worse players, and Mosley turns into a quality starter, no Ravens fan will come in and admit that they are wrong.

Will we miss on some studs taken in the mid-to-late rounds? Of course, because every team does every single season. But thats not the point.

Since when have we ever drafted need first? Its always been best player available i mean its not like an automatic stater at RT was available when we were picking anyway so essentially we would be drafting Ricky Wagner over again. My point is a team is never going to get every hole filled in the draft. What exactly is your point?

His point is that the FO should have taken his call and drafted who he wanted, and they should have taken Joey Flac's call and rmjackets call and then we would have all of the best offensive weapons that were available!!

The bottom line is the FO had these defensive players ranked higher than the available offensive players.  Not quite sure why people feel the need to whine and cry about the FO's decision's because these people are all smarter than us, that's why it's their job and we are the fans.

I liked this draft a lot and they picked the player first that I hoped would fall to them. I'm very happy that pitt and dallas whiffed on mosely and we got him. as for the wide receivers. I personally thought there were a lot of overrated players that we rightly passed on, ( big or fast is not always better); and on the O-line there were a few stiffs I prayed that we did not pick just because they had some hype. as for stocking up on d-linemen well we already have 8/9 receivers in camp now so d-line is not the most number in one position. it's not like any of the 2nd level draft receivers we had available to us were going to start over smith, smith, jones, or brown anyway. and 3 years from now no one here will even remember the other safties in the draft besides brooks. I think we got three sure contributors in our first 3 picks; can't ask for more than that.

Even after reading this Asked Friday night about not getting a lineman with a high pick, Ravens Assistant GM Eric DeCosta said, “We feel like we got some good ones last year,” referring to tackle Rick Wagnericon-article-link.gif and center Ryan Jensenicon-article-link.gif. That sounds like they’re standing pat, and my best guess is they’ll look to add a veteran free agent down the line, someone like Eric Winston.  B you can still say you "honestly don't know."

I know, I know - it's because the FO believes they drafted this player last year in Wagner or Jensen!!! How do I know this, cause I read the article!!
