[News] Round 2: Ravens Draft DT Timmy Jernigan

Browns did us dirty man . Kadeem carey might be our last hope at RB but still this one stings , terrance was perfect for us. One thing I know is with ngata brandon Williams and Jernigan plus Mosley upshaw and dayrl , these run stopping beasts won't let terrance produce to much against us , that's for sure .

Crockett Gilmore? I guess he gets points for the name, but haven't heard a thing about him.. anyone know anything about this guy? Hearing he's a solid tight end who can block and catch, small school guy

Except we won't be able to stop the deep ball - cuz you know, we still don't have a FS.

And we won't be able to stop anything coming at Flacco from his right side cuz you know, we still don't have a competent RT.

And we might not have any running game, again, if Rice is suspended for a few games - cuz you know, we dont' have anything behind Pierce who is not an every down back nor a receiving back.

Picking up Brooks should help at FS, again the draft isn't the be all end all, many cuts to come yet and you can be Oz will find a bargain or two that will come in and compete. I have faith in Brooks, loved him from the beginning and will help in the back end.

While I agree we are unsettled at RT, you cannot rule out Rick Wagner who showed promise in his limited action and needs to be given his fair shot. I have gotten the feeling all along that the FO was high on Wagner, and I think the selections today proved that. Either that, or the FO is comfortable picking up Eric Winston as a stop gap or maybe a future cut.

Where I cannot argue is your statement at RB, with RR almost certainly to get suspended for minimum one game, and Pierce is not an every down back, however I do believe he is much better than what we saw last year. He can carry the load on first and second down competently, but we definitely are lacking an every down back or receiving back. Hoping they have a plan there, or we have a big whole to fill.

lol the standard "i really dont have a good point here so im jsut gonna tell you to root for [insert random weak team here]" reponse.

that never gets old.

I'm not determining anything...if observable reality bothers you so much, stick to fantasy football.

In the real world, teams (including ours) dont switch their whole defensive line out every other minute.

this whole "we keep a rotation" excuse is just a way for half of you to feel comfortable about the fact that we have superfluous linemen wasting roster space while our Receiver "rotation" doesnt exist, and our O line isnt even complete. You dont need that many linemen for a rotation...thats why we cut Spears last season and still couldnt find room on the field for some of the other backups.

There are so many holes in your comment but I will just hit on one.

"Receiver "rotation" doesn't exist"

Seriously? Mellette, Brown, Smith Sr, Smith, Jones. Then add in Sheppard, Thompson, Williams and Aiken. These last four may be just here and there but honestly they still require a man to cover them when they are on the field. Mix in your TEs with Pitta and Owens, also the hybrid of Kyle Juszczyk. All that isn't mentioning our other RBs who can catch. Yes, someone young and with good size and power for over the middle would be a good fit but we are nowhere near nonexistant in our receiver rotaion. Matter of fact it has been said by many we may have the best receiver corp the Ravens have ever had.

Also the addition of TE Gillmore adds to this also. He seems like a guy that could get bigger in a pro team fittness program. Hopefully they get him in with the trainers quick and work on his lower body development and a lot of things will then fall into place with him. Luckily he has two very skilled TEs in front of him to learn from and an OC that loves TEs.

Except they passed on Sammy Watkins and now Josh Gordon is gone for the year.....

yeah, so Cleveland isn't having a perfect draft, but we needed to get the S instead of the DT, in round 2, and then our first 3rd round pick should have been West, before Cleve. got to pick him.  Then we could get the DT at 3rd round 35th pick or later.  I think that was a mistake.  Of course, if you value a DT over a RB, then you'd disagree with me.  We've had 4 picks and no WR's or RB's, go figure.

Saw him a little on local television here in Colorado. He's big all around. Ideal size for a tight end but I didn't really see him enough due to slim pickings on offense. Small sample, but I think he'll be okay. Blocking first and then mold him into a match up nightmare.

Don't know why they drafted so many people with medical issues? Mosley, Brooks, and Gilmore all seem injury prone and Jernigan flunked a drug test and is flabby. A few hits in the AFC North and they will all be playing wheelchair football.

@Adamame Sounds good. Sounds like he needs time to develop, especially with route running and catching, but hearing he is a very sound blocker which is what we really need at TE. As @Ravens07 said, this pick has Kubiak written all over it. Finally the FO gave Kubiak and Pariani a new toy to develop.

Sounds like another situation where Ozzie and them couldn't turn down such talent when it falls in our lap. We will benefit from Jernigan for sure. People should remember that the draft isn't the only place to pick up new players. Ozzie has a pretty good track record at picking up players after the draft.

Very excited about this pick! Jernigan is an absolute steal, I did want us to get Moses or possibly Latimer but how can you pass on a relentless interior pass rusher to pair with Ngata and Williams. Two great defensive picks to help add some teeth to our defense. Moving Forward we have a great rotating front 7, thats the greatest help to any secondary. But I think ours is still really good with Webb, Smith, Elam, Brooks, and possibly Brown as the nickel. Manziel may the AFC North have mercy on you, it's going to be a tough transition for you

Oz is plugging up the middle. Added the right chemistry to the back end. Got his blocker/receiver. What else can u ask for? Fantastic!! The rest of the draft is gravy.

LOL at people giving up on Wagner already.

I don't think anyone is giving up on him, it is just that he has no competition to compete with and he is really an unknown factor. Seriously, Jah Reid is his only competition - That is what we are all worried about. We have zero depth. And if one of our Tackles get hurt, we could move K.O. over but then Jensen is the next unknown factor, and you got it -  A.Q. Shipley is the backup. If you don't have a little concern about our line after last season, you must be one optimistic fan. I think we just wanted a decent draftee to give some competition and depth and we picked no one so far, and this late in the draft all the good o-lineman have already been scooped up.

Strengthening the defensive middle has always boded well for us!

We had the 12th best defense in the league with a patchwork collection of available players!

We had a top 5 defense that enabled our offense that operated in fits and starts to still make the playoffs each of 6 out of 7 years!

Imagine what this younger defense that's being designed and created to compete in the AFC-North will accomplish!
