[News] Round 2: Ravens Draft DT Timmy Jernigan

267 posts in this topic

This team believes in best player available and they did a great job here when Jernigan was projected 1st round. It isn't about one year it is about several years. It isn't about winning one year it is about several. With this pick it makes it easier on everyone on the defense because there will be a fresh rotation and Ngata is getting way up there in age. Teams that pick players they need this season are the ones that never win championships. This is how Baltimore got to the play offs 5 years in a row and that is how they are going to do it again. 3 AFC championships 1 Superbowl since 2008. Go Ravens.

When the team has as much depth on the defensive line as the Ravens do you should take that into consideration all I'm saying.

Not crazy about this pick. I wanted WR (Latimer) or OT. Latimer is now a Bronco. I guess Cody's days are numbered. We have desperate NEEDS at OT and S and RB and WR. This better work out because the only 2nd rounders that made it was Ray Rice and Torrey Smith.

Welcome to the Ravens defense aka the good neighborhood. Unlike the Ravens offense also known as the Ravens ghetto.

We just drafted two All-Americans. Both these guys won National Championships and were key factors on their respected teams. RAVENS FOOTBALL is DEFENSE. Always was, always will be. BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE is our drafting strategy, and that won't change. I love our first two picks, and I seem to be in the minority.

This pick is a complete head scratcher. Even analyst don't like the pick. Other areas of need like RT, Wr, TE. They pass on Wrs for a guy that won't start ahead of guys on the team. Owen Daniel 30 yrs old, Smith 35 years old, Jones not a good receiver. Can't believe the guys they passed on. Now all the quality Wr are gone followed by RBs before they pick again. SMH

I would have thought after the offseason we had we would stray away from questionable picks and we grabbed a guy who failed the drug test at the combine with a "diluted" sample. I am sure Ozzie did his due diligence but I thnk with his background he would have been there later and was a bit of a reach at this selection.

Agreed. One could argue that drafting both Mosley and Williams is a sign of giving up on both Brown and Williams. Regardless of whether or not that's the case, its just a headscratcher.

disagree 100%. Brown and Mosely will get a ton of reps this year. Darryl Smith will get 2/3 of his contract so in 2016 you have Brown and Mosely both being 3 down LBs with experience on young rookie contracts. As far as Williams goes, the front office believes you can never have too many DL and Ngata is wearing down and Cody fell off. So Jernigan adds to it the mix for a nasty front 7 in years to come.

That being said, I was hoping for a sexier pick lol

Best Player Available! He had first round grades from multiple sources and yet we get him at 48. We are creating competition on our team. Competition brings out the best in players. There are no given spots on this team and that is how it should be. We have been a successful organization over the last decade by staying true to our board and not reaching for players that fit needs. It is also evident that we are confident in the development of the players on our roster example Wagner. Strong organizations believe in player development, as proven through the success of the Seahawks. Trust the brain staff and watch how everything will work itself out.

Its not a sign of them giving up. Brown and Williams will both get their shot. Ravens run 3-4 (Two Middle Linebackers). Daryl Smith is 32 goin on 33 and wont finish all 4 years. Mosley will probably considered better than Smith by Middle of Next season. Mosley is a top ten pick that slipped so they grabbed him cause he was far better than C-Dix who already hit his cieling, and pryor who plays with no discipline and lets up a play for every one he makes. Chris Canty will be 32 in Nov. and played OK, and Ngata wont be back unless he takes a pay cut. So its safe to say they didnt give up on Brown or Williams. Atleast here on these posts its more intelligent than on facebook.

Mosley and Jernigan instantly provide an upgrade to the team. Looking forward to our next two picks tonight.

I know eventually all the needs will be filled by time training camp opens or by the time the season starts. I am not questioning the experts. I am just a fan who has been spoiled by years of success by the Ravens and would love to see needs be picked by highly rated players is all. I believe in Oz but am entitled as a fan to be disappointed from time to time. I believe the picks we made may mean we will lose some defensive players by trade or cutting, freeing cap room and sign a free agent OT with experience. Who knows what the thinking is but no matter what, I root Purple every game and will do so forever.

Not sure I agree with your assessment...getting more competition on the DLine and LB corps might just ensure that the player who wins the job is better for the competition.  The other thing I noticed is that both players came from National Championship programs so they know how to win!

In the third I'd like to see Jarvis Landry get drafted by the Ravens. I don't care what 40 time he ran, that guy can ball.

I said one could argue that, I don't personally ascribe to that belief.

Here's the problem. Jernigan and Williams both play the exact same position. I can't see either one playing DE, because they offer little as pass rushers, they're run stuffers. Why draft the exact same position in the top three rounds two years in a row? One of the two has to be a backup.

I think you see Suggs and Dumervil playing more of a DE role.

I see Jernigan converting to 5-technique, personally.

Ok. So we just draft Brandon Williams, and the guy the Trojan who was down last year with an acl injury .. On top of mcphee, Tyson, ngata .. Again we're STACKED! Whats the point man.. Like ok, mosely ill give you maybe you cut smith next year or something .. Which i came up with trying to find some logic. But you use two of our first picks on positions we're stacked at ?! Come on guys. Please tell me youre not with this whole "oz has a plan " .. I love the guy, but man did he blow it this draft .. Neg me all you want, but reality is reality

That'd be if we move to the 4-3. If we stay in the 3-4, Suggs and Dumervil play OLB.

I kinda like this pick. But where is Capron Lewis-Moore and Pernell Mcphee gonna fit in now. Ravens are high on this kid so that's why I say this
