Welcome to Baltimore CJ Mosley

144 posts in this topic

Lewan, Beckham, Martin, Ebron.  DeCosta said we would have taken Mosley over all of them.  That says a ton about how our front office views this guy.

It's only because Mosley is a Bama guy. Waaaah wah wah

I bet Steeler fans wanted him badly.

Clearly their FO knows something ours does not.  There's a reason he 'fell'.

Clearing my head. The pick does make a ton of sense

1. Dayrl Smith is old. You can never have too many lbs especially in a 3-4(either scheme really)

2. An injection of youth. We needed this

3. 4-3 Switch dictates depth. We'd have that.

Again

Smith-Mosley-Brown

(Throw to the TEs... I dare you)

Suggs-Ngata-Canty/Williams-Doom

Temporarily eliminating the need to draft a jones Replacement.

Two birds with one stone.

Not the ideal pick, but it does have it's upside

C.J. welcome to Raven history! We's  gonna love,  we's gonna  hate you, gonna read this. Day by  day we die and live by our loved one's. Work hard, remember who you're gonna  follow. Our franchise is young,  our city helped start it all (Durrant's  speech HOF.) and  set the bar high. Ray did and I saw a fist bump on the set! 'Roll tide, go Raven!! Nice shot Oz!!  :3dtext10082zo1:

Guys, please keep in mind that some of our draftees do come to the board and read these threads.  Just sayin'.

Really is one of the best picks we've made in a while (Draft position has a lot to do with that), could be a pro bowler in the near future once he settles into our defense. I'm not exaggerating when I say his game reminds me a lot of Luke Kuechly when he came out of college. Big comparison to live up to, I know.. but this kid was the 2013 Butkus award winner and consensus #1 ILB in the draft for a reason.

Welcome to Baltimore, time to go to work!!!

May as well get them used to the stupid comments, whining and second guessing of the best FO in the league right away. Don't want them to have any false pretenses.

Same reason guys like Ed Reed, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers "fell"

Word. Would hate for them to be under the impression that this place is full of experts.

Understood, lol.  But we could give 'em a 24hr. grace period.

Someone's definitely got their purple shades on tonight.

CJ was the best player available (easliy so IMO) and plays a position that the Ravens needed to address.

Was LB their most pressing need? No,it wasn't. But when a team has a player rated far above what else was left for them and he also is at a position they know they want to make a pick at  then you pull the trigger. Maybe they could have traded back a few picks and still tried to target Clinton-Dix,but if they liked Mosley as much as they say (and I agree with them myself...love this kid) then they're correct to get him.

I like the pick, I can't complain. He's got Pro Bowl potential, he fits perfectly in our defense and we desperately needed a young franchise middle linebacker. Smith is good, but he's not getting any younger and he struggled against the run. So now we have a thumper in the middle who will improve our run defense a lot.

Clinton-Dix would have been ok too, but we already drafted a safety in round 1 last year, you don't do that two times straight if you have some other holes you have to plug. And inside linebacker is like the key to a 3-4 defense, along with the NT position maybe. We can still get a cover safety in the next few rounds and fill some of the other holes we have. But Mosley was the best player available so as always I think Ozzie/Eric made the right pick there.

why? Because I think Mosley is a great prospect? Or because I'm not whining?

I sincerely hope this works out. Would love a new Ray Lewis like ILB who is here for the long run. Welcome, my man.

I really like the pick given the circumstances (I hate the Giants). Whenever I watched HaHa tape, it seemed like Mosely was the one making most of the plays. I'm not 100% sold on his run stuffing or sideline speed (yet: need to go watch some more tape and pump myself up), but he's a quality player and he could well end up being an All-Pro for us.

I think we'll be switching to more of a 4-3 from here. Smith-Mosely-Brown as the Sam-Mike-Will would be as good as any LB corp in the league. Even then, a rotation of Smith, Mosely and Brown as ILBs should be nice (could even chuck them in 3-4 OLB spots for the odd play).

Still ropeable about not getting OBJ or (to a lesser extent) Fuller, but I think he'll do really well and won't push Arthur Brown to the periphery either. They may duke it out for the next couple of years, but long-term they'll be the next Willis-Bowman.

I think Mosley will be good... But I still would've rather had Haha

Like I told you yesterday, most teams apparently viewed him as second round talent, but it's a weak safety class

Hope it pans out just not a fan of the pick.  Your best pick in five seasons spent on a depth move that's had a number of surgeries... Not impressed with the defenders coming out of 'bama and taking their game to the next level.

It just doesn't seem wise given other need areas and talent available.

I was initially disappointed with the pick because I wanted Dennard out of the remaining corners or Lee (who I did not see falling that far).

Everyone here is acting like there weren't surprise picks here, like Bruce Smith, Deone Bucannon, Fee Ford, etc. I bet 49ers fans are a bet shocked they passed on a receiver. The Ravens are not the only team to make a surprise pick.

However, it shouldn't be a huge surprise. Ozzie said inside linebacker was a need (Daryl Smith is 32 and Arthur Brown is still an unknown, even if you all do love him). I know you all wanted a safety (none "worth" a first round pick, in my opinion) and a wide receiver (several good ones still left on the board) or a tackle (again, several good ones still left). The thing about inside linebacker was you had CJ Mosley and then a bunch of nobodies. You don't get Zack Martin, but you can still get Billy Turner, Joel Bitiono, Tiny Richardson, or get this, draft a guard and swing Kelechi out. We don't get OBJ, but there's still Lee, Robinson, Adams, Lattimer, to name a few. They could reach on Clinton-Dix or Pryor, or they could wait until round two where those safeties should have gone, or even trade up in the second. The pick makes sense because he's the ninth best player in the draft and there are still quality players at other positions of need. Mosley goes and ILB is devoid.

I've warmed up to the pick a lot

He's going to start, so he's not depth, and he really made the Bama players around him much better

I really really like this pick. I'll be the first to admit that I was a bit shocked when I heard his name called, but just because of the fact that I really didn't expect him to be our pick.

He has loads of potential very good instincts and hits like a truck. You know that Ozzie loves his picks and not trading down to get even more picks in a very deep draft class tells me how highly they rated Mosley.

Although he has the frame of Brown and Smith, he is very different than those two. He's no stranger to pass coverage but plays the run much better than the two we already have.

I'm not saying he will start from Day 1, but that's because of the fact that I don't even think HaHa would have started from Day 1 and neither did Elam nor Upshaw. We'll give him some time to develop, get him into sub packages and eventually give him a whole lot of playing time.

Brown and Mosley will be a great ILB tandem in the future, mark my words

Matt Miller posted in his final scouting report. He had a list of executive quotes that said Clinton-Dix was nothing special.

On a side note, I have seen nothing but rave reviews about the Mosley pick from experts, and I've really warmed up to it.

It's going to be very interesting. I was shocked that we took him, but its growing on me the more I think about it. The only downside to this pick is the amount of linebackers we already have, but if this guy has potential to be a perennial probowler, and we took him over a Safety who we think is clearly not of the same caliber as him, than this was the right move. Looking at the guy, he is fast, he does not shy away from contact, and the dude is a form tackler. Those are some great things to build on, and as long as he can stay healthy, he will be an excellent addition.
