[News] Round 1: Ravens Select LB C.J. Mosley

381 posts in this topic

It's about time we got bigger at ILB.All of the current ILB stars in the league are atleast 6 foot 2 inches with the exception of Bowman and Willis. Were gonna have one heck of a front seven for the second year in a row.All we need now is Jordan Mathews in the second.Or maybe to trade up and grab Lee in the early second if he keeps dropping.....

Let me take the names of those complaining so when this kid turns out phenomenal I'll see riding the bandwagon

Yea. I want to take some of these names for later as well. I guarantee the people complaining about this pick are going to be the first people on the guy's bandwagon when he's producing 100 tackle seasons year in and out.

I understand the idea of having a good FS over bpa but does everyone who doesn't like the pick honestly think the Ravens would have started two inexperienced safeties in the backfield? Elam would have darn near have to learn another position all over again. Yes he was natural FS, but playing in the Nfl is a big step up as evidenced by Jimmy smith's struggles. He got burned because of inexperience on the Nfl level. I would have preferred a lineman myself but cj was available, bpa, and someone who is a better plug and play player than any new fs with the current personnel.

after the pick was made and I cursed Ozzie  for picking  another Alabama defender . I read this your absolutely right  so now the pick doesn't look so bad .

I remember reading that Mosley was rated high by the Ravens. I was thinking Haha or Pryor but I'm not totally surprised nor disappointed by the pick. It's almost like Ozzie wants to paint a crimson stripe on the logo though. We still need help at FS, OL, RB, and WR.

If anybody is happy about this pick I don't even know what to say. I am honestly nothing but disappointed with this first-round selection. We are not going to make it to the playoffs with darian nobody at FS. There is a giant void in our backfield that needs to be filled. You can try to justify picking an inside linebacker all you want but it is not a position of need. I understand Baltimores mentality, and I respect it; "pick the best man available." But when you have a legitimate position of need you cannot simply ignore it. Picking the best man available is for teams who do not absolutley need a FS.

You do realize that Baltimore has NOT drafted a PRO BOWL Player in the Last 5 Years going on the last 6... So there3 is something to be said about what has happened to the Ravens Drafting process. They do make Mistakes, Dont Keep thinking that Ozzie is Perfect, Take a Look at Terrence Cody, Take a Look at our last OLB from Alabama hell its hard to remember his name, but i can tell ya we traded out of the 1st round and were able to pick him up in the 2nd round 2 years ago, Wanna Guess?? Cuz he is on his way to becoming a Bust too. You really need to stop putting Ozzie up on a Pedestal, cuz he really hasnt done a whole lot lately if you look closely. OK HATERS NEG ME FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH NOW, LOL

... and you even mean all this...

wasted move. not the best player available, injury concerns, you take a player when we are 4 deep at the position, this was a complete waste. bama defenders rarely pan out. pick 17 was a chance to take an impact player, now our best case scenario is that he works out and we wasted a 2nd rounder last year on brown. either way we wasted a top pick. unbelievable

So who you gonna pick, then?  Sure, I'd like to see someone picked in the first round who might bring a little more to the team.  But considering our biggest needs, nobody was there.  You want Manizel?  That would be a true waste.  You want an O lineman?  There weren't any real first round talents left, so may as well wait until the next round.  You want Clinton-Dix?  We already have Elam at free safety, so what are we gonna seriously do with Clinton-Dix?  With Mosley we add a young first round talent behind a veteran first liner.  In all reality, Smith has three years left, max.  He's most going to be unable to keep up by that point, and is likely to be cut the last year of his contract.  Mosley and Brown are our long term solutions.

Why all the hate? This is an awesome pick. Lots of potential, great player. Just remember in 5 years how everyone was complaining.

Just cause Courtney Upshaw hasnt made the probowl he has made a strong impact on the team.  Players used to get 2 or 3 years as back ups before they started now they get thrown in as soon as the season starts so I dont consider any of our guys drafted in the last 3 years bust yet.  And honestly a lot of our guys are underrated but thats how the ravens are.  Its why they play angry bc ppl do not respect them enough.  Its why we are a consistent play off team.

I like the pick... probably would have picked Ha Ha, but there are a few other safeties I'd be happy with. By all accounts, Mosley is the best linebacker in the draft... and we definitely needed a stud linebacker. I still think there's great depth at WR and DT, so no worries there. I'm also wondering when the second wave of offensive tackles will start to come off the board. Would be happy to pick up David Yankey in the second... very versatile lineman.

... and exactly what makes you think you could possibly know better than the complete Ravens draft team?

Seriously. How? How much study have you made on the rookies? They have hundreds of hours. How much film have you seen? They saw lots of hours.

And so on, and so forth...

Seriously, guys... you think you're in any kind of grounds thinking for a second you may possibly know better? Really?

Picking an ILB in the middle of the first round is a little rich. Mosley basically needs to play like a Patrick Willis or Luke Kuechly to warrant that selection. Personally, I think Alabama players are more products of the Saban system and turn out to be average in the NFL, but I do hope he proves me wrong now that he is a Raven. Good luck

I absolutely Agree, I hope he works out as well, But the only thing that is gonna help that is being able to Sure up the Back end of our Defense. I have always liked Omar Brown (reminds me of Ed Reed, always around the ball) But if we can snag Derek Ward that would really help, We still need some help on the Offensive side of the ball

@gekaap, we're moving Elam to strong safety so Dix would have been the better pick. Other than OL, safety was our biggest need.

You know... it's one of those times when everyone knows better than the ones who do it... ;)

Do you not realize that Elam is not a FS, but that his natural position is SS... its why we have a need for a FS

... aaaaand, here we go again, a lot of "fans" suddenly realizing Ozzie doesn't know how to make a pick :D

I trust ozzie for picking defense but not  wide receivers when you have 17 wideouts and only one breaks a 1000 yard season that's your weakness . No one is perfect not even Ozzie .

This pick was in the making last year. D. Smith, while very good, was only going to be a bridge the gap ILB from Ray to our next lb leader--- that's Mosley (hopefully)

The only issue I have with Mosley is his weight. Isn't he a little small to shed blocks and stop powerful RBs?? I am just not very excited with the pick. It is a safe pick but I wish we had gotten an exciting playmaker or a solid lineman like Zack Thomas... and I am surprised we didn't go after Pryor who in my opinion is the best safety in the draft...

Oz knows B.P.A.-Best Player Available and Mosley is going to fit right in with what the Ravens do I just cant wait to see him wrap up Worthlessburger a few times and take him to the turf.

C.J. Mosely was the best player on the board......what does Ozzie always do? Picks the best player on the board. I like the pick. This guy is awesome, I was surprised he was still available. Nobody wants to compare him to Ray...but he sure kind of looks like him when he plays! As far as FS...I am sure Ozzie, Eric, and Harbs have a plan, they always have a plan....so, it's all good folks :)

GO RAVENS!

Now we have up the middle... Ngata, B-Will, D. Smith, CJ Mosley, Matt Elam, and we'll add a safety in a later round. Defenses win championships, and are built "up the middle". Ozzie will get the safety that HE wants...

I also think people forget that there is a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round. We can find a starting safety in the 2nd or 3rd round. A lot of draft left. One pick isn't going to fix our football team. Obviously we are comfortable with Wagoner, I think he deserves a shot. Mosley will make a big impact. Our defense is getting younger, and BETTER!!

No, no, no!  There is no "need" for "help" at WR or RB.  I get so sick and tired of hearing people say this crap.  People need to stop being in love with WRs and RBs (and QBs for that matter) simply because they are spotlight positions.  For crying out loud, we have two starter quality RBs already that any other team would salivate to have.  We have more flipping receiving targets than probably the entire NFC East combined.  At this point the only real NEED is the O-line.  Safety help is not as much of a need as some people seem to think it is.  Sure, need to fill out the roster.  But we're not exactly hurting.
