[News] Round 1: Ravens Select LB C.J. Mosley

381 posts in this topic

A good pick though it was not our primary focus. Seeing Zack Martin fall right in front of us irked me a lot. Dallas has stuck it to us twice on this draft. I was hoping that they would be stupid enough to grab Manziel. Kind of surprised that JJ did not go that route. Now, I hope that Mosley does not pan out to be another Dan Cody or Sergio Kindle. Hopefully, C.J will fit right in and be our guy in the middle for years to come. I hope that we are still focused on getting that O-line wide body that we so need.

Confused! Didn't we win the Super Bowl 2 yrs ago & make the playoffs 5 yrs in a row. Hasn't Ozzie been the man for a long time? Seems to me after reading these comments that maybe we have Ozzie's replacement right here. CONGRATULATIONS & GOOD LUCK to you experts that are obviously much sharper than the QZ!

watch terrance brooks tomorrow. i love the mosley pick, i had him above clinton dix and pryor by a good deal, never expected him to be around at 17, but brooks could seriously be the guy at safety. he isn't as good as ward, but he is a similar type player and has a lot of skill. he would be a great addition.

To all the people negging this pick, yeah we didn't get a "position of need", but watch some tape and read up on the intangibles, we just drafted the guy who's going to be captain of our D in five years time.

If you put much stock in the nfl.com draft-ratings (which are probably as only as subjective as anyone elses opinion), this guy was rated eigth and we got him at 17, the best rating jump of any pick in the first round. So any way you look at it we got a steal

.... neg if you need to

Also, since Steelers drafted ridiculously fast Shazier, I think our next top priority is OT. That guy ran 4.36! 40-yard dash at pro-day. He can literally run a circle around a tackle and still get to the QB.

I can still painfully remember Polamalus' sack fumble for a TD from 2010 that cost us the game (and pretty much led to Steelers SB victory). It seemed like forever when he got clean through from the left side and was rushing for Flacco. Please don't make me watch anything like that ever again, please!

C.J. is a great player. maybe getting Pryor or Clinton-Dix made more sense but I believe he will be an impact player since day 1. Thing is we now have 3 starting caliber ILB so lets hope it work out well

The more I see of this guys highlights the more I like him. Very patient and cerebral player who watches what is happening in front of him. Many young guys engage the runner or blocker at the wrong times or in the wrong position, not this guy. I know many are disappointed we didn't get a top safety or lineman, but ILB is also a big need for us.

This is Ozzie and The Ravens sticking to their word. The best pick available. There was not a tackle worthy of the 17th pick avaialable. Ha Ha Dix would have been a good choice, but Mosely is an excellent choice FOR THE FUTURE, not just this year. We need a MLB to be a leader in this defense. Smith is really only here for one, maybe two seasons. Three years from now, this choice will look brilliant.

BPA.

It will never cease to amaze me how many people here think they know how to build a football team better than our FO.

Good luck to the kid. Go Ravens!!

ILBer was a position i talked about for the past few months, and this solidifies the position, but both Brown and Mosley to add some weight....I wouldn't be surprised if we went DT if Nicks is available... or if that Bama OT is still on the board...

Have no issue with the pick, although probably the toughest pill to swallow for me is the fact that we likely lost Zack Martin literally because of a coin flip. I have no doubt we would have sprinted to the podium to pick him if Dallas didn't.

I think Cincy's run is over and with Pitt going back to pounding it up the middle with Bell and Blount this could the pick that helps us get the division back.

There are some really crazy fans who know nothing about football on here. That being said, knew they were going to pick him after Martin was just picked. Best linebacker in the draft, good pick.

Man, some people are grumpy! We decide not to trade the pick, which historically has been something people complain that we do, and we select the best player available, somethig the Ravens do! Yet people are mad? Child Please. Mosley is a good football player, and the best player available on the board. Do we need a free saftey? Sure, but did we need to take one at 17? No. Drafting for need is not the correct motive because it forces you to value a player more than they are worth. Stick to the board Oz, and Eric.

Pick Manziel at 17, trade him to the Browns for pick 26 plus a third rounder. Trade the third round pick for Stevie Johnson from the Bills. Then use pick 26 to get thier safety. See, I can do Ozzies job, I will send my resume.

Mosely is a good player but I wanted a playmaker for offense . we have allot invested in the linebacker position already and his injury history is concerning. I can see us entering the season with a need at Fs .Not thrilled with any of the safties left unless we field a clone of Elam .

And when the Browns say no to that deal (which they would have), we are stuck with a guy who can't play for us.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is why cattle are cattle.

Great pick. Him and Arthur Brown will probably rotate often this year to see how Brown is coming along. Depending on how they play, we may try to trade Daryl Smith and get a player at a need position or a 4th round pick next year.

Solid pick, can't go wrong picking the best ILBer in the draft, when we were lacking depth, and knowing Smith has maybe 2 years left...Can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd rounds....

Well, can't complain about our lack of depth with coverage inside backers. Hopefully set at the position for the next 10-15 years with him and Arthur Brown (and Daryl Smith for a few years). Hopefully we keep the BPA attitude going forward, hopefully we can land some steals.

Best available--Ed Reed? Keeping Joe upright? Bitonio?Cameron Fleming? Jack Mewhort? Please NO Anthony Steen at least not until Saturday late, late Saturday. CB? Keith McGill? Stanly Jean Baptist? Gaines,Roberson? Maybe Ed Reynolds from Stanford at safety? I hope this coming season is not a Rumsfeld moment: Going into the season with the Castillo coached 0-line we have instead of the one we want/need. Good luck Joe,stay alive.

From the article:

"The only question mark with Mosley is his health. Mosley had a number of injuries at Alabama, reportedly including dislocations of his elbow (freshman year) and hip (sophomore year), a knee injury and others."

My opinion:

That's a huge question mark. Generally a guy who is injury prone in college when he's still in his late teens/early twenties is more likely to get hurt playing against bigger, stronger, faster players in the NFL, especially as he ages.

Really hoping this doesn't turn out to be another 'Bama bust by Ozzie (like Cody & Upshaw).

Anyone who wanted the Ravens to draft Manziel please do us all a favor and start following the Browns, we have no room for you on this board or M&T.
