The Vent Thread 2014 Draft

889 posts in this topic

The way our FO is drafting should let everbody know it was coaching that failed us last year......

Well let's hope not because our worst thing was OL and we still have Castillo.

Early post in this thread acted like Mosley is our bowman but the report on why brown was taken last year was because he

Reminded Ozzie of bowman. Fwiw bowman didnt play as a rookie and gradually improved into who he is now.

So I look at Mosley as getting our Patrick Willis, the running mate to go with bowman for a few years.

With Evans and Ebron off the mb this pick was one I liked

Overall I am happy with the draft. Sucks Cleveland grabbed Terrance West before he could fall to us but I am a man of my word. Going to buy a West Browns jersey. Told myself as long as it isn't Pittsburgh, New England or Philly, I will buy one.

Let me research this Gilmore kid, never heard of him.

One thing I've learned over the years is to wait until the end to vent. Therefore I will wait, but I'm scratching my head. Seeing the Jets take Amaro with the next pick hurt, though.

The Jets are having a good draft so far. I like the movse they're making.

I thought Dexter McDougle was a major reach for them and was surprised they drafted him over guys like Pierre Desir, Keith Mcgill,Jaylen Watkins and etc

Just like we thought this year would be offense heavy but it again looks like the ravens will draft late round wide receivers that will be out of the league in two years . harper, Moore , mellete ( probably gone after this year )

And correct me if wrong but wasn't jernigan the guy that couldn't finish the national championship game because of poor conditioning?

Excited for this 4th round, a lot of goods cbs and wrs have fallen

This being the vent thread ----->> I'm sure your hopes and dreams will be crushed in the next few hours. I'm thinking long snapper at 134 and holder at 138. :) Follow that up with a really good backup QB and throwaway pick at 194....The Draft is Dead, Long Live the Draft. :)

When you're 300 pounds playing against a run heavy team, it's difficult to play all 80 snaps on defense. He played like 62 of 85 or something. I mean, no defensive lineman on the Ravens plays every single snap on defense. Kinda goes with being a big man

I had to research him too. Once you do, you'll find out why we selected him. Might of been a bit early, but not a huge reach. He's big and strong (as he plays to his size). He has great hands and is a great blocker. His speed is average for the tight ends in this draft. So he's not a burner for a TE, but he's not slow. He needs to work on his route running. But that's easier to fix than catching the ball. This pick was all about potential. He has the potential to be a great #2 TE and a huge redzone target.

I don't see what everyone sees in West. But there is still a huge amount of offensive talent in this draft. So many guys that could become potential starters down the road. Fortunately we don't need them to start right away. My top WR prospect right now is Ellington despite his small size. He really seens NFL reasy.

I thought he couldn't finish because he was ill.

I may be initially upset, but I try to remain positive because these are the newest Ravens, and we can't change that, so why not welcome them with open arms? That and it was a completely true statement. No 300 pound defensive lineman plays 80 snaps in a game.

haven't watched the game in full but read he totally gassed out in the 4th qtr and thats why he lost weight for combine, leading to the excess water intake and diluted sample.

If true, he'll fit right in. Our defense gassed out in the 4th quarter quite a bit last season. Everyone blamed the offense but - you know, we didn't address that need so...guess we can expect more of the same.

Honestly though - I did read somewhere that he was ill.

You are correct, sir!  This is from his overview on NFL.com:

Battled an illness in the National Championship Game against Auburn and had nine tackles.

For running back, there's Storm Johnson (UCF), James White (Wisconsin), and Isaiah Crowell (Alabama State).

For tackle, there's Matt Patchan (Boston, he's actually one of the most athletic tackles in the draft), Seantrel Henderson (Miami), and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (McGill).

For receiver, there's Coleman (Rutgers), Jared Abbrederis (Wisconsin), and TJ Jones (Notre Dame).

I really want Abbrederis seems like a great route runner. And you're forgetting Andre Williams from BC at running back

Am I selfish because I wanted us to draft McCarron so that we can see his old lady on the jumbotron???

Steelers get Dri Archer and Martavis Bryant. Browns get West and Desir. We get a TE in the 3rd who would still be on the board now and a bum rb. Total incompetence to pick Gillmore that high, not a single TE taken in the entire 4th round. We could've had Andre Williams, a legit power back that would've been great depth and our short yardage back. Or Desir who would've competed for our #3 cb spot and been a good ST'er.

I'm blowing a gasket looking back at how we squandered that pick and absolutely fell on our face since the Terrence Brooks pick. I'm actually embarrassed, the Browns have drafted better then us in the mid rounds. All those quality rb's and we miss out on every single one. Shameful day 3, absolute failure every step of the way starting with our 3rd round comp pick. There's no way you can argue that Andre Williams wasn't a better pick at that point? When a fan can do the scouts job better then the scouts something is very wrong.
