Ravens Draft 2014

616 posts in this topic

I like Crocker but how to we pass on Desir?

I guess Crocker is the inline blocking TE that the team wanted.

To me, it looked like a draft for need, in which we got our blocking TE to compensate Dennis Pitta and Owen Daniels.

First Two Picks are BPA, and if any of them become a Pro-Bowler, then the draft is a success.

The 3rd Rounders seem to be draft for needs, and I know Ozzie has been hitting and missing those picks, but if any of them becomes a starter, then the draft is a success.

Now let's see if we land any hidden gems tomorrow.

Who the hell is Crocket Gillmore????

Strengths

Has a good compact frame with long arms and big hands. Chippy, competitive blocker -- latches on and plays through the whistle. Good finisher. Natural hands catcher. Catches in a crowd and will shake off a hit and run through contact. Rises to a challenge and matched up well as a base blocker vs. Alabama's Adrian Hubbard. Functional positional, pass protector. Very durable.

I really thought, we could improve the offense past the patch up job, that we gave it this offseason in this draft. Instead we only improved the defense, which was already doing fine such as it was. I guess we're expecting much from the old guys, who are on their last leg and a couple untested players.

I really hope that gamble works out for us, because I'm very sceptic after last season.

Loved the first three picks, but hate the fourth. Don't like Gilmore. Would've liked to see Bryant, Abbrederis, Coleman or Desir there. Way too early for Gilmore IMO.

I don't want to hear anything about our offense this coming season. Nary a word. There isn't an impact WR left on the board and any OL pick will be hit or miss at this point too. Ozzie & company gave them none of the help they promised when they talked about "building the offense like we did the defense."

If the offense sucks in 2014 - go tell Ozzie about it.

Crockett was rising fast expected to be s 4th rounder by most scouts. Can block and has good hands. This has been a good draft so far. They need a blocking TE, Daniels and Pitta are not blockers. Allows them to split both wide and good for RZ.

I understand that the first 3 picks were "good value", but even if they all work out, it won't make a huge impact on the team, because they will end up contributing to a part of the game, that the Ravens didn't have huge problems with. The offense struggled alot last season and that's where we could've made the biggest impact on the team as a whole.

I don't think we became a much better team through the draft than we were before it. :(

We way overreached for this pick.  I'd much rather that we just took Andre Williams from Boston College.  He's the big, pile-moving back that we have been lacking.

I think this draft also had a lot to do with cap coming next year. Ngata maybe webb etc... with that said I was hoping to pick a corner like desir to match up with with smith if we have to release webb if we cant restructure. I liked the first 3 but we reached on the te.

Wait - didn't see that - so we just drafted a 6th or 7th rounder in the 3rd? Great.

No, I've only seen him projected as a 4th rounder.  That analysis might be old or something

For those who have watched the press conference,  FO just stated that initially their board was heavily stacked in favor of offense; however, things changed as certain players left the board.

I think Kubiak and Ozzie know something about TEs. I like West but is more of what we already have. I hope the take RB Freeman tommorrow, jitterbug do it all type.

I know the defensive coaches are very happy with this draft, but Gary Kubiak and company might have to wait next year.

Could be. I didn't see anything about him being 6th or 7th round until that post.

I am hoping we can keep kubiak next year. I hope this is not a stepping stone for the right head coaching job to open.

I told you the ravens don't target a WR in the first 3 rounds...prepare for Mike Campenero to be our only pick

I'd be OK with this

Good point, I think rest of the league were going wild with the offensive players, that quality defensive players that fell on the Ravens' lap were too good to pass.

I commend the Front Office for going BPA, instead of reaching for needs.

I'm very disappointed  that we have done nothing at all to fix the offense . I don't think signing two older players and adding Williams back improved anything from last years Clark and stokely . Tomorrow draft will be for special teams and also ir and practice squad players but next year maybe we can get one impact player in the draft for offense. that's if joe does not get hurt being sacked so much.

Why?  Don't they have Marlon Brown, Juice (a former TE), and perhaps Furstenburg?

Gotta love the people complaining about the offense. I like how you would pick a player less skilled at a position of need rather than a more skilled player at a position that has depth.   OZ and co. rank these players.

If anything, this draft really proves OZ picks BPA according to their board.. and doesn't pick by need.

The good thing is we are still young on offense minus Smith sr. But I wouldnt be surprised if we keep hitting the defense and wait for guys to get cut.

Not a huge fan of BPA all the time to be honest.

That's what we said last year. -_-

Our biggest weakness coming into the draft was the offense. That's were new players could've made the biggest impact for the team. Instead we just made the defense even better, which is nice, but you've got to adress all phases of the game, not just the defense.

Our team pretty much leaves the draft, the way it entered it. Heavily geared towards the defense.

I am a fine of bpa... I am not a fan of trading back when a quality player is there unless we are getting a bunch of picks for it. I wouldnt trade back unless we knew we were getting the guy later that we wanted like the trade that never happened with the bears.

WR isn't an immediate need with Smith Sr on the roster. Maybe they know something bout Marlon we don't. My guess is that we are moving to a 4-3.. And that they think Winston(or Wagner has progressed) is coming to town. In which case, the first three picks were are actually pretty good. I actually loved the Jerrnigan pick and the Brooks pick. Mosley I've warmed up too.

But that last pick was crap

I think we are pressing to hard to get wrs and everybody wanted a home run guy. But unless we were getting watkins or evans I was fine with picking up a slot guy later. We are young with wrs and sometimes guys come out of nowhere... like brown did. We still dont know about Mallette and maybe... just maybe we can pick another undrafted later or a released guy once camps start. I would have liked to have traded for stevie johnson. If we get desperate Doss will probably get cut after looking at what the Jaguars did and we did sign Williams back who might make the team at least as a special teams guy.
