Ravens Draft 2014

We did upgrade from last year. K.O is healthy right? Monroe is one of the best at his position right? Didn't we upgrade the Center position with Zuttah? Isn't Yanda one of the best in the league at his position? Wasn't Oher one of the most hated players in Baltimore? Isn't Steve Smith a future Hall Of Famer? Isn't Gary Kubiak one of the best offensive minds in league history. Im sorry but im trying to find a reason to cry over here but I see nothing. Tell me what im missing.

KO is coming off back surgery, Zuttah is still backed up by Gino, we've got no RT outside of Wagner. Remember, what happened, when we started to get injuries on the OL last year?

Steve Smith WAS a future HoFer, he doesn't have the ability anymore, that will get him to the HoF. If he still was, the Panthers wouldn't have cut him.

I'm not crying, I still like our squad, I'm sure Kubiak and Flacco will make it work, but the lack of depth across the board on offense was very obvious last year, while we already had a solid defensive roster, that was ranked close to the top 10.

The offense has little depth and close to no prospects that might have a future on our roster. Just a couple good players surrounded by old guys on their way out of the league, cast offs and UDFAs.

This was a draft deep in WR and OL talent and we managed to avoid all of them. But atleast we have a crowded Dline.

When I look at what the Steelers and Browns did in the mid rounds im embarrassed at our pathetic haul outside of the top 3 guys we picked

offense in 2013 ranked 29th in the league . defense ranked 12th . draft to improve the defense , draft a tight end to block to fix the offense yep makes perfect sense to me.

Steelers get Dri Archer and Martavis Btyant. Browns get West and Desir. We get a blocking TE who would still be on the board now and unecessary Dl and bum rb. Someone should lose their job over these mid rounds

No other upgrades? So Pitta and Daniels are not upgrades over Clark and Dickson? And last time I checked our main problem with the O-line was the Center and RG. KO was injured and Gino was trash. And I would take Steve smith over Stokley, Jacoby Jones any day. I can't believe people are really thinking our Offense is going to be as bad as it was last year. This is too funny.

Pitta was on this team last year so no upgrade there,,, Daniels is old and injury prone that's not an upgrade. steve smith like I said yes hall of fame player but that was years ago. NO right tackle ....Oher was bad but at least he did protect at times....the offense got a center I give you that . it is funny that people think Joe can throw laying on his back or accurately throw running for his life,,,or even better if he gets hurt then we get to watch tyrod score 14 points for the other team in 2 minutes:)

But your talking like you expect injuries to happen to everyone on the line. That's not how I like to view things. And Steve smith today is a upgrade over every other receiver we have other then Torrey Smith. Owen Daniels and Dennis Pitta will be healthy this season, that's an upgrade over Dickson and Clark.

no tight end taken since. Id bet he'd still be on th3 board even now. No issue with the player, just at the point he was drafted

Two tight ends taken since.  Arthur Lynch and Larry Webster were both drafted after Gillmore.

Pitta wasn't healthy at all last year. He played a couple of games last year but NO WAY was he 100%. I don't like to look at a new season guessing who's going to get injured its not my style. Lol and you bring up Flacco, that injury happened cause of Gino Being lost on the play. Wagner is going to be fine at RT.

Sometimes you have to make not so sexy picks in order to make the sexy picks sexy.

When was the last time we had a stud blocking @ TE? He's gonna improve our passing game and our rushing attack. We need that with all the pass rushers we have in the AFC North, with all the pass rushers we're gonna face on our way to the superbowl.

I know you are right and I really don't mean to second-guess Ozzie, but we all like a little sexy now and then. This draft is totally void of Raven sexy. Buuuuuutttt, we added some good candidates for a year on IR. :(

It's been a rough draft for some. My gallows humor gets me through. :)

Not the draft I was expecting, but Oz knows what he's doing.

Go Ravens, kick buuuuuuuuuutttttttttt lol

It is amazing the number of out of work, yet incredibly knowledgeable, NFL GMs that are on this forum. All these fan/GMs that know so much more than our entire FO. I am stunned that not one of them has been picked up by any of the 32 teams out there. How is this possible? Obviously these guys football acumen is legendary. Well legendary in their own minds.  After all, most of them have numerous years spudding on their sofas, guzzling brews and yelling at their TVs while watching football. If that is not GM quality credentials, I don't know what is.

I'm comforted in this draft because I believe defense wins championship. We must've felt with all this offense going, the defensive players we took were more valuable. Also tells me they believe in Kubiak's system and the pieces we already have in place on offense. I haven't watched much video of the players we selected, but our front office knows what they're doing.

It makes me more anxious about seeing how our offense pans out. I'm bummed we couldn't come out with a top WR or OL, but the drafts not over and who knows, we might find a gem. We won it with slightly above average offensive players in 2012. (Had some luck plays, o-line played great, and one of the best QB performances ever), Can't bet on doing that again though. Hoping Steve Smith & Daniels can be x-factors for us. Also hoping Torrey & Marlon progress. Pitta should be fully healthy. Monroe won't be thrown into the fire. Shipley & Gino won't be getting abused.

I think we're a better team than last year. Accounting for players leaving and other guys progressing, it could even itself out. Defense wins championships but the offense will have to do its part. I'm also worried about team chemistry in some aspects.

Having said all that, I think our division got a hell of a lot better as well. Similar forumula as last year. New coaching staff. Take 2.

Howard Jones from Shepherd U would be an interesting pick in the 6th.... freak athlete just undersized... kinda like doom.

we may not have Ngata or Canty after this year... so by everyones suggestion lets draft a wr or rb lineman early forget our defense of the future and build on one of youngest part of our team.

Ok. Here's my quick two cents because some of this complaining is getting ridiculous.

The Ravens added a healthy Pitta, Steve Smith, Owen Daniels, Jeremy Zuttah, Darian Stewart, and get KO back from injury. Not to mention, OC Gary Kubiak.

The Ravens are set at WR apart from maybe a late round developmental guy.

Torrey, Steve, Marlon, Jacoby, Laquan (For ST), and Mellette will be our 6. Where would another prospect rationally fit in?

Marlon has all the potential in the world to be a dominant WR in my opinion. Don't sleep on him.

I'm 99.9% Sure that Eric Winston will be signed so with him and Wagner at RT, we'll be solid.

Crockett Gillmore is AT WORST a good blocking tight end with the potiental to become a really good red zone complement to Pitta. Maybe a reach but it's the end of the third round, not the second, not the first. Chill.

Terrence Brooks, Timmy Jernigan, and Cj Mosely are all gonna be solid 5-10 year starters and I'm very excited about Brooks, he's gonna be a steal due to his aggressiveness and playmaking ability.

Jernigan is a force in the middle and will greatly improve the run defense and open holes for our pass rushers.

Mosely is essentially a younger Daryl Smith which is a great thing to have and can be a leader for our defense.

Urban reminds me of a fellow raven, Chris Canty, and has a lot of potiential to be a steal in the 4th round.

Talliaferro can be our short yardage/goal line back which we desperately need. (Remember that Chicago game where we couldn't get two yards? Exactly.)

We still have two more picks left and hey, hopefully we'll get a solid CB/OL/WR (Exum/Washington would be nice) but we're having a very solid draft so far. Three future defensive starters and some key backups and rotational players. The Ravens already had a playoff-caliber roster before the draft thanks to FA and the Zuttah trade.

All we really need so far assuming we sign Winston is a rotational CB (who could also be a cut player that Ozzie scoops up), and a solid backup QB (Same).

But seriously, just because we didn't get your favorite player doesn't mean we're having a terrible draft. So just sit back, and enjoy the rest of the draft.

P.S. - I'm sure we'll have an UDFA steal or two as well.

In Ozzie We Trust.

Also I think we can say that we did get a first rd lineman this year with a 4 and 5 rd pick. Monroe is better than any lineman in this draft. Zuttah is better than any center and KO of 2012 is better guard than anyone and dont forget Yanda.

I was thinking the very same about Ngata and Canty for next year but you can add Cody to this year. Unless he's converted 30lbs of "fleshy mid section" to muscle magically in the past few weeks....he's gone by Sept.

Well said. The level of complaining is ridiculous.. There is a rant thread. Go whine over there.

Seems pretty obvious the Ravens agree with my sentiment that the offense has plenty of talent, and that the issue is performing.

If this draft does anything, it has taken off any pressure that might have been on the offensive guys of being replaced.  No high draft picks coming in to threaten anyone's spot.  So... let's hope these guys repay Ozzie's confidence in their talent.

Cleveland certainly not trying to threaten anyone in the division.  Maybe in the run game, which is exactly what the Ravens appear to be bulking up against on defense.

Wake me up... when September... begins?

I love this post, I couldn't had said it better.

I want to add that I believe our Draft strategy was phenomenal. Taking advantage of the deep offensive talent that will make top defensive players drop to us. Many of our picks were projected to be higher picks in this and in any other draft ie: C.J Mosley top 10-15 in this draft, Many people say clear top 8 in any other draft. Instead of competing with all other team  for offensive players we will just take top players that will be starters in our team for years to come. Key Ozzie Newsome mentality, "We are not just picking for this year but for the future of our franchise" if you can't handle the uncertainty of knowing who the Ravens will take, go root for the teams that "win" drafts by picking the early and the predictable choices, the most consistent aspect of those teams is that they pick early every year.

In the Baltimore Ravens I trust!

I think if henderson from Miami is still there he is worth a pick. Big lineman from the U. Played LT but would be a good late rd pick up at RT to battle Wagner.

fingers crossed for Antonio Richardson but its probably another DT

I imagine that the Ravens will shift focus a bit to offense in the later rounds.
