Could Ravens get a quality WR post draft?

49 posts in this topic

Ravens need to take one in this upcoming draft.  Smith is 35, the FO is kidding themselves if they're relying on him to be the #2 for longer than a year.  We already know Jacoby can't be an actual #2.  Just take a damn WR that isn't a complete project so this never ending saga of who Joe will throw to isn't on a year to year basis.

Agreed. Missing out on one of the deepest WR drafts ever because you signed a 35 year old Steve Smith would be a huge mistake. Not even counting the fact that Marlon Brown wasn't the most consistent either, despite how good he looked at times.

Well, I have always been a fan of Stevie Johnson(Bills) but it looks like the 49ers, once again, got a receiver that I wanted in a Ravens uniform...smh. And to make it worse, it was for a conditional 4th rd pick in next year's draft if I'm not mistaken. This is the only problem I have with Ozzie. I think Ozzie is one of the best GMs in the league but we hardly get jewels like this deal. In fact, we give up jewels like this, i.e. Boldin for a 4th rd pick. Again, I'm not hating on Ozzie, I just would rather trade a mid-late rd pick for a proven player than gamble that late rd pick on players with potential. To me, it's like a draft, except the players are slightly older; but at least you know for sure that they can play in the NFL.

Bottomline, every pick 1-7 is a gamble so why not trade a mid-late pick or two for a proven player who has shown he can produce in the NFL instead of cherishing every single pick and use them on players who you hope will produce.

You sleep through the Monroe trade?  We fleeced Jax so bad some teams GMs wanted to block the trade.

Sure didn't... I didn't say it has never happened. I applauded that deal. I'd just like to see more of them. I mean, the 49ers, for example, did it twice in 2 years. And in 2 years, they got 2 proven 1,000 yrd receivers in Boldin & Johnson... for only two 4th-round picks mind you (one for each receiver). It just seems like that's one area we don't cover thoroughly enough to see if there are some low hanging fruits. I think Ozzie's mouth got sour after the T.O. trade debacle and for the most part has stayed away.

Everyone always forgets about aaron molette. He was looking pretty good till he got "hurt" or took his redshirt year. Interesting to see how he develops.

Anything's possible, but I'm not sure what they need with a receiver...

They already have multiple quality receivers onthe roster.  Three of them are very young, Jacoby should be good for at least a few more years, and they've got multiple capable tight ends as well.  Receiver just isn't a need.

Now... running back and offensive line, I'm all for looking at those positions after the draft.

I really think they'll bring in Winston to compete with Wagner.  I think they're pretty high on Wagner stepping in at RT.

Just be glad the Bills didn't do something REALLY bad for the league, like trading him to the Patriots, Broncos, or Saints.  I'm okay with him going to the 49ers.  Anything to shut up those Seahawks and their fans.  I really wish the Ravens played Seattle this year.  grrr

The 49ers have been among the cream of the crop these last few seasons(3 straight NFC Championship appearnaces including a SB appearance) so to me it's just as bad as trading him to the Broncos or Pats(3 or 4 straight AFC Championship appearances). The only difference is they aren't in our conference.

Steve can be #2 this year. Marlon can step up and be #2 after that.

Remember how the Bills fleeced us with Lee Evans? Yeah. I'm not sure the trade is all that good. I don't trust the Bills when it comes to trades all the time. They even made out on that Hughes trade.

Pretty sure a new avi might be needed.

This topic could use a re-up. I've been trying to find time to look at who looks at risk using depth charts and spotrac.  I think it is very possible a receiver and many other positions including OT and FS come available.

FS

I'd like to think we could use a steady hand at FS to guide the back end as we transition Terrance Brooks into the starting role.  I mean Elam only has one year and despite a good body of work made some mental mistakes throughout his rookie season.

WR

I'm inclined to think we are kind of loaded with depth if not quality at WR.  T.Smith, S.Smith, J.Jones, M.Brown as our top 4 means another vet makes a crowded group unless he's an obvious upgrade one of those guys.  Not to say we won't do it or make any move that makes us better but I'm not sure how Randle is much better than who we have.

I'd take Marlon over Randle no questions asked

Randle is far better than brown. That's not really close. But the giants are not going to part ways with him.
