YOUR Favorite ever Ravens Draft pick

59 posts in this topic

Marshal Yanda. The dog in my avatar is named Yanda. His brother is Grubbs. Oz also gave up 3 picks to move up in the 3rd rd(has that ever happened before that late in the draft). Oz wanted him bad and he scored.

Sorry man. You're gonna have to change Grubb's name to Kelechi or Osemele. It's only right. ;)

Looking back on 2004 and 2005 and it is clear they were not our very best drafting years. Chester Taylor was a decent RB taken in 2002 and he spent 10 years in the NFL, which is not bad for a late sixth round pick.

Maybe I should change his name to Grads. Pretty close to Grubbs. Lol.

Joe Flacco. By far. He may not be a future HOF like Lewis, Reed, Odegen, Suggs, or Ngata, but lets not forget how many years of terrible QBs we endured before Flacco.

Ogden, our first ever draft choice, was certainly a very good selection, especially when considering the circumstances surrounding it. Many people wanted the Ravens to draft RB Lawrence Philips, but it's obvious now that J.O. was the better pick.

*Lawerence Phillips. He's still in prision. He got sentenced to 25 years in 2009. I would have liked us to draft Lawerence Taylor lol.

I knew it was Lawrence something. Then the name Taylor must've just come into my head. Philips was definitely pretty horrible. He played 4 seasons with three teams and was a complete waste of a pick for the Rams.

2011 was really exciting, with landing both Jimmy and Torrey. I was also really excited about landing Arthur Brown last year in the 2nd.

Mine would be Torrey Smith. I thought he was going to go late 1st/early 2nd and didn't think we'd get a chance to get him and when we got him I was ecstatic.

Loved the Zibby pick too. My room mate in college was a huge ND fan so I watched a lot of games with him and zibby really stood out. He always played like a Raven and wanted him bad.

He was imposing and electrifying. Also was a pretty good returner. Add the gold gloves boxing and professional knockouts - he was a scary dude.

Didn't quite live up to my lofty expectations but when he was on the team that position group was the best and most deep i think we've ever had. Reed and Landry as starters with nakamura and zbikowski as the backups? Awesome.

In my opinion, while in college, Zibby looked like the total package coming out Notre Dame.  Great reads, hard hitting and the touchdown reels just seemed to go on forever it seemed.  I really hated seeing him go.  Not that I'm not happy with our current safety status, but I'd like to see him return to Baltimore.

Joe Flacco and Ray Rice...probably because that year had such a good feel to it. We had a new coach then  got Flacco and Rice in the same draft and started to forge our championship roster. After we got Flacco I knew there was nothing extraordinary about him...but I knew he could be a QB who could win games and get done what needs to be done. And Rice was a little beast coming out of Rutgers.

6 Solid years out of them ...and hopefully 6 more with another ring or 2. :)

Recently it was either the duos of the Smiths or Elam and Brown. I think we'll hit on another big name duo this year.

Especially since they trusted him so much, they traded Jerome Bettis to the Steelers lol

I think everyone forgot about Adalius Thomas in the 6th round.  In my opinion, that was the best value pick we've ever gotten.  All-Pro players rarely get picked in the 6th round.

CJ Mosely

Because with this pick Ozzie reminded all of us how the Ravens do things. They ignored the need at safety, the temptation to trade down, or the need to reach for a RT and drafted the best player on their board even though linebacker is not a need. It's the Ravens way and like it or hate it, it has lead to two Championships.

Usually I'd say something hipster for a question like this, but for me it's no question a tie between Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Two guys who fell into the bottom of the 1st round and became future 1st ballot  hall of famers on the same defense in their primes, that's just amazing. Without a doubt my two favorite football players ever.

Honorable mentions would be Peter Boulware and Jamal Lewis.

It's definitely Joe Flacco for me. Growing up, I was a Jerry Rice fan more than I was a fan of any particular team. When he retired, there was a huge void for a while. Then, a guy I know from school is causing all sorts of pre-draft waves and talked about as a possible first round pick at QB. Then, the Ravens actually draft him, and he subsequently becomes their starter from Game 1 on. Awesome. No more void, and I have become more a fan of the Ravens "team" because of it than I ever have been about any team in all my life as a huge sports fan. I love everyone on the squad and study as much as I can about all of them.

Accusations about me being a Flacco homer are, well, accurate, although I do consider myself one of the rather rational members of the fan club.

Draft?

Ogden/Lewis

Pick?

Lewis

Seriously how can I not?

None are on the same level as them. The only one close would be Ed, and maybe one day, The Flacco!

I gotta say that I'm lovin' that we picked up Campanero. I watched a few WF games and said at the time as bad as we need a guy like him, I hope we pick him up. Just a feeling, but I think he's going to be a beast of an NFL slot R. Could end up being an all time favorite for me.

my favorite picks are biased due to me picking these guys to be stand outs when we drafted them and they proved me right.

1. art jones- i was so excited when we got him b.c of how far he fell and we picked him up. i am a big mma fan so i followed him and his brother chandler in college b.c of jon jones. i knew art was a steal, before he got hurt he was a projected first rd pick. probably one of the best value picks we have gotten.

2. webby- didnt know much about him when we drafted him, but just watching him made me excited and from season one i saw him as a future star and he has.

3. pitta- i loved the pick when we drafted him b.c he never was a sexy tight end with amazing speed or athletic ability, but he had great hands and maturity.

this year

 1. taliaferro- played against him in highschool, he was in the same district as me. i would love to him succeed.

2. urchel- i am very high on this guy. i just have a feeling about him, i think he is going to be something special. i have mentioned in several posts my expectations for him. i think 3 big contributors in this draft are going to be urchel, jernigan and mosley hope im right. ill admit i didnt know much about him when we drafted him, but after everything ive seen and read he has left quite the impression on me.

3. jernigan- cant believe we picked him up in the 2nd rd. such a steal. this was my favorite move as i was watching the draft.

Hartwell comes from a great family

Jimmy smith because I wanted that shut down corner

The one I hated at the time was ngata because we swapped with Cleveland to take him

So I didnt like giving up a pick to switch with them and at the time I was alll in on the Bunkley hype.

Ha, I remember debating whether we should take Ngata or Bunkley. I grudgingly said Ngata, because I thought he'd be a better fit for us.

Well, I was half right lol...can't believe how crappy Bunkley turned out

The Jimmy Smith pick was the most enjoyable and stressful pick we've ever made, for me at least..... I almost had a stroke because of the stupid Bears. Then we draft The Jimmy who I wanted most next to Wilkerson.

Jermaine Lewis-5th Round (1996)

Scored 22 TDs as a Raven including 6 Punt Returns. He added 2 more return TDs in playoff games including a kickoff in Super Bowl XXXV.

Was also an All Pro twice in 1998 & 2001. Incredible value for a 5th rounder and was a great compliment to the JO and #52 picks.
