Draft a Franchise: Discussion

Not officially.

Alright, if he does can I switch? I wouldn't mind him as a backup, but obviously if he retires, I can't use him

You can't switch, unfortunately. We had a similar issue with Daryl Washington when the GM wasn't aware of his suspension and it was ruled that each GM is stuck with whoever they select.

But that is a completely different circumstance when all users were active

And I'm pretty sure I was one of the few who didn't care if he switched

It's actually very similar, if not nearly identical. A GM selects a player of whose circumstances they weren't aware of at the time of the select. The activity or inactivity of users doesn't apply to whether the rules are enforced or not. We follow the same rules regardless of how many members we have participating.

It's different because Washington is on a one year suspension. He'll come back. It's a franchise game and Washington will be apart of the franchise.

Stewart may retire. He wouldn't be apart of the franchise.

That's different circumstances. One is one year off vs never playing again.

I guess it doesn't matter since I'm gonna have to stop on Monday anyway because of classes, but still

It's not different because it wasn't ruled based on the suspension. The ruling was made solely on the fact that the selection was made voluntarily and that the homework on the player could've been done before making the selection. The circumstances of Washington had nothing to do with the ruling.

The circumstances were the reason it was brought up at all. Should a player be allowed to repick because of a suspension?

Again, it doesn't really matter since I'll have to stop soon anyway. Just wanted to build the best team I could in the meantime and that's my bad

But, the reason people voted the way they did is because it was just a one year suspension. We have no idea how voting would have been influenced the other way

So much for PaRAYdise being more active lol.  I asked when he wanted to join if he'd be around more often and he said yes.

Greg cossell on Ross tucker today. Saying manziel is good at nothing lol

More importantly saying how awesome my backup mettenberger looked. Very impressed with his anticipation.

No, it was voted on because the homework could've been done, not because of the suspension. rmw10, 52520Andrew, gabefergy and Inqui all commented on the lack of research being the drawback to allowing a re-selection, as did I. Gordo52 and Challenge Accepted consigned on those points.

One of the biggest points brought up was this is a draft a franchise game and it was a one year suspension. People commented on the fact that he'd get back on the field at some point next year and it wouldn't be a career thing.

Actually the retired player issue came up last year as well. I concurr with everyone else. Your just out of luck if the guy retires. A risk a few carry such as Finley.

The first was the main point in favor of the re-selection, but the latter was not. It wasn't a general consensus. The ones who were against the selection were against it purely because the homework could've been made, which holds the same exact weight. You made the selection well before the deadline, meaning that you had the time to do research the prospect.

It's apparently news back from March, so not something readily available or something that pops right up when you type in David Stewart onto Google.

Again, this is still different because one is a suspension (and speaking of homework, that was one of the most heavily covered and readily available stories) and one is possible retirement, and not heavily covered or readily available.

It's a different circumstance. It's fine if I have to stick with the pick because I can't finish anyway (unless we finish by Monday), but it is definitely different in circumstances.

No, it's nearly identical because the information was available and we don't allow re-selections. I just googled David Stewart Titans and one of the first three stories was that he is likely to retire. I've found it relatively easy to find and was readily available. The homework could've been done and wasn't, and we don't allow re-picks. Practically the same exact circumstances.

Does it really matter at this point anyway? You essentially lose a pick, if he retires, but you can pick as many players as you like, and your next pick will be up soon.

It's not fair to make an exception even this late in the game.

I've always hated watching Dwight Freeny being washed out in the run game, but he may have some use as a situational pass rusher. He was better than I expected in San Diego 3-4 defense before going down with an injury and is reportedly feeling healthy. He could provide some spark off the bench during the suspension of his former teammate. Kevin Williams, like Freeny, is significantly past his prime. But he did show some flashes down the stretch of at least being a capable rotational player in 4-3 looks. Both are well over the hill, but I'll take them at this point as my third stringers.

Back to back Packers for me.  Starks certainly has an injury history but he's also my 3rd (4th if you count Sims) option.  The news of Sims injury came a little late so options were limited.  I figured it would be best to build a nice trio to split carries.

Very capable 3rd RB for me in Fred Jackson.  I've always loved the way he played.  He may be old, but he is still productive and can give me some touches each game.  Having 2 good backups allows me to let Vereen fully embrace his role as a receiver as well.

Jackson one of the most underrated players in the nfl.
