Draft a Franchise: Discussion

He better be taken with this pick. It'd be moronic to pass on him.

Agreed. Can't believe he's just sitting there for the taking.

Way to early to go sAfety. You gotta go QB in the first. Carson Palmer is another good guy left

*waves hand*  pay no attention to where I drafted Palmer as a substitute owner last year.

Don't forget a major sleeper in Brock Jensen.  He was snubbed by 32 teams in the draft (finally signed as UDFA by Miami).  We shouldn't make the same mistake as the 32 NFL teams.  He's a winner.  Shouldn't sneak out of the 1st round.

Agreed. He's not making it past pick 27. I'll tell you that much.

Dangit I wanted him at 28.

Let's be honest we don't have a chance at him.

You're probably right, I just hope Kyle Wentworth keeps falling.  Then at least I'll have the Ravens starting QB.

And I wouldn't mind either at 32, I will just have to hope Sanchez makes it to me then

It'd be really tough for me to pass on a player of his caliber.  I'm shocked no one has taken him yet.

I don't mind your Ryan pick either.  I think when you get around this area of QBs, they all struggle with winning the SB if they don't have elite talent surrounding them.

Sure Joe won the SB, but how close did it come to disaster if it weren't for Jacoby Jones returning a kick, Boldin making an unbelievable grab, or Jimmy Smith shutting it down.  Also, Its not like Joe carried the Ravens on his back in 2013 when they were missing a lot of pieces just like Matt Ryan in 2013.  Both had horrid OLs, and were missing pieces down the field.

Each guy has their ups and downs and their pluses and minuses.

Thank you. And I agree about the struggles in earning the Lombardi Trophy without a solid supporting cast.

Flacco deserves a ton of credit for the SuperBowl run. He had one of the best postseason runs of any QB of all time. But I would also echo your sentiment about the other pieces making their mark. Every SuperBowl run, to some degree, is a perfect storm. Our OL found its stride, our WRs stepped up, Dennis Pitta made his presence felt, and our defensive and ST units found the end zone in what ended up being one score contests. Ryan hasn't found much success in the postseason. The offensive talent was there, but there's a difference between our defense allowing just over 17 points per game in 13 postseason games, and theirs allowing just over 30 in their 5 games. Ryan took a step forward in 2012 during the playoffs, and had a solid campaign in 2013 despite having a similar mess to what we witnessed in Baltimore. In terms of where the two currently stand, Flacco certainly gets the nod because of his accomplishments. In terms of moving forward, however, I've seen enough of Ryan from 2012 to give me confidence in him with the proper supporting cast in place. There's a difference between the two judgments. I would've easily went with Flacco had he shown anything similar to the carry over that Aaron Rodgers had after his outlandish postseason. Instead, he took a step back. Most would argue that it occurred in part because of offensive and defense inefficiencies, which is a logical notion. But if we reach the conclusion that our failures were a byproduct of the team in a team sport, then the same right should be granted to others. Anything else would be conscious bias. I've never been a fan of assessing QBs by their team's success. Sure they play a more significant part than other positions, but it's an overly simplistic rubric that willfully ignores the aspect of this being a team sport.

Agreed once again. I see both QBs having the tools to be franchise caliber QBs, but both aren't without their strengths or flaws.

Went with Stafford. Had to secure a franchise QB for my team. For all his inconsistencies and weird throwing motion.  Stafford is imo a capable franchise QB with his best years in front of him. At this time, all the QB's will have pluses and minuses. But Stafford has all the potential to put up big numbers and be a dynamic QB for my team.

Pick is in.

Went with Tannehill, and I'm actually surprised he was still there. I think he's going to be very good if the Dolphins OL (or rather, the lack thereof) doesn't put him at risk of becoming the next David Carr. Or Jim Everett. Or whoever.

And he has a hot wife. :P

Sorry for the hold up guys.

Went with RGIII for a couple of reasons; felt he had the highest upside, potential Franchise QB and mercurial talent. I realise the risk with him, but at this point all of the Quarterbacks, especially young ones, are going to have a question mark or three.

I also took him in the Draft game three years ago as Cleveland. He's one of my guys.

True but I think #[vulgarity removed] will be there for you and I know you showed a lot of interest

Some reaches on qbs just for the sake of having one

Yup. But remember last year? Good luck on that Hoyer-Johnson connection.

Damn, well if there is any solace, at least Blake Bortle's girl is still on the board.

With the QB's I wanted off the board, I went with the 23 year old pass rusher who completely dominated the NFL last year with 19 sacks, 21 QB hits, 51 total hurries and 7 forced fumbles. Quinn's an elite pass rusher and above average run stopper who will be the face of my defense for the next 10 years.

Double damn.  Yes, nice pick. Still might have gone QB with where you're sitting.  But Quinn was the non-QB player I was hoping would make it to 30.  @ 23 years of age, he is a great addition.
