Ozzie Retirement Speculation?

70 posts in this topic

I don't doubt that he will retire by the time Flacco is done with his career.  The one constant this team has had player wise is Ray Lewis.  He had been on the team since the beginning.  Ozzie helped create this team from scratch and last year was the first time since our inception that we have had a completely different Roster.

The entire team has changed and now that Ray and Ed are gone, the regulars are players such as Suggs who were drafted more recently.  By the time Flacco is gone this will be a new team altogether.  I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie leaves before that.  It's like BB and Tom Brady.  Once Brady retires BB will probably go with him.

It's a whole new team and Ozzie has been doing this for awhile.  Eventually the monotony of constantly replacing players and filling holes takes it's toll. I think about this as a fan sometimes as well.  The team I rooted for in 2000 was not the team I rooted for in 2012 besides Ray Lewis.  Ray Lewis is so big that it still felt like the same team.  Our big names will eventually leave or retire and need to be replaced by more big names.

Webb comes to mind, Jimmy, and Torrey.  A few years ago these guy were just college guys and Webb seemed like an average player.  The turnover is huge.

If brady retires within the next two years, i think BB stays in the league a little longer. i say BB doesn't retire for at least another 5 years, lookin for one more SB.

True.  I could see him taking on Mallett as a project especially with how hyped up the kid is.

I think they move past Mallett. For all the hype, he has like one more contract year. i think they draft brady's replacement this year.

Maybe thats why eric DeCosta didnt leave for the dolphins..maybe he knew his time was coming soon

He didn't leave because he got PAID. He knows he's up next regardless of when Ozzie decides to hang it up.

Not a direct answer, but this does sound a bit more promising than those comments the other day...

In this article it does sound somewhat like Oz wants to continue, which leads the reader to believe he's being shown the door.

It's time. Oz isn't picking them like he use to.

Time for new Blood.

How the hell does anything in that article indicate to you that he's being shown the door?

I'm just gonna put a neg where I feel appropriate lol

For conversational purposes, nowhere does it hint at him being shown the door. Glad to see he still enjoys what he does for the team.

Read the last sentence of the article.  It's true.  Ozzie has overseen this organization since it's advent in '96 and it has resulted in the best playoff winning percentage (.667, 14-7) in the NFL since the introduction of the new free agency era.  That's basically the bottom line.  Ozzie can stay till he's good and ready to go.
