Purple Punishment

For The Men Of This Forum

23 posts in this topic

Something is going on in my life and I want to pass a message to the men on this forum. PLEASE PLEASE be sure to do a self examination of your testicles on a monthly basis.

I found a small lump the other day and am now waiting to see a Urologist. It's a very scary situation that I'm dealing with at the moment. There are many things that the lump could be but the fact is, there's a lump there that I wouldn't have found without doing a self examination. Some may laugh or throw a joke out there about this, but please take a few minutes to check yourself out. You owe it to yourself and your families. Be well guys and thanks for reading.

I found out about a year ago that I have a lump on mine as well. I was really scared and was reluctant to tell anyone. I eventually told my girlfriend at the time and she convinced me to tell my mom and make an appointment to get it checked out. Thank God it turned out to be nothing, its really important to have someone to talk to through it. Let me know if I could help in anyway. Best of luck buddy.

A little off topic but my family has a long history with cancer which prompted me at age 30 to switch to a vegan and alkalyzing diet, I miss eating meat but it's carcinogenic due to metabolic byproducts and so far my mind and body has never been clearer. Obviously it's not a cure for cancer but vegans have a far lower rate and live longer. Heres a prime example, a NCI funded Loma Linda University study showed that healthy omnivores (who eat substantially less meat than the general population) are 34% more likely to get female specific cancer than vegan women.

I never used to be afraid of anything but now I'm engaged with a young daughter and I want to be around for 50+ years.

With all that said Purple Punishment I wish you well and statistically speeaking your chances are very good, i'll be taking your advice for regular checks.

I have no testicles, but your advice also applies to women, just in a higher area. Hope everything is okay with you and it's something totally benign.

Also, to add to this, earlier detection = higher cure rates, so I'm gonna cosign your advice.

Like MissK528, I'm going to hijack this thread too. ;) My father died of prostate cancer at a relatively young age because he was too stubborn (he never would have said that) to go to the doctor for annual check-ups. By the time his prostate cancer was detected, it had spread. He died within a year. Didn't mean to scare you. Just wanted to say that I'm glad you are taking the initiative. If my dad had done that, who knows. I hope everything comes out clean! :)

Ok, backing out of locker room now. ;)

Hope everything checks out for you, Punishment. My mother in law is going through her fight with Breast Cancer, so checking yourself out is definitely important to both sexes. Sometimes you don't think twice about things like checking for lumps until it affects someone you love. A terrible wake up call, but that's what it takes sometimes I guess.

Any update?

Yes, I saw the urologist about 2 weeks ago. The lump I was feeling is a group of vessels that at one point or time experienced trauma. The vessels hardened up in reaction and I just never noticed. I will still be looking every month.

I thank all of you for your very kind words.

I'm glad to hear everything turned out well.  Most definitely keep checking regularly.

Awesome about your news Purple! You are also correct about getting the news out about monthly exams.

Even if you may be a teenager, it's time to get to know the topography down south so you know what may be an anomaly and have it checked out! It could save your life

19 years ago my brother thought 'he busted a nut' and was grumping to my husband who was an Army medic and PA. My husband rode his butt to have it checked out because he had unusual swelling and it was getting worse. He went to the doctor who scheduled the biopsy within a week.

The urologist said the biopsy was positive and scheduled surgery 10 days later, he took the affected testicle and a bunch of lymph nodes, one of the nodes was positive and the testicle was full of cancerous cells, but the other one was ok. Because my brother was mid twenties they were super agressive with chemo and radiation, it was a rough 3 months. They suggested I stay away because of my high risk pregnancy, which was really hard to do. I used to give my dad a list of things to ask and check with, always the nurse lol

The one funny thing the urologist offered was a prosthetic teste and the grief he takes with names, which I would get in trouble posting here lol.

My house full of boys have been taught to check themselves from ten on and mom sometimes embarrasses the crap out of them reminding and their buddies.

My brother has been 18 years cancer free even though the bozo still smokes.

I'm not gonna lie, when this thread originally started, I was unbelievably tempted to post the Tom Green PSA song after his go with testicular cancer. Figured I might get in some trouble for it, even though it's relevant and a catchy reminder.

I get why the NFL does the breast cancer awareneess in October... but why not prostate cancer awareness in September (yes, that's the official month for it) and start with each season with "baby blue"?

My mom died of an orphan cancer of the mesentary, and a lot of her meds were experimental, oh the paperwork my dad had to go through-- she was Dx in Jan. and died 12/28/2010 and the really sad thing is side effects of chemo are what killed her. I miss her everyday and have called my dad and almost asked to speak to mom several times.

Ya know if this thread convinces a guy to go to the doctor or to check himself, a good deed has been done by Purple Punishment you have done well.
