Ravens sign RB Justin Forsett

61 posts in this topic

Meh...

What would have been wrong in waiting on the market for the recently released CJ2K?

I think Ozzie knew it wasn't worth going for CJ2K. Other teams would be interested in him and he'd want more money.

Good signing...Forsett has a career average of 5 yards per carry, and has some special teams experience too. Quality depth player.

Exactly.  Not every signing can be a superstar.  These veteran minimum depth signings can really pay huge dividends.

I think they are preparing the Team for a R. Rice suspension. Draft a RB and we should have a good battle for the starting position in pre-season!

Agreed I think Rice gets suspended for 4 games. Were going to draft a bigger back in the mid to late rounds, but signing Forsett gives us a guy to share the load with Pierce while Rice is gone. He averaged 5.9 YPC in Houston and we can return kicks too which is a nice addition.

I think that this is setting the table for a trade up in the draft.

No it's just Ozzie filling holes before the draft so he can draft BPA he does this every off-season. I could see us moving up in the 2nd maybe to grab Jimmie Ward before teams grab him, but I see us at 17 taking Martin. We have yet to get another OT and Martin will be there for us at 17. He's also a top talent IMO, but he's in a crowded OT class. Very rare to see 3 OT's like there are in this draft and then there be Martin who is the 4th rated tackle. In another class he would go top 10 for sure.

If anything happens to Rice via suspension....its Bernard Pierces starting job, I think we will expect him to carry the load of a 20-25 carries per game in Rice's absence.  He seems to be coming along well after his surgery so Im eager to see what he can do as a starter. Forsett and anyone else (potential draft pick) will just be rotational or depth players behind Pierce.

Not an Exciting pick up, but fllls our need of depth at RB. I expect him to be a decent change of pace back. Smart signing.

Seems like this might be an underrated signing. With Rice possibly suspended and Pierce injury prone, they should still draft a RB. I'm hoping for Terrance West.

we need to draft a Jamal Lewis type RB, i'm pretty sure Rice will b suspended and Pierce  is a injury magnet.

just because we made these signings doesn't guarantee they will on the roster in game 1, they're will draft , training camp, pre-season, and cuts , so the roster is not set yet, so people calm down.

Who we should have picked up was Blount from the Patriots.

Now the Steelers have two very physical backs and we have ,well none.

Pierce can be but can he stay healthy?

Were going to draft a big back in the draft. We just got Forsett to provide some depth and familiarity with the system while Rice is suspended. He can also help out on ST if we ever need him too. He played in Houston and is most comfortable in a ZBS and who knows he could have a monster year if he stays healthy.

I always liked him. Even at Cal. Hits hole quick and is a one cut runner. Perfect for ZBS. Averages 4.9 yards per carry. Not a 20 carry back but good For a few series. I like this move. Offers a different element.

Well on my Madden Connected Franchise the Patriots signed him during an off-season and he lead the league in rushing yards...

Is everyone just focusing on his limited time in Houston? Because Last year he had only had like 6 carries and 15 receptions before he ended up on injured reserve(foot). Can he be a load carrier for the Ravens this year?

Is it bad luck? Maybe.

Forsett has been nothing but a backup his whole carreer. I'm hoping the Ravens survive the potential Rice suspension time with Pierce and Forsett intact.

That's because he had turf toe and just had an injury plagued season. You have to remember the guy weighs 198 lbs and its 5'9 he's not going to be your Rice where he can do everything. Him with Pierce/our draft pick will be a nice combo and I think in that aspect we will get the best our of Forsett. If he does prove he can get 10-15 touches a game though, I think he can be an absolute steal for us.

People around here are acting like Pierce has his own room at shock trauma or his dad was a Faberge egg.

Are you suggesting that isn't true?

Seems obvious that he is suggesting that it isn't true… And he would be right, too.

I will do more than suggest.

I will state in FACT, Bernard Pierce DOES NOT have his own room at Shock Trauma nor was his father a Faberge egg.

Forsett is also a solid receiver out of the back field, i remember his catching quite a few passes in Seattle a while back. Pending the Rice situation, Forsett could prove to be one of those key signings no one expected to be key.
