Is Flacco FINALLY gaining respect from the media? This is weird

324 posts in this topic

By virtue of being a successful franchise QB, Joe deserves his place on the top 100. Joe falls in that category of being on a successful team but contributing only average stats. He's gut-wrenching to love and easy for the media to dis. The only regular season 'record' he holds is being consistently average. We have the makings of a very good team this season, I sure hope he steps-up his game from last year. We need you Joe to just be average!

I was trying to list top 10 QBs in the league, it gets tough after 6 but I think Flacco would be in it. Not sure if that is a testament to how "good" he is or how bad that there are 22 teams with question marks. Bottom line, we have a franchise QB who isn't on his way out and can win us a few games along the way.

I've been thinking about the same thing; perhaps you noticed my post ahead of yours. Using ESPN stats, I looked at Total QB rating (QBR) and Passer rating (RAT) and in each case Joe ends up in the mid to high teens, nowhere near top 10 numbers. NFL stats such as completion %, yards, TDs, rate, all shout middle of the pack.

I've always said there are 10 good QBs, 10 bad, & 12 in the middle and Joe has half the pack to climb over reach the 10 good QBs.

Interpreting the numbers is all just my opinion and there are plenty of varying opinions. Joe can get hot but I don't think he'll ever be top tier.

Go Ravens

Cutler, Ryan, Kaep, Romo got more guaranteed money than Flacco and if I'm not mistaken, only one of those guys has a Super Bowl. Top 100 .. Top 10 QB's whatever the list may be ... I'll take Joe.

I think Flacco has more playoff victories than all those dudes combined. Kaep is doing the best with 5.

You're right about the guaranteed money, but imo you need to separate player from team and evaluate accordingly.

Flacco hate resuming?  Everything's right in the world then.

Things were getting too chummy around here anyway. About time the Flacco hate came back.

That's not getting respect from the media, though. That list is made by the players. The media immediatelly started to complain about it.

You're absolutely right....and things are back to normal now.

I like how they are complaining that this means either Cam Newton, Foles or Kaepernick did not make the list because of Flacco, because all three of them are far better QBs. LOL!

Honestly, I think if you make the top 10 list, we know who the top four are, and spots 5 - 10, well, they are pretty much all interchangeable. I don't feel that any QB currently is the clear #5...you can make strong arguments any of those guys.

I guess it also depends on your criteria....is it strictly talent, career accomplishments, stats, etc...

That's what all of these "lists" whether from fans, players or media are all about!  All of us have different "criteria's" for what makes at top 10 QB and therefore, there will NEVER be any real agreement on where one of them is ranked....even for our boy Joe Flacco.  Some feel he is ranked too high, others feel he is ranked too low and some....well...they don't even think that he should be on the list whatsoever!

No doubt, Flacco is one tough person to rank, if you are into that sort of thing...unless you're a stat guy, then he is just another QB.

Personally, I would have put him in the 90s on that top 100 list. I recall whining incessantly that seven of those INTs thrown last year were completely and totally not his fault.....but that still means he threw 15 picks that WERE all on him. Then there are all the other factors to consider, etc...

I want to see one more year of Luck before crowning him number 5 officially. I need to see more of RG3, Kaep, Wilson and Foles too.

Hah, true! At least we waited till Flacco got at least 20 regular season wins before gave him all that loot .. (Kaep only has 17).

When Flacco got his contract the media went psycho. His contract isn't even top 5 anymore. Guys who don't have anywhere near his playoff wins , consistency, and of course a SB ring are getting paydays a-lot bigger. I'm glad Flacco got his contract when he did. Kaep has only played 1 full year and is getting 61mil. guaranteed.

Foles is the real dark horse here. Talent wise, he is pretty average. But he is a smart kid, good vision and protects the ball. In that system, he could become a great player.

On the other hand, his system and the guys around him really did him a lot of favors. He doesn't seem to be a guy who can succeed wherever you put him, as you could with Luck and Flacco.

Should be interesting to see how he develops.

My over/under is three games until this guy gets his own cult following.

"In that system" meaning Chip Kelly's innovative offense and the #1 pass protecting OL? Foles was put in a ridiculously easy spot with Lesean McCoy, Desean Jackson and Riley Cooper having a monster year. He also had the benefit of scoring a few TDs that bounced off of defenders. We'll never see that season from him again.

Yep, exactly. lol...but he still did a great job out there

So... in the denver game, Joe read the safety and threw the ball for a thouchdown. That makes him a bad quarterback how? Kaep just made bank over joe butin that situation, instead of making the read, he would have just taken off and ran. There's a reason why when they faced each other in the super bowl, one came away with an mvp and the other didn't.

The media just isn't interested in the Ravens and in many ways I feel like they consider us to be "in the way" of Manning, Brady or Luck (the guys they love the most). We're pretty much the San Antonio Spurs of football. No one wants to see us anymore, but we just won't go away, constantly proving other people's expectations wrong. Let's hope Joe ends up being the QB version of Tim Duncan. :D

Love that analogy. The Spurs have been the best franchise in sports for the last 15 years, but nobody talks about them. We are similar in a lot of ways. I think the lack of media coverage is ultimately a good thing.

Exactly!  And with Joe, those other factors with his game play are things that keep him from being viewed as a top 10 QB in the eyes of many players in the league, the media and even among fans.

All those guys are better than Flacco.  Flacco is tenth in the league at best.

:268213: ...... thats what you're doing. You're crazy if you think those guys are better than Flacco right now.

Flacco's game was totally hampered by an inept offensive scheme. But somehow, Flacco made it work. I will go so far as to say that I think MOST of the starting QB's in the league would fail running Cam Cameron's offense in 201X. A lot of these good QB are a product of good offensive schemes that create mismatches and holes in zones so huge a JV QB could hit the open man. Why do you think Flacco's throws look so unbelievable, but other QB's completions look so pedestrian and intermediate. Flacco's throw's have to be amazing because they are often low percentage throws. Crazy thing is, he nails them. And he is even better once he gets let loose to make something happen. His clutch-ness is no coincidence.

Out of that list, Wilson impresses me the most, then Luck though.

how can anyone say foles after one year is better than anyone. Foles can't be placed against vets, its too early. Otherwise you'd have to rank him as the best qb in the league based on that seasob.

Rg3 is far to injury prone to even break my top 15 let alone 10. Kap is meh, relies to much on his feet, don't think he can carry you if you stop him running.

RB you got to be kidding man!  No way is RG3 (and I like him) or Kaep better than Flacco man!  Luck and Wilson look good though.

Man I really hate the media. Why can't they see what the Ravens family has seen from Day !?

I seriously fell in love with Joe when he scrambled for 38 yards and scored against the Bengals in his first game.
