Is Flacco FINALLY gaining respect from the media? This is weird

324 posts in this topic

I think he is referring to the postseason. During the regular season, he will usually come up in clutch time. Just looks like a different person in January

I understand....Like Alge Crumpler was saying on the radio... I can easily say.... If Harry Douglas dont sleep on the turf monster  vs the  49ers... We make it to the superbowl ... If you have nfl rewind.. Its at the ver end of that game...

I get it ... I fully understand  Bill Polian comments

``I think he’s a Super Bowl (win) away from being elite,’’ Polian said recently. ``He’s very close.’’

``I like his release, I like his arm strength, I like his accuracy, I like his touch,’’ Polian said. ``I like his poise. I like his ability to extend plays. And I like his toughness.’’

He does need to win the big one... But ppl who watched the games know it wasnt Matt holding us back ..... CLEARLY is Dalton holding the Bengals back.... CLEARLY

I would take Marlon Brown over Harry Douglas.... If you watched our games.. you would agree..... Im not saying HD is bad..He is a solid slot guy ... im a falcon fan and will support our players... But if you was a falcon fan you would understand how impressed i am Ryan got HD to 1000 yards ...He is not a #1 or #2 guy ....The fact that he was our number one guy most games last year...

The end of that 49ers game...... Still get to me...That happen 3  times with him in that important moment last year.

I like Harry as a guy but he is a solid #3... I think Marlon Brown can be a #2 .... I liked him at GA but he had that injury

I think Marlon has higher potential to develop into a better player, but last year Douglass was better.

Matt isn't holding you guys back, but he not going to push you over the top like a Rodgers/Manning/Bree/Brady. Nothing against Matt, but I doubt he ever gets to the SB. The Atlanta FO mortgaged their future for Julio Jones and only got one playoff win out of it.  The team around him isn't going to be good enough. Tampa, NO, and Carolina are all rising while the Falcons are falling.

Marlon was hurt a lot last year as well as having a rookie transition. He should be a great player, but Douglass played well last year. I'd probably take marlon this year, Douglass last year.

i disagree but i respect your opinion ... People dont get how many injurys we had .. both starting WR's ... starting RB .. starting RT... Starting LT ... Starting DE ... Starting LB's ... zeke motta our 7th round safety starting some games...We had to start 2  UDFA at LB starting  ... We was starting 5-7 rookies last year some games .

Those injuries were blessinga and a curse... Th curse was the year we had... The blessing is it actually helped us grow some

I agree the Bucs gotten better... I also feel we have too ... How has the Panthers gotten better.. They lost there best CB and Safety and top 3 WR's and there probowl LT .... To me the saints lost there wild card in Darrren Sporles but as long as they have brees ... They are in the hunt

I dont think ppl that keeps up with our team understand the injuries we had ... I also dont think the Julio set us back at all... What set us back is injuries, our position coach developing our young guys (they felt more comfortable with vets) , and our GM miss assessment on the readiness of our young O-line... They wasnt developed right so last year guys like Holmes and Konz were thrown to the wolves man... Those guys are 2nd and 3rd round picks......

We had guys.... Those guys just didnt step up.... Wasnt ready for that job ... Thats why we have new O-Line and D-Line coaches.... We have been screaming this  for years... Our trench guys development.

To the OP... Im glad Flacco is getting his props

Look, the team around Ryan is significantly worse than before. Even with his best teams, Ryan usually flamed out in the first round of the playoffs. Last year was hell for you guys and I expect at least around .500 and competition from the Falcons, but its going to be tough to get to the playoffs in that division. Its like the Rams in the NFC West. The Rams are an AFC playoff team but are bottom of the division in the NFC West.

Panthers got an amazing Front 7 and are young overall. Saints also have one of the best safety tandems in the league with Byrd and Vaccaro as well as a top 10 O and top 10 D.

I dunno man. If we are comparing their ceilings, then heck yeah, Marlon all the way. But Douglas is far more refined than Marlon is at this point.

Can I have regular season Matt Ryan and post season Joe Flacco?

Considering regular season Matt Ryan misses the postseason about half the time, I'd just as soon stick with what we have.

You do know we went 9-7 in the other year we didnt make the playoffs (09) ... But yall did with the same record .... So yall would have still made the playoffs....Plus 2 of our losses came because ryan missed those games because of broken toes.

Just saying facts my good sir

Both teams didnt have the years they should this past year.

I'm not a huge Ryan hater like some, but bringing up his injury history when comparing him to Flacco probably isn't the best argument.

"Broken toes" is an interesting way of saying turf toe.

Your a worse ryan suck up than any flacco guy on this board

The Atlanta guy seems fair and balanced to me.  I can't say that for the other side of the debate.

Don't know what Ryan is doing in this thread. Media darling from day one & no one makes more excuses for him when he sucks more than the media themselves.

I don't see how people can say that he's not a worse Ryan apologist when he's on a Ravens board arguing for Matt Ryan in a Joe Flacco thread

Not sure how the venue has anything to do with it. Either way, I was sorta kidding and really dont care at all.

Because he's coming onto a totally unrelated thread to make excuses for Ryan, but I didn't point you out specifically, so chill

That's a lie (you not caring) because you're replying this thread and to me

Ha, okay.

You wouldn't reply if you didn't care. Simple as that.

Back on topic, I don't think Flacco is getting respect so much as people just realize a quarterback can't do it all alone. If that's an abstract form of respect, I'll take it, but I want to hear he's a top 10 quarterback before I call it respect

Perhaps. But the question is why did it take six years for them to acknowledge that when it comes to Flacco, yet they bring that up all day long when it comes to their 'favorites'?

Interesting thing is, even the shock jocks like Dukes did a complete 180 and was talking about when a team spends $100M on a QB, they need to protect their investment and give him something to work with. He even laughed about how Cincy is always trying to put as much weapons as they can around a mediocre QB like Dalton, yet Flacco has had next to nothing most of his career in comparison to other QBs.

I'm going by what the team eventually said the injury was... Coach said he was shocked he came back before the season ended... broken or dislocated toes ... Your choice

Im tapping out on this subject tho... Just had to say something...The thread is about Flacco getting his props.... And he should

The only thing Joe does better the Matt is being clutch at the end of the games.

However this is the only reason I need to take him over Ryan in a redraft.

Ok, rant time.

My opinion on Flacco has changed over the past month. I still think he's a very good QB who's been there and done that. People who say he's "marginally talented" or "overrated" have no idea what they are talking about. But I can see why they think that. He was terrible last season at times, and for the one or two games he did look good, it wasn't the best we've ever seen him. He had his worst season since his rookie year, which is saying a lot. Sure, a ton of it had to do with the supporting cast, seeing as with a semi decent supporting cast(a mediocre oline, and some good but not great options at WR), he went super sayan 4 and won a SB. Basically because he willed it. Let's face it, Boldin may have taken it to another level in the postseason, but there are several other WRs I would trust over him.

Nevertheless, we missed Boldin, and that made things harder for Flacco, and while he still would've had his worst season ever without him, we would've made the playoffs if not for our "offensive line".

Now, I still think he was worth $120 million. If you win a SB, and it's bc of you, you've proven you deserved it.

But Flacco proved one thing, he's not elite. You know what, that's ok. I see two elite QBs in this game. Peyton(who gets a bad wrap), and Rodgers. Those two are easily the two best QBs in the game. Brady proved to me that he was more of a "system kind of guy"(which Joe was called by our own Ray Lewis last season). He SUCKED, and made the postseason based off of playing a crap division. The only other potential elite QB in the NFL is Andrew Luck, who'd I take over Flacco in a heartbeat.

Then what is Flacco? Unlucky. That's what he is. He deserves a bad media wrap, he's inconsistent as all hell. However, he has proven one thing. If the game is on the line, then he's gonna kick butt. Or it's an important game, then he's gonna dominate. This is shown by his clutch level of play in the playoffs. He turns into a different player because he understands it's all or nothing. And I've seen Joe Flacco blow a game maybe once or twice.

Far as I'm concerned, there are three tiers of QBs

Elite(Rodgers, Manning)

Second Tier, meaning good enough to win a SB(Brees, Brady, Ben, Rivers, Flacco, Wilson, Romo, Eli, Luck, Cutler, Kaepernick, Ryan)

And then there's everyone else, who's either unproven(Newton, RG3, Tannehil who gets a bad wrap) or just plain old bad/overrated(Stafford is the perfect example of this, Dalton, Palmer)

So as far as QBs go? Flacco is good. We ain't going to replace him, and he will be here for a long time. Is he elite? No, but that's not a bad thing. He's proven he can go out an win a SB. That isn't a fluke. If Evans doesn't drop the pass we at least GET there. If you can get there, it's 50-50 that you can win. So then alone Flacco proved he can win a SB.

But I think what gets the "Flacco lovers" is the lack of respect he gets from our own fanbase. Basic economics dictates that he was worth the money. Supply and demand in the NFL. You need a franchise QB to win a SB. A team without one and with the cap space, would've paid him something similar to what he got($120 million... That should damn the "he wasn't worth the money he got").

He's good enough to win a SB. All you should care about if your a fan, and that's good enough for me.

I was with you all the way, until you said "Luck is the only other potential elite QB" other than Peyton and Rodgers. Dear god SAM....
