Bleacher Report Cornerback Rankings

27 posts in this topic

I had a feeling this list would be bad just because of how bad the quarterback list was. As a whole, this series is a joke, but this might be the worst one yet. I haven't decided.

Here is the list

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/1444334-br-nfl-1000-2013-top-100-cornerbacks

The first Raven on the list is Jimmy Smith at like 72(?). That in and of itself is a joke when you consider Jimmy had a stretch of like 12 or 13 games where he gave up less than 2 receptions per game, was ranked top 10 in snaps per target, and top 10 on yards per snap allowed. He gets knocked for his ball skills, but if it weren't for Webby having six pass deflections in one game, wouldn't Jimmy have led the team? His two interceptions were also textbook on how to play the ball. Should easily be ranked 40 or 50 spots higher.

I also find it laughable that they have Graham as the Ravens best corner. He was the three for a reason.

I also hate how they didn't break down the coverage between zone and man, but that would knock Sherman off the top spot, and they can't have that. Doesn't Revis also follow the best receiver, or did he not in Tampa? I know Sherman plays over 90% of his snaps on the left and probably about that percentage in press man.

The list as a whole is flawed and bad, but the Jimmy rating bothers me the most m

The one you linked to was the 2013 edition, here's 2014

edit - Webb's at 34, Graham is 23, Smith is at 78 (LOL)

Needs to be said, as always, this is proudly brought to you by bleacherreport

Thanks for the catch. I'm not sure how Jimmy Smith moved down three years in a row despite having his best season as a pro. Little confusing.

It's bleacherreport. No other explanation is necessary.

It's a wonder that some of them do in fact get paid

I still maintain that bleacher report has improved tremendously from 4 years ago.

But this list is awful.  Morris Claiborne isn't even a starter.

How is WIlliam Gay 22... and Corey Graham is ahead of both corners he started over

I thought he was, too, but apparently he played nickel corner a fair amount

Matt Miller must not have watched the Detroit game.

That was actually my first thought, I just forgot to write it in there because I was so shocked

Maybe they actually got confused who was who on our team. Who knows? That still doesn't make up for this garbage as a whole, though.

About as confusing as having his backup in the top 20 range yet Jimmy who was flat out dominant for basically all of 2013 except for a couple games is (technically) by far the worst starting corner in the league if they're gonna rank him around 80. It's obvious the guy who ranked the players never watched a football game.

Matt Miller needs to stick to the draft

Or maybe he should watch more than one game.

I remember someone said they prewrite these lists in the preseason and just use them at the end of the year. If that were true, he'd only watched the Falcons game

Once again this is the same guy that ranked Darren Sproles the #1 rb a year or two ago.

Bleacher report is the little mentally challenged brother of sports media.

I just notice that article is dated 4-3-2013, which means it's rankings before this past season. Lol.

Wow found the 2014 article. And I'm baffled at the Jimmy smith ranking totally. He played very well last year in some games he played better than Webb.

They certainly gave Graham some love. Along with the Giants corners.

Dude it's bleacherreport. It's a bunch of hacks that play madden and only watch their favorite team's games and act like they actually know football. It's ok to go there for news but the opinion pieces are absolute garbage. Don't even give them the time of day, the fact that we are even discussing that list gives it more validity then it deserves.
