Rumors of gang violence too

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10688873/desean-jackson-released-philadelphia-eagles

Jackson stunning departure from Philadelphia comes just two years after he signed a five-year contract extension. He was due to make $10.5 million in 2014 and was owed $30.5 million over the remainder of his deal, but none of that money was guaranteed.

Recent reports surfaced that the Eagles were looking to trade Jackson.

Jackson, 27, set career bests in receptions (82) and yards (1,332) and tied his career high with nine touchdowns last season, his first under new coach Chip Kelly.

Anyone know the reason? I can't believe the Eagles would cut him without a back story; I doubt it would be the 10 mil they owe him, he's worth that to them. He fit in perfectly with Kelleys offense, as his numbers last year would justify.

Gang violence? I don't believe it. He seemed like he was being sincere when he said he wasn't involved. He always seemed like a good guy, I won't believe it until theres some kind of evidence.

People mentioned the gang associations as a possibility.  The other is that Chip Kelly obviously had issues with Jackson's demeanor and work ethic - missing team meetings, maybe not going as hard as Kelly thought he should be in practice. I think ultimately what this comes down to is 1) Chip Kelly doesn't think Jackson fits in with the identity he's trying to create, and 2) Kelly doesn't think Jackson is special enough to look the other way.  Ultimately I think Kelly's ego has a lot to do with this as well - he thinks his system is better than any one player, and he doesn't want a 10K dollar receiver on the roster to prove him otherwise.

I wonder where he'll land. Broncos? Jets? Pats? 49ers? I think he's from Cali so I hope it's not 49ers. That would be Crabtree, Boldin, and Jackson on a top tier team. I know we don't need a WR but I'd take him for a season. That would be Torrey, Smitty, Jackson, and Pitta...dangerous. I know there will be people who say we just got Smith, re-signed Jones, and have other needs... To that I say this is a once-in-every-10 year opportunity. He is a proven top playmaker in the league...similar to T.O. when we almost got him from San Fran... Ozzie saw that rare opportunity then but will he see it now. Or some may say this is not fantasy football... to that I say, tell that to the Broncos. Or some may say he's a thug. Well, I'll say this, I don't condone bad behavior but as far as I know he's not a thug and to my knowledge he hasn't been in trouble. Not everyone should be judged by the company they keep especially if they, themselves, haven't been in trouble with the law or a menace to society. And even if he had been, we are known to give guys second chances like S. Rolle, D. Stallworth, T. Suggs, R. Lewis, J. Lewis, etc. But again, as far as I know, Jackson hasn't been in trouble with the law... just thinking out loud... I just don't want to hear tomorrow that he's a Bronco or 49er.

apparently, the Eagles weren't too happy with him flashing gang signals in the face of DeAngelo Hall in the Skins game last year. And blaming certain "associates" for his lack of work ethic and missing meetings. Felt those "associations" were a bad influence on their younger players.

The $ weren't the only reason other teams took a pass.

I just think Chip Kelly went to the Eagles top brass and said if I can make Riley Cooper productive in my system after riding the bench for 3 years then we don't need one receiver sucking up $10 million...that's 2-4 quality players at other positions of need. With that said, there will be an organization that will absolutely take a chance on him and give him the guidance and proper counselling this young man appears to need.

Chip Kelly's about to get his NFL wake up call. This isn't college you can't just plug people in and get results. They play a first placed schedule this year. Every NFL team has had an offseason to scout and look up the game film on him. He just lost his best receiver which will clog up the space that DeSean gave them. He'll be fired after this year or next depending on how they do.

He will end up in Carolina, or Oakland, maybe even the Bengals. Those are the teams with plenty of cap room and would take on his problems.

Dude an investigator called the Eagles because they found Jackson had connections with some people involved in a killing.

He has also been photographed on numerous occasions throwing up gang signs..DURING GAMES. Dude is trash.

Patriots will some how sign him. You just watch. They love the thugs.

I bet they stay well away from Jackson after the Hernandez incident.  It would look very bad for them to sign Jackson less than one year after that.

Even though he helped me win $800 in a fantasy football championship, I cannot stand this punk. Gang affiliated or not, he still fits that definitive descriptor. Good luck to whatever team winds up with this headache, maybe he won't drop a TD before he goes across the goalline foe his next team because of his big head.

Even if you take out his supposed off-field problems, I still don't want him in purple (ok, that's not entirely true as I don't really care if he joins the Vikings :P ). He'll be too expensive for something we already have in Torrey and Jacoby, and he'll just waste a roster spot on a potential 10-year guy from this year's draft.

My pick's on him joining the Panthers anyway. They'll probably get him a backloaded three- or four-year deal or something to that effect.

I hear what you're saying but Jackson is way better than Jones as a receiver. We have Steve but at 35 y/o how long will he be productive? Jackson is in his prime with a chip(kelly) on his shoulder. Torrey, Jackson, & Smith short term and Torrey, Jackson, & Brown long term. Keep Jones for his bread and butter... kick and punt returns. Again, just thinking out loud for the sake of argument... wishful thinking... Btw, he just might end up a Panther, though they did just get rid of Smitty partly because they want to hand the leadership to Cam. They may not want to bring this "type" of player especially since he's a vet compared to Cam... but you never know. What about the Seahawks? They evidently have the money since they were going to pay Jared Allen. Can you imagine Desean Jackson, Percy Harvin, and Beastmode with Russell Wilson at the helm and the Legion of Boom on the opposite side... look out for Seahawks grabbing Jackson. Plus they obviously don't have a problem with players with "issues", just look at all their suspended players in the past few years.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Eagles trade up for Beckham or go after Cooks.

I've heard that they have displayed interest in Cooks.

Could also see Jackson going to 49ers, Cardinals or Bucaneers. Even though red apparently isn't his color lol

Riley Cooper is caught on tape spewing racist comments and he's rewarded with a contract extension. DeJax has "alleged" gang ties and he's cut?? That makes sense.

If it's true that Reid and the Chiefs are interested in DJax, that would speak volumes to me because Reid knows first hand how much of a head case he can be, and he still thinks his play making ability is worth it?  That would re-emphasize my theory that the Eagles getting rid of him is a bad move.

Wasn't just gang stuff, it was also his attitude.

He'd make the perfect deep threat complement to Alex Smith.

That'd be a waste then cuz Alex Smith can't throw deep.

That's what I was having a dig at. They'd make a lethal combo on those 10-yard bombs.
