Ravens get 3rd round, 2 4ths and a 5th in comp picks

127 posts in this topic

I think we could've gotten more than 4 if 4 wasn't the max. We signed all cut players and let a lot of FAs leave.

Now, with the addition of Zuttah as a center, we should go into the draft with more high round picks than needs.

Yeah we all thought it was a 2015 7th rounder but then that all happened. There are some people still who think we have the pick this year so it really is more to clear the confusion than anything else.

Oh, absolutely.  My "LOL" wasn't meant at you, but the characterization that the team had said anything.

Incredible.  When everything fails, you can at least count on football in bmore to get you through the day.    This is a CLASS A organization.   They just never stop bringing good news.

What's insane is the fact no one would have traded a 3rd round pick for Kruger before we let him walk.  Then we go around and flip his giant contract for a 1 down player into (albeit) a 3rd rounder.

No matter how much it looks like they're about to turn a corner, Browns still gonna Brown.

Gentlemen, this was the absolute best case scenario! Even Bisciotti thought we would end up with 2 4s' and 2 5th rounders... talk about providence. This is like arming the greatest warriors with multiple weapons! Go Ozzie! Go Eric!

Another thing that is insane, is everybody wants to emulate Ozzie Newsome each year, but somehow it always turns out that there is only one original Ozzie and he's in Baltimore! It beats me that depsite wanting to copy Ozzie's strategy, nobody else seems to come up with these compensatory picks like we do! That is uber cool!

This was the absolute best case scenario, I didn't think we'd actually get a 3rd.

We pretty much gave up Kruger for a 3rd and Elvis Dumervil. LOL.

Other GMs are just not on Ozzie's level. He gave the rest of the league a 2 yesr head start and he's still killing em.

So am I to understand that these compensation picks are given to teams that have a lot of turnover in the off season and not get much or anything back to compensate for that? I know baltimore lost a lot of players from post super bowl like boldin and reed and lewis and  pollard and kruger etc. so it would make sense. Either way it's great for the ravens because if they are smart they can fill a lot of needs in the draft.

It's the amount of unrestricted free agents you lose minus the ones you sign.  So we lost 4 signed none.  All our signings were released players.  That's why ozzie likes signing players who are released.

Im shocked. This is AWESOME. With 8 picks we can go into the Draft like a kid who walks into a candy store.

Not exactly sure where to put this but we are talking about comp picks here so figured I'd throw it in...assuming Ihedibo starts for detroit and plays all 16 games, would he be a possibility to yield a comp pick for next year (2015)? Or is his contract being only 2 years far too low to be brought into that equation?

He'll factor into the equation, for sure. Jones, Digs, Graham and Oher are comp pick additions. I believe Stewart was a UFA, so our signing of him might be our only subtraction so far. That means we're at +3, at least, right now. 4 is the max, so three is pretty good. Possibly Dickson could net us a late one depending on his situation if he signs elsewhere...

Xmas comes early for Ravens and Ravens fans alike!!! with multiple mid round picks, OZ can really move around the board and get some really vital weapons in a very deep draft. Ravens are definately hitting the draft rich on picks.

We could trade up and get a better WR, T, or TE.  Now that we don't have to worry about giving up the rest of our picks due to getting awesome Comp picks, we can possibly land a really good guy like Evans, Lewan (I say Lewan because we're still not going to be able to trade up for Matthews), or Ebron.  This could be unbelievable for our "rebuilding."

With that unexpected 3rd round pick I think it might be smart for the Ravens to trade back into the low to mid 20's and pick up an extra 2nd round pick looking at the draft value chart:

You could then fill your WR, S, and OT in the first 2 rounds and then have two 3rd round picks as a luxury man they can really fill up in those first 3 rounds for sure! Wow, they would have a mid and a late round 2nd and 3rd rounder that way... great position to be in.

Something like (trading back):

Mid 20's - S Calvin Pryor (could also go Evans, Lee, or even Ebron or Lewan if they fell, and then the order gets reshuffled)

Mid 2nd round - WR Allen Robinson

Late 2nd round - OT Cyrus Kuandjo

Mid 3rd round - TE CJ Fiederowicz

Comp 3rd round - LB Khairi Fortt

I mean woah and that is all possible due to that beautiful 3rd round comp and OH YEAH, two 4th rounders still coming... I mean come on, Ozzie is a master.

We really need a star from this draft.. Maybe another Webb type.. 3rd rounder or so that blows up

Yeah. As awesome as Upshaw and KO are, neither are stars of the 2012 draft same with Elam and Art Brown from 2013. I have a fever, the only prescription, is more star power

Before KO got hurt he was really excellent in my mind.

I wonder what affect, if any, that 3rd will have on whether we trade up / down in the 1st. Prior to this awesome news, I was pretty sure we were trading back, unless something really big dropped to us....now maybe we trade up a few spots, to the 12 - 14 range

Was going to type basically this exact thing and deleted it. Was going to add I hope Ozzie is more inclined to trade up for a talent he might really want now with the extra 3rd. We need at least 2 of the picks to be contributors right I away I feel. We haven't picked this high in a while and need to make it count so hopefully the next time we do pick this high it's cause we traded up.
