Ravens get 3rd round, 2 4ths and a 5th in comp picks

127 posts in this topic

Why - that kind of thing happens all the time, and we just go ahead and take the next highest rated player - that's how we ended up with Ed Reed in the first place.  If the player the FO had really wanted at the time was there, Ed would have been in another uniform.

So it's good to not get the player you want? Ok, I don't want Ebron, Odell Beckham Jr., Marqise Lee, Justin Gilbert, or Sammy Watkins.

4 picks in the top 100 as of now. We better get at least 2 starters from that...

No, I'm saying that whatever happens, the FO will take the highest rated player they have on their board and will never deviate or panic because the guy they wanted was taken.  For instance, in 2010, word was really strong that the FO wanted Dez Bryant badly, and the only reason they didn't trade up was because we only had 5 picks that year after trading two for Anquan Boldin.  Instead of pulling a risky move and mortgaging a future pick, they waited and unfortunately Jerry stole Dez from us - but instead of panicking and drafting the next best receiver, the Ravens were patient, got a call, and traded back.  So they lost out on Rob Gronkowski say, but they didn't feel he was worth the 25th pick.  They could have taken him because they needed a receiver, but they didn't, and instead we got the unfortunate Kindle, Dickson, and Pitta from that trade.  Dickson and Pitta were huge reasons we won the Superbowl, and we drafted Torrey the next year - if we had Dez, I don't think we would have drafted Torrey with both Dez and Q on the roster.  And it's all because the FO didn't panic, didn't reach for a player, and traded down to make sure that when we took a guy, it's because we felt he was worth that pick, and not because we needed him.

I wonder what affect, if any, that 3rd will have on whether we trade up / down in the 1st. Prior to this awesome news, I was pretty sure we were trading back, unless something really big dropped to us....now maybe we trade up a few spots, to the 12 - 14 range

Gotta love the way this organization does business. Exactly why off-seasons like last year's are blessings in disguise. Four picks in the prime rounds to reload the roster.

Yep and 6 in the top 138! Even with the trade and sign of Monroe...a bounty of riches in a deep draft.

in before people somehow complain about this too.  not going to understand how people don't see this as almost the ideal offseason so far.

And to think we didn't lose a single good player to get those extra picks.

So True. A situatioal average pass rusher, a UDFA linebackers with 1/2 of a decent year, à CB penalty machine off a scrap heap and a way over the hill Ed Reed. Crazy.

We lost all good role players and one hall of famer no longer playing that way. But no key foundation players. As a matter of fact the last time we lost anyone close to that was adaliius thomas. And he didn't pan out that way for the pats.

Yeah I know, we also were reported to really like Labe Johnson las year too

I can't believe the haul this year. I felt like asking for a set of picks like this would have gotten us laughed out of the room. I guess the fact that very few FAs got big checks last year made contracts like Kruger's and Ellerbe's stand out.

I thought we would get a third, but I thought that was me being optimistic.  This was the FO's master plan.  They trade later picks for veteran players they want(Monroe) and get them back(or even better ones) through comp. picks.  Having less picks kinda hurts, but you have to start questioning how many roster spots are open.  For a good team, our lower picks are going to the PS where other teams can pick them off anyway.  Also, the team seems to find a solid UDFA every year, so that's one less spot, honestly.  We don't need 11 picks because we don't have 11 spots open.

Awesome.  I know it's pretty pointless to write this since everyone else already did.  But I'm pumped!  Best case scenario!

Our 1st and 2nd round picks have to be stars. No pressure. I trust the front office, they did it with Jimmy Smith and Torrey Smith.

EDIT: the 7th rounder from Miami is from 2015 according to Wilson

Ravens get a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Dolphins in exchange for Bryant McKinnie. Team previously said it was 2014 selection

LOL....the team never said anything about the 7th rounder being in 2014.  The team's website quoted an article out of Miami that said it was a 2014 pick and then all the local media ran with it.

Yeah we all thought it was a 2015 7th rounder but then that all happened. There are some people still who think we have the pick this year so it really is more to clear the confusion than anything else.
