[News] Ravens Trade For Tampa Bay Offensive Lineman Jeremy Zuttah

310 posts in this topic

This is a HUGE upgrade. Not too mention his skill set best fits our Gary's scheme. Bring in one more get to compete with Wagner, and we can truly go best player available in the draft

Wow, scattered thought there. haha. I'm multi tasking right now. bring in another lineman, RT preferably to compete with Wagner, then bpa in the draft.

I'm still hoping we do something along the lines of 1. Pryor 2. Landry 3. Andre Williams finishing with trying to find some gems of lineman and a cb or 3.

I'm really hoping that Asa Jackson can get his act together. A combo of Jimmy, Webby, and Asa would be dirty

I really don't see any surprise in us going the bargain route at center. Zuttah is far better than last year's centers so that will definitely be an upgrade that will help to keep Flacco upright and slinging bullets. The running game will all depend upon whethere or not Rice is suspended by the league for his casino incident and if he can recover from last year's downslide. He seems to have gotten on the right track by losing weight. Pierce is an outside runner, so we still need to consider drafting a guy like Hyde or Hill (preferably 2nd round), or even West (much later in the draft). Now the line is looking like Osemele (LG), Zuttah ©, Yanda (RG), Monroe (LT), with Wagner next up to be the RT until the draft if not more moves are made before then.

Seems like a great move. Welcome to Baltimore and the Ravens, Jeremy! We have high expectations and I hope that's what you want out of a team and its fans.

Just wondering if this was on anyone else's radar, other than Ozzie's? I'm on this site a decent amount and had never heard a mention of the possibility of Jeremy being available. Obviously Ozzie & Team are living and breathing this 24hrs a day. To me, it just kind of shows that we really never know exactly what's going on, but at the same time we can be confident that the FO is looking at improving the team from every angle possible.

The Baltimore Ravens have signed C Jeremy Zuttah to a new long-term contract in order to reduce his salary cap figures for 2014 and 2015. He was originally scheduled to count $4.5 million against the cap in 2014 and $4.25 million against the cap in 2015. It looks like we are getting into position to make a run. Ozzie finds these guys that are willing to take that next step in their careers when coming to the Ravens.

Ozzie. Thanks for what you do. I still believe we need a real good backup quarterback just in case Flacco goes down. I did win a $500 pool last year stating Flacco would get injured. I was disappointed that the Ravens chose to play him the game after his injury. I think that cost us a playoff spot. Here comes the Draft baby. Go Ravens

The top 3 tackles will be gone at 17 for sure. Ebron,HaHa Dix and Mike Evans will not be there either.I say we trade back, get 2 second rounders grab That RT from Alabama Cyrus and TE Jenkins( 6'5 Beast) from wash whos only gonna be there because of character concerns. Look at his highlights.Being that Elam is relatively new I say FS is the position for a veteran this year maybe Jim Lenard someone like that right price type of guy

How can the 22nd ranked center be a "big upgrade"? He is a sixth year pro with less than 2 years experience starting at center. I would love to see the rankings for Zuttah and Gradkowski over the final 6 to 8 games.

Haha, the guy has already changed his twitter account's background image to the Raven logo :D

If he's this quick on the field too, we can't lose on this trade :)

Ozzie must have seen something he liked in this guy, even for only playing a few games at center. I completely trust his judgement on this one

You can choose from two options:

1.) Study the stats - both his and Gradkowski's;

2.) Read through the comments of this article - it's been explained multiple times how a #22 guy is an upgrade to a #35 (out of 35...) guy...

Hey, an upgrade is an upgrade. As long as its not Gino, right? We solved the center position by giving up practically nothing. A again Ozzie. Keep it going.

Exactly! People complained about Gino, and as soon as Ozzie trades for someone better than Gino, they're still complaining. This give was ranked 22nd; what was gino's rank?

Personally I would have preferred we used next years pick to move up in this draft and get someone great instead of using it to get someone marginally better than what we have now. Plus Ryan Jensen is a center possibility and he sat all last year so we don't even know what we wasted a pick on with him. In Oz we trust, but some moves this year have been confusing at best so it will be interesting to see just how wrong I am this year. That is why I post and question him and he actually is the best GM in the league. I was really convinced we were going to get at least one really good safety, center, running back or offensive lineman in free agency this year so I guess that explains my frustration but how can you argue with the best in the business. Go Oz and prove me wrong AGAIN.

saw him live multiple times. has a good base and anchors well. he will be a upgrade at C. now we need Zack martin and we can have a true starting o-line that will dominate and make the ravens one of the best running teams in the league.

also it has been reported that he has restructured his contract so ozzie did not trade and restructure a contract if he didn't think he would be the starter for the next couple years.

1 thing a lot of the fans might not have thought about is I am pretty sure that Oz and our front offices / scouting department had a grade on Zuttah a few years back when he was comming out of Rutgers and now our front offices have a few years of NFL game film on the guy as well. Oz traded a draft pick for him anyone who knows Ravens football knows Oz does not give up draft picks he hoards them. So I feel very good about this move.

Well....if he's any good, then great. However, we sure are spending a lot of money. I just hope we have enough to really draft some good players, as well as enough left next year so that we aren't suddenly cash-strapped again, right against the cap. I don't care what anyone says, we need to re-sign Ngata next season, just the same as we did with Suggs this year. We've lost a lot of veteran defensive guys over the last couple years, we do not need to lose Haloti.

Again Ozzie is the man putting the type of quality together for another super bowl run. In Ozzie we always trust.

Im liking our moves we dont have to reach if we miss out on a player in the draft we have mostly the same team tht fought hard every game we can focus on a playmaking safety and a maybe a great pass catcher at pick 17 who knows we may draft another h.o.f er ala suggs,ed reed, haloti at tht spot

This is so interesting. i wonder what the Ravens will do with the 17th pick. Draft by need or best player available? It's either OL or safety I believe and with either pick OL or S we will be very very solid in those 2 positions.

Well, we'll see... We thought Dumervil would be a great addition for us - and he went on being just that. We also thought Huff would be a quality successor of Ed, and he went on being a huge bust...

Let's hope this guy ends up in the Boldin/Jacoby/Monroe/Dumervil column, not in the Huff/Evans one.

Zuttah is versatile having played both guard positions and centre for the Buccs whilst at college he played at both tackle positions. I was interested to read one of the reasons he switched to right tackle was to better utilize his athleticism when Rutgers switched to a zone blocking scheme ... there are many scenarios. 1) play left guard kicking Osemele to Right tackle 2) start as centre 3) start at right tackle.

Im sorry guys but I just dont put a lot of faith in that PFF ranking. I think how you play with your team mates and how your system works has a lot to do with how well your gonna play.
