And he had less than 100 yards combined in his last 3 games... running behind the same center.

Not a good example.

Rainey started splitting carries. That could be and is the reason why.

Well... let's see the numbers. Week#15, the Bucs had 12 rushing attempts, of which Rainey had 11 - for 27 yards. Week#16 Rainey had 20 out of 23 carries - for 37 yards. Finally, Week#17 the Bucs had 18 carries, 11 by Rainey, for 35 yards.

Combined, the last 3 weeks the Bucs had 50 rushing snaps, of which Rainey had 42 - that's 84% of the rushing attempts. He made 98 yards, that's an average of 2.31 YPC.

So, sorry, but what you're saying is simply not true. Rainey's production didn't go down because he started to split carries. He didn't have less carries than before - and his average clearly reveals that he simply wasn't very effective during that span - in fact, much less effective than Rice or Pierce.

Nice try...

I love how as soon as we sign a guy he instantly becomes the best thing since sliced bread. What is telling your guys hes going to be an even average center?

@fusuymada.......you must don't understand the salary cap at all if you did you would know that you can't have great players at every position signing those free agents you were taking about is way out of our league as far as our salary cap situation goes. Jeremy Zuttah is a solid young player at a salary cap friendly price. Who knowers he may come on our team and become a lot better player just like most free agents that come to Baltimore do.

And that should prevent us from being happy when we seem to make a good deal?

No team is ever without holes to fill. That's one of the blessings of the cap system. So, we should never be happy?

What is telling you he won't?

And... i don't think anyone here thinks that he will surely be great - we just see hope that he will.

PFF Ranked him the 24th center. ESPN.com says this guy has only played 9 games at center. Can any find anything that says different? As a center replacement this move makes 0 sense. From a pure depth perspective this move kinda makes sense.

I dont like or dislike Gradkowski, but give the guy more than 1 year to prove himself. If it were up to people like you guys, Jimmy Smith would have been cut years ago and we would have never seen how well he could really play. IE Last Season. Look at the fact that it was his first year playing and the whole left side of the line was jacked up for half the season. Heck even Yanda played crappy and for sure should have never made the probowl last season. The sky isnt falling, give players time to develop.

because 2 people already mentioned it before you and you said "come on man" as if we didn't just get a huge upgrade over geno, who just so happened to be the 35th ranked center

your comment makes zero sense. the same pff list youre referencing ranked Gradkowski dead last at 35. How does a guy a full 11 to 13 ranks better than what we have not make sense as a replacement?

no time for that, Center's too important a position. If you have a struggling cornerback or receiver, sure give em time to grow. There's 5 of those guys on the field, you can game plan around him.

You only get one center. If your o line is getting blown up at the shortest, most direct path of attack every down, you will not be successful, period.

Sending a draft pick and picking up a 4.25 mil cap hit for a below average center.

Zuttah's getting a brand new deal, we're not picking up his old contract from Tampa Bay.

Depth is good. It promotes competition. The days of us just handing people jobs on the O-line should be over, considering how many question marks we have.

Maybe you were fine with Jensen as our LG last season, but I wasn't. Depth makes that less likely this offseason.

Plus, keep in mind, I believe Birk was about the 16th best center in the league when he retired from our team. Not exactly the cream of the crop either, yet people around here would tell you differently.

It makes sense cause the guy only played 9 games at center. Why give up a pick for a guy when you could sign a true center in free agency like De La Puente who is young and would have cost about the same.

The Ravens acquired the interior offensive lineman in exchange for a 2015 draft pick.

He can play more than one position and K.O. may not be ready to play.

"Zuttah will also challenge incumbent center Gino Gradkowski for a starting role."

LOL - who are wi trying to kid here? Ozzie will never trade away draft picks for mere "challenge". The sheer fact of the trade means he's meant to start.

The reason the article says that he will challenge Gino for the starting role.....and the reason -every- new Raven, whether it is a draft pick, trade or FA pickup....will have an article saying the same thing.......is because ***nobody*** on this team is just handed a starting job. You *earn* it here.

Yes, it's Zuttah's job to lose, but if he walked in here and played like a total bum in the preseason, guess what? He would *not* be the starter.   *That*  is why you will see this every single time.

Ah because Ozzie feel like Jeremy Zuttah is a better player than De La Puente and so does 31 other teams because he still doesn't have a job.

Look at it this way. Give me reasons why you personally would trade for Zuttah instead of signing De La Puente.

1. Versatility

2. Likely the better fit of the line scheme we will be using

3. I have no idea what De La Puente's price is, nor does anybody else. It could be high enough that it simply doesn't interest us.

I dont really buy into some of the rankings some rankings are very decieving. What Jeremy Zuttah ranking says to me is there are only 32 teams in the NFL. So to be ranked 22/35 is not bad. since the NFL is the top pro-league that means that Jeremy Zuttah is the 22nd best at his position in the world out of pro athletes. Thats pretty darn good.

Zuttah is a good pick up an he will play better with us. The bucs were a mess last yr an there whole team played an looked bad for the most part. Now we can pick the best players n each round instead of drafting for a need.

5th rounder, and we have no idea what position he will play, although LG or Center seem like the only logical two options it could be.
