[News] Ravens Trade For Tampa Bay Offensive Lineman Jeremy Zuttah

310 posts in this topic

He hasn't allowed a sack in the past 2 seasons and he is still only the 22nd best center in the NFL... Centers are better than I thought they were.

Obviously there's a lot of factors that go into that. Run blocking and the amount of pressure he allows on the QB would clearly be major factors.

He could allow zero sacks the whole season, but if he's allowing free rushers on every five dropbacks, he's just not very good.

Flawed logic. Was Zuttah the only guy that blocking ahead of them? If not, then why are you giving him 100% credit for it? Seems a bit short-sighted to me.

Obviously, I don't really care about how great a blocker he was in college, because Gino was equally as effective in college. Once you become a veteran in this league, nobody should care one bit about what you did or didn't do in college. In general, the game films of college prospects are all the same.

At the end of the day, if you OBJECTIVELY look and see what is going on, you would be left with a certain amount of questions... such as...

1. He has started 9 out of 44 games at center.. is that a good or a bad thing? During your claims that he single-handedly led Doug Martin to a big season, he played guard mostly. Do you know for certain which position he will be playing on this team? I don't... and neither do you.

2. Perhaps the biggest question... why was he traded to begin with? I mean we know the Bucs acquired Dietrich-Smith in FA, but why acquire him if they already have somebody they clearly liked in Zuttah? It couldn't have been the money, because Zuttah just signed a new deal last season, and for a guy who mostly played guard, his salary was pretty affordable.

These are the things that YOU don't know, because nobody knows these things. You may THINK you know, but you don't.

Check your facts! He has played more then nine games at Center. Your logic about Gino playing just as good in college is wrong. Gino's level of talent he was playing against was Ngata compared to Zuttah. And where do I give 100% credit to Zuttah in any of my statements? Also guess you know more then College scouts, since College play doesn't matter! LMBO

1. Considering Zuttah played for the Big East in college, I'd rather play against Delaware competition.

2. College scouts matter when people are in college. Based on my ability to read, I now know that Zuttah is NOT, in fact, in college, nor has he been since 2008. Thus, why on Earth would anybody care about what he did in college, when he's played in the NFL for five seasons? Do you really believe any NFL scout or coach cares one bit about what he did in college? They traded for him because of what he did while in Tampa and what they saw based on his NFL game film. They could care less if he blocked for Ray Rice in college.

Do you think the Ravens gave Joe Flacco $52m guaranteed because he put up great offensive numbers at Delaware?

I like Zuttah's versatility in that he has played both guard positions and centre for Tampa whilst at Rutgers played both tackle positions. He could line up at left guard (Osemele moving to right tackle) centre or possibly to right tackle, the reason he moved to right tackle in college was because they switched to a zone-blocking system and needed his athleticism there.

Starting line up atm would be Monroe Osemele Zuttah Yanda Wagner with Gino Shipley and Jensen covering the centre positions. We could do with drafting a tackle to start/rotate with Wagner on the right and able to cover the left, if Reid is released I would take a second tackle.

I like this pickup. Find a RT, but take your time and make the rest of the piss-poor linemen grind it out to stay on the backup squad.

What do you usually get for your fifth round pick, probably something like:

33% chance of a pre-season cut

33% chance of a career special-teamer

33% chance of a starter

1% chance of an all-pro

Getting a seasoned vet who can play multiple positions on the OL entering the prime of his career is a bargain, nice one Ozzie!

Only 5% of fifth round or later picks will re-sign with the team that drafted them let alone start, thats why Ozzie is flipping them for immediate contributors.

Is Zuttah suited to the finese zone, ballet run blocking scheme that both Castillo dreams about and Kubiak used in Texas?
