[News] Ravens Trade For Tampa Bay Offensive Lineman Jeremy Zuttah

310 posts in this topic

Obviously this is great news. Keep in mind though... what Ozzie seems to be doing is trying to acquire some versatile offensive lineman. By doing so, he's going to allow for great competition in the preseason and training camp. Zuttah can play multiple positions, and given that we only appear to have two players set on our offensive line (Monroe and Yanda), this will allow competition for all other positions.

He is here to play Center, and is an upgrade over the worst center in the league (PFF) Adding him in the middle of Kelechi and Yanda will be a great way to improve the interior line and leaves us with just one whole at RT

ranked 22nd among 35 qualifying centers pff 2013 btw

Thats correct. But you fans asked for someone better than Gino, and he was.

I'm sure until 20 minutes ago, nobody had ever heard of this guy, or even cared one bit about what he had accomplished as a Buccaneer.

Remember, it was Matt Birk (who according to many fans on here was the second coming of Jesus Christ as a center) was in the mid-teens in PFF rankings for his final two seasons as a Raven. Not exactly the dominant player that so many people falsely perceive.

We don't need the best center, we just need a better one. And it appears we may have one right now.

a starting center, wonderful. now if we can convince someone that shipley or gino are worth a pick or two things would be perfect. anyway, looks like we're looking for a guard somewhere in the draft now. Gotta assume Kelechi's the de facto RT unless something really crazy happens and somebody falls hard in the draft.

This should help R.R. get back to his old form and give Flacco time/protection to hit the Smiths and all his other targets with the football

Great pick up by Wizard of Oz . I'm sure Ray Rice said go for it since they together at Rutgers. Nothing like a multi offensive lineman. Draft a stud right tackle and I think this line will be good going forward with great depth.

Couldn't be said any better than that. Lets see what this guy can do. He's better than Gino and that's all that matters really. We can't have our starting center getting pushed around like a little child.

"Zuttah will also challenge incumbent center Gino Gradkowski for a starting role."

LOL - who are wi trying to kid here? Ozzie will never trade away draft picks for mere "challenge". The sheer fact of the trade means he's meant to start.

I'm hypeeee! Now we can really go bpa in the draft. But give me HaHa any day.

I like HaHa or Ebron but in all truth I am going to like any draft pick the Ravens make.

the draft pick is most likely conditional, and im pretty sure we had number 35, so im okay with this

I think it makes training camp and the preseason very interesting. We know we've got KO and Wagner who can compete for the RT job right now, and we've got at least two guys capable of playing LG (KO and Zuttah).

Its entirely possible that the Ravens take an offensive lineman in the first 3 rounds, and just basically put 4-5 guys out there to compete for various positions.

If nothing else, by selecting even just one offensive lineman in the draft, we now appear to have some pretty solid depth.

It would also seem to perhaps maybe remove an offensive lineman from our 1st round pick status, but that might not be likely just yet.

The question is... at what position?

Did this guy perhaps play alongside Rice in college?

Yep, he did.

Yep, Gradkowski came at #35...

This allows us to look for an extra playmaker in the draft. I'd be surprised if we didn't look for a FS in round 1, depending on how the RT's of the draft shake out.

I love how Oz and Co. work this just allows best player available in the draft. Every hole they fill lets the front office dictate how they draft.

I'm not sure what pick the Ravens gave up for him, but I doubt it's anything high.

One source says it's a "2015 late-round", another says it's a 2015 6th round.

we were never going to take a lineman in the first round, the only ones worth it werent going to be there at 17.

We definitely are taking one at some point in the draft though, and whoever it is we take will decide where Kelechi plays. I'm betting on us having an easier time finding a serviceable guard than a tackle, which is why im assuming KO ends up on the right side. Tackles play on islands, if you have to make a choice, I funnel the most experience to the tackle position first.

It's an upgrade from where Gino was plus the versatility to play guard as well is intriguing. 22nd out of 35th isn't great but Tampa as a whole the line was bet up so I'm sure that didnt help. Heard that its probably a 2015 6th round pick is speculation.
