174 posts in this topic

Last year he was a starter free safety (according to SBnation) but he was replaced by McLeod after suffering a hamstring injury in the 3rd preseason: game

It appears he has a history of injury.... again, according to this article..... Hummmmm

GO RAVENS!

He is filling holes with people that can compete for the job, so worse case we can take Best Available Player, but we also know if Ha Ha is there we will be drafting him, if you dont believe this again you are Foolish

2012 - Reed, Pollard, Considine, Thompson, Ihedigbo were safeties on the 53 man roster (Brown was cut then finished the season in December on the roster)

2013 - Huff, Elam, Ihedigbo, Levine, Trawick were safeties on the 53 man roster (Brown got added when they cut Huff)

I'd say we need the petter player to be our starting SS. If it's Elam, it's him - if it isn't, why should he start over the better player?

(though, I'd think Elam is the better playr, so he'll get to start...)

I think some fans are disappointed or confused because they may think Stewart is meant to be our starting FS - but, in reality, who knows? Maybe he's only depth behind Elam and our starting FS for the 2014 season isn't yet on our roster.

Good depth signing at S. He started multiple games for the Rams last season at SS. Pro Football Focus graded him at -1.0 for 583 snaps. He won't have cost much and likely won't impact comp picks

Omar Brown isnt our answer, ill say this again, the answer for FS is not on our current roster, and you would be foolish to think it is

From what i get of this signing is. if we dont get Dix or Pryor in the draft, elam will probably start at FS and Dorian will start at SS

I dont think Elam is our fix at FS he doesnt have that much range in center field, and found him self getting burnt alot last year, although i get it was his rookie year last year. I think SS is his natural position as it has stated, we are looking for a FS with range, and playmaking ability, not someone that plays better in the box more then in center field

Depth/Special teams... Not sure this guy will see much playing time.

I' never heard of Corey Graham before we signed him either....

boys boys boys, don't have a pink pantie meltdown. We will have 90 players on our roster at the beginning of preseason. The best 53 will be on the team, several will be on the practice squad and the rest....see ya, wouldn't wanta be ya. If this guy is good enough he will win a spot...GREAT. if not we haven't lost anything. Steve Spagnuolo has seen this guy up close and personal and he thinks Stewart is worth a shot. I dare say anyone of you knows Stewart as well as Spagnuolo so lets just wait and see.

Love the quote especially  the last sentence. could not agree more.

ok, before i waste anymore time on this, remind me again why it even matters? He's a special teams player, most of those are cast offs to begin with. And as far as depth goes, Jeromy Miles is next in line behind Elam even without signing this dude. Brown's not even close to playing time, so what exactly is your point?

I think it's way, way too early for such speculation. The "garbage time", Ozzie's favourite hunting season is still nowhere near - the time when a lot of good veterans get cut for cap considerations... Who knows if a good FS falls our way...

My point has always been the same he was just added for comp and if he is better than the rest than so be it.  These guys are not on long-term deals (only Elam) they all can be cut if better guys are brought in.

I cant be the only one that wouldn't mind having Ed Reed back if we can't find someone else... right? I mean yeah he is 35 and can't tackle but he had 3 or 4 interceptions last year with the Jets in 7 games. He can still play center field just about as good as anyone. Last year we missed someone who causes the big turnovers. Not the first option, but I definitely wouldn't mind Ed back if we absolutely need a Free safety because we can't find one.

I'd rather have somebody who can tackle rather than a player who gets 3-4 INTs a season. Its much more important for a FS to be able to play coverage and tackle receivers than it is for him to play CF and pray people throw deep on him.

I see no positive benefit to the Baltimore Ravens as a franchise to have Ed Reed as a player member of the current team. The only reason fans want him is because they are fans and want to wear his jersey... no fan realistically thinks hes a starting caliber FS in the NFL any longer.
