[News] Ravens Agree To Deal With Safety Darian Stewart

174 posts in this topic

You never can predict injuries in training camp.  Brynden Trawick could still be on the practice squad next year and even though I like what I heard about Omar Brown he has not cracked the 53 man roster yet.

Omar Brown has 3 tackles and a sack in regular season play, he has definitely been on the 53 for the past two years.

Newsome likes to have a body slotted for each starting spot so he can pretend to go BPA. This just means we're going after Haha Clinton-Dix come May.

It never hurts to have depth in positions IMO, so welcome. I just hope Omar Brown gets some actual playing time also, considering he was inactive for most of last year's games.

Obviously we didnt have a starting FS on our roster before, and obviously he is just here to compete and add depth hints the 1 year deal, its low risk and potential high reward if he shows he has the skills to start. Obviously we will probably be drafting our future starting safety and i dont see this guy being long term, obviously things change from now to september so we shawl see

I should have said the opening 53 man roster my bad. They move him up when players get injured.  He is regular a practice squad player and I thought other teams would try to sign him after having good preseasons.

Here we go again!!!!!! 6 Safety's and 4 CB'S!!! STUPID!!! Classic HarBoo, doing favors for friends!! Spangs wanted this guy!! He isn't a free Saftey, and has no range in coverage!!

noooo, he's been there the whole time. He's just usually inactive on game day because we dont need 30 safeties suiting up every week. We havent had any safety injuries recently.

I think this is a depth signing.  I assume you are referring to Chris Clemons, who is a strong safety.  We are looking for a free safety, so a guy like Thomas Decoud would be a better fit.

Chris Clemons actually has the versatility to play both (much like Elam) and is actually really solid in deep coverage due to his quickness and speed.

Ihope Omar Brown tears it up in the Pre Season, so we can watch HarBoo put him back on the practice squad! 90% Of you will make excuses for HarBoo because you can't handle the truth!!!!!!!!

Omar Brown isnt our answer, ill say this again, the answer for FS is not on our current roster, and you would be foolish to think it is.

No, he's definitely a practice squad player who gets moved up. He was on the practice squad for a while during his rookie season and moved up to the active roster from the practice squad last year once Michael Huff was cut.

Good depth signing at S.  He started multiple games for the Rams last season at SS.  Pro Football Focus graded him at -1.0 for 583 snaps.  He won't have cost much and likely won't impact comp picks.

It seems like he wasn't:

From this it seems that he wasn't on our original 53-man roster last season. It says "The Ravens opted to keep Trawick and Levine over Omar Brown, who finished last season on the active roster."

I think some fans are disappointed or confused because they may think Stewart is meant to be our starting FS - but, in reality, who knows? Maybe he's only depth behind Elam and our starting FS for the 2014 season isn't yet on our roster.

We NEED Elam to be our starting SS. Whatever it takes.

I'd say we need the petter player to be our starting SS. If it's Elam, it's him - if it isn't, why should he start over the better player?

(though, I'd think Elam is the better playr, so he'll get to start...)

2012 - Reed, Pollard, Considine, Thompson, Ihedigbo were safeties on the 53 man roster (Brown was cut  then finished the season in December on the roster)

2013 - Huff, Elam, Ihedigbo, Levine, Trawick were safeties on the 53 man roster (Brown got added when they cut Huff)
